@CowDoc,
I think JPB is right. By design #1 & #2 and #3 & #4 are apples and oranges, measuring- by design- two entirely different things. In the early years, when we had fewer players, we had a shorter list of tiebreakers. I recall suggesting to Jaye in the year she ran it that we had come very close at times to not getting a clear winner. We expanded it to pretty much where we are now. We have not, though, seen the system actually tested.
Perhaps tonight.

Brett Farve, the QB of the Minnesota Vikings, after a long career with the Packers and then briefly in NY, may have finally come to the end of the line. He suffered an injury that could require surgery. This comes just a couple of weeks after the 41 year old grandfather was accused of sending lurid photos of himself to one of massage therapists the NY team had hired when he was there.

@realjohnboy,
Surely a QB can play with a hard on.

I don't know Favre like followers have, have no connection to his person, not that any of us can from afar. It all seems a sad mess, stupid ending, as I suppose it is an ending.

@ossobuco,
I think you are right on all counts, Osso. I wrote back in 2007/8 or so that he could/should retire. He couldn't possibly need the money. He could return to his native state of Mississippi (?) and perhaps run for some political office, which he would probably have won. I don't know his political views but, post Katrina, he could have helped that state. But we are not into politics here.
I guess there is something in an athlete's genes that causes them to want to hang on for one more round, even if they have already enjoyed immense success.
As kids, many of us rode on merry-go-rounds. Astride painted wooden horses with names we had secretly given them. And once each time around we would stretch out as far as we could reach to try to grab a brass ring. More often then not we would fail, but we would ride around again.
At some point, at some age, we would move on.
I am sure that Spendius (from England), Lmur (Ireland), EhBeth (Canada) and Fbaezer (Mexico) can relate stories of athletes in their countries that never figured out when it was time to move on.

@realjohnboy,
The classic is in boxing. Ali boxing long after he had no business in the ring. Foreman boxing with that huge belly that curiously nobody ever pummeled -

@realjohnboy,
One that seems a genuinely nice guy to me is Brees, but of course I know nothing.

Eli Manning (NYG) tosses an early interception. Tony Romo (Dallas) responds with a short TD pass. Cowboys 7-0 only 2 minutes in.

Half Time with the Giants up 24-20. Eli (NYG) has tossed for 3 TD's but has thrown 2 Interceptions. 167 yards for him.
Tony (Dal) has only produced 39 yards with 1 TD.
This is a must win for the Cowboys.
I, alas, am being put to bed for the night.
Hopefully I will wake up in the morning.

Wow -- look at all those high scores!

I guess none of us think much of the defense on these teams.

It's only a mistake to carry on playing if it is for the wrong reason. It isn't a mistake if the reason is simply a love of the sport and being content to play it at lower levels. There are some like that. They shouldn't be conflated with those who continue for the wrong reasons.

I suppose Mr Favre was considered good enough to keep his place in the team. That's the best reason of all. That's why I'm here defending my title when I was tempted to retire undefeated.

@Region Philbis,
Jerry Jones reminds me of a used-car salesman - A BAD ONE... whose car just had the tranny fall out. Or better yet, that Monty Python movie's routine, "it's only a flesh wound!

WEEK #7 RESULTS
I only had to use the 1st tiebreaker to be able to declare that Mysteryman is this week's winner. He finished 10-4 and had guessed that the winning team would score 28 points last night. Region and McGentrix also finished 10-4 but had predicted a smaller number of points. Well done, MM.
CoastalRat, Cowdoc, LiontamerX, Edgar, AndyClubber, JPB, Osso and Johnboy ended at 9-5. Alex, Panzade, Rhys, Ms Cowdoc, Spendius and George came in at 8-6. Jespah and Ragman broke even at 7-7. EhBeth struggled at 6-8 while Lmur, Tico and Fbaezer really struggled at 5-9.
As a group we finished with a winning record of .575 which is not as good as Week #6 but better than any of the other weeks.
Losses by New Orleans and Denver hurt us.
The best ESPN guy went 10-4 while the worst was 6-8.

STANDINGS AFTER WEEK #7
1) JPB (64-40 .615) gets sole possession of 1st after being in a tie
2) LiontamerX (63-41 .606) climbs from 3rd and is just one game back
3) Ragman (62-42 .596) slips from a share of 1st but is only two games behind
3) Spendius stays in 3rd
5) Ms Cowdoc (61-43 .587) remains in 5th
6) AndyClubber (.567) climbs from 8th
7) McGentrix (.573) jumps from 10th
8) Pansade (.558) holds onto a share of 8th
8) Tico slumps from 5th
8) EhBeth slips one spot
11) Jespah (.538) sticks to 11th
11) Edgar slips from 12th
13) CoastalRat (.529) goes nowhere
13) Cowdoc doesn't either
15) Region (.519) climbs 2 spots
16) George (.511) gives up one notch
17) Rhys (.510) drops from 15th
17) Osso stays in 17th
17) Johnboy does the same
20) Mysteryman (.500) didn't get any movement despite winning the week
21) Lmur (.452) drops from 20th
22) Alex (.437) gets out the cellar where he has been living all season
23) Fbaezer (.423) takes over last place.

The ESPN's best expert would be in 1st (.634) while the worst (.488) would be in 21st.

Back in a minute with the schedule for Week #8. There are only 13 games this week (probably due to competition for eyeballs from the baseball World Series).
Some tough choices, though; several key injuries.
The 1st games are on Sunday.
