Okay, folks, here is my best shot at including fbaezer's points and prognostication. Let me know if you consider it inaccurate. Also, rjb, sorry for not responding to you earlier. I missed your post about our charity fantasy league. For close to twenty years, the LFFL (Lemhi Fantasy Football League) has existed as a local fundraiser. When we get together for draft night, I ask three things of each team: a team name (this year, Motorhead defeated the Vegetarian Butchers in the final), a thirty-dollar entry fee, and the name of their favorite charity. At the end of the season, the total pot is divided, with 50% to the winner, 30% to second place, and 10% each to the semifinal losers, donated to their designated charity. It keeps the league friendly, raises some cash for local organizations, and puts our annual team retention rate at close to 90%. It's really that simple.

@CowDoc,
really hope the ravens can find some way to make into the superbowl, i've come up with a few ways they can accomplish it, but i'm gonna keep them under my hat for right now

i realize this doesn't count, but if the ravens can't make it, it's gonna be the jets and the vikings, with the jets winning 17/14

How (Jaw-dropping) Awesome Is This Story?
It is not, we are assured, satire from the Onion.
Don "Moose" Lewis is setting up a pro basketball league, the All American Basketball Alliance. He hopes to field 12 teams.
All players must be white, born in the U.S. of 2 white parents and must have a "minimal" number of tattoos.
Lewis claims that people who meet that criteria are "...in the minority now." He, of course, is not racist. Not at all, he claims. He just wants there to be a league that is "not going to be the street-type ball mentality." And he adds "Would you want to go to a game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their (sic) crotch? That's the culture today."
Suggested team names that caught my eye: Charleston Crackers, Houston Honkies, Cleveland Caspars and Philadelphia Really Pale Guys.

@CowDoc,
Thanks, CD.

fbeazer should have 8 points total

Quote:
FB chose all the way through on 1/4...Wild Card Games (played on 1/9-1/10), Divisional Play Off (1/16-1/17), Championship (1/24) and Super Bowl (2/7).
He went 2-2 in the Wild Card (= 2 points).
On 1/11 he changed his picks for the Divisional games. That was fine as the rest of us were just starting the picking all the way through thing. He indicated a winner in each game but did have the matchups wrong. I go by who he chose to win (and I offer that as proof as to how difficult it would have been to pick all the way through before the Wild Card games...not knowing what the matchups were going to be).
He went 3-1 for 6 more points = 8.
His most recent picks for the Championship games and Super Bowl came too late (1/18?) to be included. So he is stuck with his original picks of San Diego and Green Bay this week and San Diego in the Super Bowl.
Fbaezer goes to the bench, sits down, hurls his helmet to the ground and in his finest NY accent snarls "We was robbed!"
.

I didn't check the rest of them...

@JPB,
I must have missed the changes for the divisional games. Who was it that he picked? Not that it matters a lot, but it would make it lots easier for me to change the spreadsheet if I knew where to add the points.

@CowDoc,
My spread sheet shows FB getting 2 points in the Wild Card games.
Then he had N.O. over AZ (+2), Indy beating Balt (+2), Minn topping Dallas (+2) before missing on NY vs San Diego.
Fortunately FB has a good sense of humor about this senseless game, or perhaps he is afraid that I will once again unchain my redneck dog, who knows his way to Mexico City.

they made some noise in the early-mid 80's, but i lost interest when they tanked in the 90's.
now that i've been living up heeyuh, i've severed all my NY team ties (except for the hockey rangers)...

@spendius,
It's more than that, though. It's hard to keep up with the weekly doings of your old team when you move to an area that's saturated with local team coverage. It was nearly impossible for me to follow my New England favorites once I moved to Chicago. Rather than getting Jets/Giants/Bruins/Celtics/Nicks/Rangers/Red Sox/Yankees/Mets games on every channel we only get Bears/Packers/Bulls/etc...

Good day to yall. The 1st game won't be until 3 pm (ET), about 3 hours from now.
When I was a wee lad, I supported the Redskins. That was before personal computers. In fact, that was the team that had their games broadcast on local radio or television. And I could read the stories in the Washington Post.
I lived in Atlanta for a spell and had to root for the Falcons or risk getting beat up.
Later I went for the Packers. Partially because Wisconsin was where my ancestors ended up when they immigrated from Poland/Austria/Germany to help dig the Erie Canal. And partially because it is the smallest NFL market - where the team is owned by the citizens of Green Bay.
Now I am a Steelers fan because from the owners to the coaches and to the players, they are a class act. They don't tolerate stupid behavior.

My first love in football has always been and will remain the Steelers. If it had not been for the team in the days of Bradshaw, I would have kept on being a football hater.

Goodness gracious me!! You won't get very far in the World Cup with a sanctimonious attitude like that.

Do the Steelers recruit from the seats of the Higher Learning then?
