He also missed the simple point that slavery was not actually abolished in the UNION until the ratification of the thirteenth amendment in 1865 ,after the Civil War had ended. So his argument about EMancipation and whatever other cokamamee crap he spouts, falls flat on its face.

Maybe we should start a thread called "The Ocean is About Seawater" and see what objections he raises.

@farmerman,
If the only thing you get from that is slavery then you are thicker than two short planks nailed abeam . You can read ? You did read your post ? You cant see power and money ?

What caused slavery ? Nastiness or money ? What ended it ? Niceness or a power struggle ?

To say the Civil War was about freeing the slaves is the most simplistic ridiculous claim you could make .....was WWII about freeing the Jews ?

????Have you changed sides ? If the war was all about ending slavery, why didn't it end with the war ? Perhaps you can cite a reference to where I said that argument that got you so riled up ? I would hate to think you are having your bad dreams again .

@farmerman,
Somebody tell Gomer the Turd the Union Army freed slaves . Many slaves just packed up and left, being free by default .

Why are you so stupid as to think the only history that exists is the one promoted by politicians ?

@Ionus,
Somebody tell ANUS that there were a few slave states in the UNION even during the Civil War. The institution was finally abandoned by a (wait for it)............................A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

The rebel (battle)flag is a symbol of the Confederacy, and therefore a symbol of the defense of the institution of slavery.

The re-enactors, or "living historians" are a mixed bag.

The folks who defend that flag and claim that it's about "heritage not hate" are living in denial.

Dear Gomer the Turd.....

I expect your next stupid utterance to be about the sky being blue....exactly how do you propose that any of this proves the war was fought to free the slaves ?

Really ? So the USA flag is a symbol of the attack against slavery.....will you be fighting to free Tibet ? North Korea ? What justification do you have for that flag, where even if your story is true, it represents a one hit wonder ? You have failed it and should not fly it .

I can understand that there must be a unique and powerful feeling of shame knowing that their ancestors fought and died to preserve such an indefensible evil, but enough is enough.
