I don't understand how anybody using a picking method of a typically effeminate nature (unrelated to the study of form) can end up after a hundred games anywhere else but on 0.500 plus or minus a point or two. 0.498-0.502 say.

As such a score has no chance of winning I cannot understand why any random picking methods are employed because they are destructive of the spirit of the game and of competitive sport itself. It is trolling. All that it has going for it is that it either takes the piss out of competitive sport (all these men are silly) or is trying to cosy up to the machismo world football so obviously embraces. A sort of testosterone fascination which groupies exhibit but without risking an actual shagging.

Ending up after a season of nearly 300 games at anything above or below 0.500 suggests that the random picking method, however cute it is made to sound, is not being employed but is falsely claimed to be in order to cover up a woeful attempt to study form or a species of false modesty which is itself inconsistent with the mores of a sporting temperment with which we men are unfortunately saddled with.

It almost goes without saying that it traduces the scientifically established principles of evolution and thus demonstrates that anybody who employs such girlish procedures and also supports the dissemination of evolution theory has no interest in the science of that theory and therefore, following simple logic, can only possibly have a personal agenda of some sort or other (see evolution threads for suggestions regarding those) which they want everybody to share, one imagines for self-validation purposes, or for some reason which has so far escaped my notice.

Good eh ed? Get past that without any assertions.

Some people play for funsies, without setting store in the outcome. It is fun to watch the serious ones sweat every weekend.

@edgarblythe,
The football players I assume you mean ed?

It can't be that much fun after two or three efforts at it surely?

I wouldn't believe much of what is said here regarding picking strategy. It is likely true that some of us do follow the NFL more closely then others, though.
WEEK #7-
We have an unprecedented 7-way tie for 1st going into tonight's NY Giants @ Dallas Cowboys game.
At 9-4 and choosing Dallas are CoastalRat (predicting a final score of 32-27), Cowdoc (23-21), Liontamerx (27-21) and JPB (27-24). Also at 9-4 but choosing New York are McGentrix (20-7), Region (27-20) and Mysteryman (28-14). I believe only LiontamerX and JPB have won a week this year.
As group we have this game as a tossup; 12 for the Cowboys vs 11 for the Giants.
I will have to go back and find the tie-breaker rules. They may get really tested this week.

(that was also the season I had a perfect week Laughing - distressing to some)

besides all that, we know that you think only the actual players should be congratulated on the results of a game

@realjohnboy,
Here's hoping the Cowboys make this easy on you by winning 32-27.

I sure do hate rooting for the Cowboys though. Mad

@realjohnboy,
Wow -- look at all those high scores!

I guess none of us think much of the defense on these teams.

Here are the rules regarding what happens if 2 or more players end a week with identical Win-Loss records. I take responsibility for them but JPB's fingerprints are also on them.
1) The player closest to the winning team's score.
2) The player closest to the losing team's score.
3) The player closest to the home team's score.
4) The player closest to the visiting team's score.
5) The player closest to the total points scored by the 2 teams.
6) The player who is ranked lowest in the standings here.

That's right. " You should never let other people get your kicks for." It's an iconic American line.

The statement is indisputable. Try tossing a coin, the easiest way of picking, 100 times.

I had a good laugh last night. I was rooting for the Pats and after the "phew" of the field goal miss I discovered I had picked the Chargers.

Wouldn't numbers three and four already be covered by one and two? Just asking......

@CowDoc,
Not necessarily...

If the winning score was 28 and George picked 34 while Betty picked 22 they'd both be off by 6. Say they'd both pick 15 as the losing score. If George had the home team he would win.

@JPB,
Got it - so the differential is winner>loser>home team>visitor, until the tie is broken. Makes sense, except I still think the "visitor" is irrelevant, because they would have had to be tied on that one already, in order to get that far down the list. Or so it seems....I never got around to taking a statistics course.
