The Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver will start very soon.
Perhaps a Fantasy Prediction Game will make them more fun.
6 Simple Rules of the Game:
1. Every participant will choose a "team" of 10 national olympic teams (divided by gender in the case of the Germany, Canada and USA teams). The aggregate result of these national olympic teams will determine the winner, on the basis of 5 points for every gold medal, 3 points for every silver medal, and 1 point for every bronze medal.
2. The 10 national olympic teams must be chosen from 4 different pools, in which the nations have been divided, according to their performance in Turin 2006, plus a host nation factor.
3. Each participant must choose 2 olympic teams from Group A, 2 olympic teams from Group B, 2 olympic teams from Group C and 4 olympic teams from Group D (with encompasses all nations not in any of the former groups).
4. Since Germany, Canada and the USA Olympic Teams are expected to get the most medals, they will be divided in USA Male, USA Female, Canada Male, Canada Female, Germany Male, Germany Female. Any medal won by a mixed duo or team (ice skate dancing, for example), will count for both male and female teams.
5. The medal count will be based on the OIC count. That is, collective medals count as one.
6. All participants must enter their predictions before the opening olympic ceremony.
Prizes:
Winner: Virtual Gold Medal, and congratulations from every one.
Runner Up: Virtual Silver Medal.
Third Place: Virtual Bronze Medal.

@fbaezer,
gosh, I hate these little buggers
but I'm in!
(gotta go see where Austria fits in)
@ehBeth,
i too hate those anime mascots, you'd think it was the Japanese Winter Olympics
but then again it is Vancouver
@ehBeth,
Beth, are these the mascots? Cheez, I thought you Canadians could do better than that. That looks like those dumass Japanese cartoon characters.
@farmerman,
I think vanoc is being punished with a lack of snow as a result of selecting those creepies.

Well, I like them! They make me smile!
And no, I'm not in with the Fantasy Winter Olympics League. Too confusing.

2 from group B: Norway and Austria
2 from group C: Finland and Netherlands
4 from group D: The first 4 participants in alphabetical order.

@ossobuco,
I think I'm going to pick my own mascots. Back in a bit...
@tsarstepan,
Changed my mind. I'll learn to like the mascots..
@ossobuco,
They (the mascots) need all the love and support to fend off all of the big meanies spreading their malice and general all around grouchiness! Yeah! You know who I'm talking about!
@tsarstepan,
Can I like only the Yeti?
(3 contestants already!)
@fbaezer,
I thought that was a Bigfoot or Sasquatch but your effort is admirable
fbaezer!
@tsarstepan,
Quatchi = Yeti
I like features of each, but the whole ... arrrrgh .... brown and green - that is so NOT winter-sporty. It is so Innsbruck-skiing-on-hay.
@tsarstepan,
I thought Bigfoot/Sasquatch too.. but I'm recently from the land of Bigfoot, or at least very large Bigfoot statues.
