Do you mean vultures, like this?

They must be quite dramatic looking! They have a long wingspan?

The piece weights 100 kg and it is estimated to fetch between $127,000 and $190,000 in Sotheby's Contemporary Art Evening Auction which takes place on Feb. 15.

@tsarstepan,
100kg is a bit more hefty than the sunflower seeds we get around here. I guess that's the Chinese way.

@Reyn,
The local buzzards are a bit smaller than ones I have seen elsewhere, such as South Texas, but these birds have a pretty big wing span.

Couple make burglar clean their home at gunpoint

An American couple turned the tables on a burglar they caught ransacking their home by dispensing their own summary justice.

Without waiting for the law to arrive, the pair doled out their own punishment to the surprised criminal - they made him clean up the house at gunpoint!

The unlucky burglar was caught red-handed when Adrian and Tiffany McKinnon returned to their house near Montgomery, Alabama, after a week away.

To their dismay they discovered their home had been plundered.
"Tears just rolled down my face as I walked in and saw everything gone and piles of trash all over my home," Mrs. McKinnon told her local newspaper the Montgomery Advertiser.

When her husband walked into another room to check what was missing he came face to face with the burglar, who was wearing one of Mr. McKinnon's hats.

"My husband Adrian caught the thief red-handed in our home. And what is even crazier, the man even had my husband's hat sitting right on his head," Mrs. McKinnon said.

Mr. McKinnon held suspect Tajuan Bullock at gunpoint and made him sit down until he decided what to do.

"We made this man clean up all the mess he made, piles of stuff, he had thrown out of my drawers and cabinets onto the floor," Mrs. McKinnon said.

When the police arrived the work-shy burglar had the cheek to complain to them - about having to clean up his mess at gunpoint.

"This man had the nerve to raise sand about us making him clean up the mess he made in my house," said Mrs McKinnon.

But the police officer laughed at Bullock when he complained and told him that anybody else would have shot him dead.

Bullock was arrested on burglary and theft charges and was held in Montgomery County Detention Facility.

A police spokesman said the victims were lucky to be able to catch the suspect in the act and hold him until police arrived. It was an unusual case because usually burglars struck while the homeowner was away and were in and out fast so they could quickly sell the stolen items, the spokesman added.

Spriggin' Cell Phones

My wife was off with her sister one night a week ago. As she prepared to drive herself home, she phoned to let me know about it. After she had had enough time to make it home, I received another call from her phone. After I answered, I heard a sound at the other end, sounding much like I would imagine my wife would sound, were she getting beaten or murdered as she attempted to communicate with me. After calling her name a few times and getting no new response, I went to the door, prepared to trace the route she usually drives. I opened the door, and there she was, coming up the steps, looking perfectly normal. When I told her what happened, she explained that her phone did that all on its own. She never attempted to call me that last time.

I never heard of a land line doing that.

@edgarblythe,

DELANO, California (AP) — A man who was at an illegal cockfight in central California died after being stabbed in the leg by a bird that had a knife attached to its own limb, officials confirmed Monday.

Jose Luis Ochoa, 35, of Lamont, California, was declared dead at a hospital about two hours after he was injured in neighboring Tulare County on Jan. 30, the Kern County coroner said.

An autopsy concluded Ochoa died of an accidental "sharp force injury" to his right calf.

Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt said it was unclear if a delay in seeking medical attention contributed to Ochoa's death

@edgarblythe,
Poor Chaz, edgar. How did he get so fat?

I knew that roosters had spurs, but not knives. Amazing.

Another oddity.

In this 2007 file photo the 3.2 million year old Australopithecus afarensis skeleton called Lucy and an artist's life-sized model are displayed at the Houston Museum of Natural Science in Houston. Lucy's feet were made for walking. That's the word from a team of researchers that has gotten the first look at a foot bone from an human relative that lived three million or more years ago.

wikipedia
Lucy (also given a second (Amharic) name: dinqineš, or Dinkenesh, meaning "you are amazing" [3]) is the common name of AL 288-1, several hundred pieces of bone representing about 40% of the skeleton of an individual Australopithecus afarensis. The specimen was discovered in 1974 at Hadar in the Awash Valley of Ethiopia's Afar Depression. Lucy is estimated to have lived 3.2 million years ago.[1][4] The discovery of this hominid was significant as the skeleton shows evidence of small skull capacity akin to that of apes and of bipedal upright walk akin to that of humans, providing further evidence supporting the view that bipedalism preceded increase in brain size in human evolution,[5][6] though other findings have been interpreted as suggesting that Australopithecus afarensis was not directly ancestral to humans.[7] In 1994, a new hominid, Ardi, was found, pushing back the earliest known hominid date to 4.4 million years ago, although details of this discovery were not published until October 2009

Take it or leave it department: From the Enquirer:

MICHAEL ROSENBAUM, the original Lex Luthor on TV's SMALLVILLE has confirmed he's returning after a controversial hold-out to the series two-hour finale airing in May, The ENQUIRER has learned.

After months of will -he- or-won't-he Rosenbaum finally relented, saying "I'm simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is.

"I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness and even their threats. I can't wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again..... Oh, and for Lex to become the bad-ass he's destined to be."

Insiders have speculated that since Rosenbaum ankled the show back in 2008 ,as The ENQUIRER reported, that his career has been in the proverbial dumper and he's returning for one last hurrah to give his career a much needed shot in the arm.

Smallville exec producers/showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson said, ""It feels like the stars are aligning, literally. We couldn't be more excited about having Michael back,

"And as far as the way he returns … there'll be no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent's life.

"He IS the villain of the story."

PLUS! Insiders tell The ENQUIRER that despite internal Warners/DC Entertainment wrangling over the new Superman feature film, Smallville star TOM WELLING will finally appear in his legendary red and union blue Super-suit -one way or another - as the ultimate payoff to a decade long wait.
