I listen more than watch. My desk is in a nearby room. IF I hear something that really sounds incredible, I get up and have a look.

I was also flipping back and forth between Idol and the Games.

Did see (and hear) big hair, guitar/girl, thought she was awful, but apparently I wasn't paying attention because all the judges l o v e d her, bless her little Indie heart. yeah. Well, this is not music, it's pop music. right.

Sioban was very interesting.

Simon is so manipulative.
His little comments, like, "You may be in trouble after tonight" are real messages to the masses.

The little black girl needs some guidance. Why aren't they helping these kids chose their songs? That's the biggest complaint from the judges.

The singers have a list some weeks to choose from ( a stupid concept if ever there was one. They have a Country/Western week, always an embarassment to the rockers in the groups, but they never have a Jazz Week,, Confused Cool Mad )
This is a contest--- so part of being in it is choosing to your strengths, but that is a little difficult for a sixteen year old, I would think.

I get pissed off, as I did last night, when they ream the kid out for singing a song that "you would sing at your mother's birthday party" when she has no other experience of showing herself off. I wonder if there are coaches who offer themselves to the contestants (for a price)?? Is that allowed?

And who is dressing them to look like pageant contestants (or hookers) so that the judges can tsk tsk tsk at them?

Crystal, Katelyn and Lilly. They have that star thing going for them as well as image and talent. Unfortunately I think Kara was spot on when she nailed Crystal as a "coffeehouse" type performer though. She won't win...not enough broad appeal.... but I think that unless she screws up she will launch a career from this.

I said that song was too old for the young girl last night before she finished. she also was pushing her voice in the lower registers and in general to sound torchy and it was forced and throaty sounding as though she was trying to hard to be a sexy grown woman. It could have been stated a bit more mildly by Simon. She has a tremendous voice and actually a good deal of control for someone so young but she overstepped last night. IMO.

Monday was the first time I wanted to vote when the ladies sang and could not get thru. Mad I will not try again. Three times I called it was an insurance company. Trying to vote for 04 it kept saying, this is not set up yet. I am , as usual getting bored listening to them all sing. After a while they all sound alike to me. My favorite is still krystal. ( I though they let her go Embarrassed )

I don't vote much anymore, but when I did, I programmed all the numbers into my phone as AI 01, AI 02, etc. so could just hit redial 30 or so times until I did get through.

I never have and never would call in for a candidate. I think last years winner Chris whatever who was quite mediocre to Adam Lambert, has shown us all
too clearly how manipulated these contests are. I love to watch the tryouts,
but the rest is boring.

It's actually the "jury" who is to blame for the boring contestants as they choose
all of them. It seems Simon et al go for commercial faces and singing abilities
second. That good looking blond boy is prime example for it.

I don't really like that Kara DeGuardia very much.

I had never heard of any of the Idol judges, no, wait.. I had seen Paula Abdul's videos.

Randy apparently has a long history as a musician and producer (and I always respect his comments about pitch and staying with the melody.) Kara writes songs, and a lot of hits. Check out her discgraphy : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kara_DioGuardi_discography
That's a lot of tunes and knowing a lot about what's pop and what's not.

@Bi-Polar Bear,
I know. That's what is always so hysterical about the auditioners who don't know who he is. "Who do you think you are!!!!!!!" You don't know nothing!!!!

If I was trying out for the show, I'd find out everything I could about the people who were going to judge me.
