@mark noble,
That's a bit harsh Mark and you can't speak for everyone and why they are not here. Hell is a bit harsh. I mean I was bored but it wasn't hell.

@Butrflynet,
By academic style, i mean style not content. The content of many a2k discussion are top notch. By academic style I mean debate comes often in structured essay style posts, or by deconstruction of another's post line by line. Logical fallacies are called out. Axiomatic bias is normally expressed in the OP so that the thread can get a feel from whence a poster is coming. Also as far as general style goes, academic style posts often do not use first or second person pronouns. They use more passive voice than normal. Citations are done in MLA, APA, or Turabian. One liners and comic quips are frowned upon. There is less tolerance in general with thread hijacking. The content remains much the same aside from the comedy one liners, its a presentation difference that allows for a more structured presentation of complex ideas.

Take a step back for a moment. You were a moderator at the philosophy forum, and a good one as I recall.

First off, Mark, I know you're a good guy, so please don't think I'm being fresh with you.
mark noble wrote:
Why do you think virtually ALL the persons you once moderated with and over have chosen not to post here?

Because they didn't like this forum. I wasn't aware the Kennethamy incident had anything to do with it.

Oh, and it's definitely not all, just some. Many are still here.

Have you considered why you are not on that list?

What list?

@GoshisDead,
That's exactly the type of description of "academic" I was attempting to better understand.

Thanks!

@GoshisDead,
For those like me who had to look up what the acronyms mean:

@Butrflynet,
But that's very rarely used on the forum, if ever, just so you know. In fact, I've only come across a handful of citations from my experience at the forum. Most of the content is informal. But the majority of what he said does express the style, yes.

@Caroline,
Yes, it is quite an extensive list, but unfortunately I am not on it Sad

And the worst part is I never even considered why!

@Zetherin,
Maybe it's like Joe McCarthy's list. Might be better off not knowing.

You mean the list of Communists? Well, I'm a bit relieved I'm not on the list now!

Right. Wink

You know, it just occurred to me. Possibly the remaining Philosophy Forum folk here are the nicest ones of the original the bunch? I have a hunch I might be right on this.

How is the "other" forum faring?

Is it OK to ask? Please disregard my question if it isn't.

Not that I'm expecting an answer from you, in particular, Caroline.

@msolga,
i get regular e-mails, from vid about the new forum, it looks pretty and he claims it should be up soon. He's a smart guy and if he markets it right he might even be able to tread financial water while making a nice community.

@msolga,
Have no idea how the other forum is faring, don't care but not to well I expect seems they haven't got enough members. You could be on to something, I get on with the remaining posters, and thanks for the compliment, some are laying low but they're nice too like Pythagorean for instance.

@GoshisDead,
Oh, I guess that's the list mark's talking about - Vide's newsletter.

I don't have to stop to consider why I'm not on that list, I already know! That man wasn't fond of me at all!
