@edgarblythe,
funny, edgar. Well, I guess a word a day keeps the wiki away. Razz

One of my favorite poets.

Let’s live suddenly without thinking

under honest trees,
a stream
does.the brain of cleverly-crinkling
-water pursues the angry dream
of the shore. By midnight,
a moon
scratches the skin of the organised hills

an edged nothing begins to prune

let’s live like the light that kills
and let’s as silence,
because Whirl’s after all:
(after me)love,and after you.
I occasionally feel vague how
vague i don’t know tenuous Now-
spears and The Then-arrows making do
our mouths something red,something tall.

e.e. cummings

Now the humor.

Woman Ages 50 Years In Days

The thought of going from age 23 to age 73 can be pretty daunting, but could you imagine going through the physical 50 year aging process in a matter of days?

Nguyen Thi Phuong was 23 years old when she switched medications to treat an itchy allergic reaction to seafood. A mixture of drugs left her skin sagging and wrinkled in a matter of days.

Neighbors said Phuong, now 26, is unrecognizable from her former self; her voice and black hair are the sole indicators of her true age, Tuoi Tre News reports. (Scroll to watch video of Phuong.)

The exact cause of the Vietnamese woman's rapid aging still had doctors scrambling for answers, pointing at either a rare condition called lipodystrophy or a side effect of too much steroid medication.

Lipodystrophy is a "rare syndrome that causes a layer of fatty tissue beneath the surface of the skin to disintegrate while the skin itself continues to grow at a startling pace," the Telegraph explains.

However, a recent trip to Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University Hospital reveals Phuong might be suffering from mastocytosis, an incurable disorder caused by the presence of too many mast cells, the Thanh Nien News reports.

Additional tests are needed to confirm if Phuong has the disorder before she starts treatment, but doctors are optimistic about the possible results.

@edgarblythe,
I looked for the "you're doing it wrong thread, ed, but settled on putting this story here...

http://www.kansas.com/2011/10/17/2066051/gun-goes-off-groin-injured.html

A man told Wichita police different versions of how he ended up with a gunshot wound in his groin on Sunday. He finally told them the gun went off when he tried to put the gun in his waistband, police said.

Police found the vehicle he was shot in — in the 3100 block of South Davidson, near Hillside and 31st Street South. They found two .22-caliber handguns in the car and drugs.

The man, 29, would not tell police what he and the two men with him, ages 25 and 49, were going to do with the guns, Lt. Doug Nolte said. They were all sitting in the car when the gun went off, Nolte said. The older man drove the wounded man to a hospital.

No one has been charged.

MIAMI (Associated Press / The Huffington Post) -- A South Florida woman got a shock when she opened a recent cell phone bill: she owed $201,000.

It was no mistake.

Celina Aarons has her two deaf-mute brothers on her plan. They communicate by texting and use their phones to watch videos. Normally, that's not a problem. Aarons has the appropriate data plan and her bill is about $175.

But her brothers spent two weeks in Canada and Aarons never changed to an international plan. Her brothers sent over 2,000 texts and also downloaded videos, sometimes racking up $2,000 in data charges.

When Aarons read the bill -- all 43 pages of it -- she realized she owed $201,005.44.

"I was freaking out," Aarons told the news station WSVN. "I was shaking, crying, I couldn't even talk that much on the phone. I was like my life is over!"

Thankfully, T-mobile agreed to lower the bill to a more manageable $2,500 and gave Aarons six months to pay up, WSVN reports.

In 2006, a Malaysian man reportedly received a phone bill totaling $218 trillion for calls made on a number he thought he had disconnected after his father's death.

A cyclops baby shark?

http://www.eversostrange.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/cyclops_shark.jpg

We've got a keeper here, folks! You know that Cyclops shark photo that went around this summer? The latest news on that bad boy is that it's real. I was just as wary of the image as you were -- with all the Photoshop gags out there, how's a person to know what's real and what's not? But numerous media outlets, including National Geographic, are now reporting that the little guy really does have only one eye.

The Cyclops baby was found when a fisherman caught a pregnant dusky shark and discovered the deformed fetus inside. The cartoonish photos he took then made their way onto blogs and Facebook, and the rest is viral Internet history

Louisiana bans using cash to buy second-hand goods

California avocado thief gets sentence: a fruit limit

Associated Press

Updated: 10/22/2011 09:10:20 AM PDT

VISTA - An admitted avocado thief is reaping the fruits of his crime: He's banned from possessing more than 10 at a time.

Barron Stein of Fallbrook was sentenced Thursday for grand theft by a San Diego County judge.

Stein stole up to 1,000 pounds of avocados from a Bonsall grove in March. The haul was worth about $1,500.

The North County Times says the unemployed tow-truck driver claimed he was desperate to support his family. Security cameras caught him.

Authorities say he has a history of avocado thefts.

Stein wasn't given jail time, but during his three years of probation he must avoid avocado groves without permission and can't possess more than 10 at a time. Violations will land him in jail for 180 days. That's sad, too.

I have a jar of avocado hearts in my fridge.

the humor, now.

@Rockhead,
I have seen similar stories. Usually some dork working in the hospital does it, whether by plan or accident.
