@Region Philbis,
Well done! I bet you can't wait to see the "1:" part of the timing disappear.

@George,
This week is off to a slow start. On Monday Two-Mile Mike and I did an
underwhelming 1.5 miles. Yesterday, I gave my back a break and had a
nice long walk (semi-brisk) at lunch. Rhys and I had a good workout at the
gym last night, though. Today our group is having a going-away lunch for
David, our co-op who's going back to RIT. That's double trouble. I won't
get a workout in AND I'll eat too much.

Guess which way I went.

The "weigh" part comes tomorrow morning.
Won't be pretty.

@George,
I figured today's Urban Dictionary Word of the Day would be appreciated here:

When you can run faster than most people and you give the best hugs because you are warm and great to cuddle up into. To be chubby fit you must be active but also have a six pack of pudding cups!

@tsarstepan,
Chubby fit.
I probably wouldn't wear that on a t-shirt.

I did my 10 K run today.
It was 10-K-and-then-some, 6.4 miles.
I was only out to do the distance so my pace was slow.
(That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)
My time was 1:13:17 which is something like an 11:30 pace.

My next long run will be at about 10K, but I'll try to pick up the pace.

No run this weekend but a good canoe trip on the Sudbury and Concord.

Nigel joined us for the paddle and dinner afterwards. Great day.

We rotated positions every half hour so we each got a hour of work,
half in the stern and half in the bow.

The age of guys in the Integration & Test group here at The Widget
Factory ranges from young twenty-somethings like Mickey C through
seasoned veterens in their late forties like Two-Mike Mike to fossils like
me.

As Two-Mile Mike left his desk to meet me for a lunchtime jog, he passed
the conference room where most of the guys were eating. Never one to
pass up an oppotunity to harrass his co-workers, he poked his head in
asked who was coming for a run. No one was.

"C'mon," he said, "I'm running with George. He's old enough to be my
father." (I'm actually two years older.)

"Yeah," said Mickey C. "So that would be like me running with you!"

Ooooh.

We were at the "99" restaurant reading our menus. I am happy to report
that you can get a good meal there that is reasonable in terms of fat and
calories. I got a burger and fries. It was the All Star Burger, "official burger
of the Boston Red Sox" and it had cheese and bacon among the toppings.
I looked to see if they had the official salad of the Red Sox. They did not.
Can't hit homers on no leafy greens, son.

Fortified, Rhys and I went to the gym for our workout. It was chest and
triceps night. We did chest presses, flies, and alternate-hand chest
presses. Then we did overhead triceps extentions and downward triceps
extensions using the cable machines. By the end of it I was totally baked.
Probably worked off a good five per cent of the meal.

Will there be beer at the fluid stations? The Munich Marathon serves alcohol-free beer at kilometer 30. I find its example worth emulating.

I concur. And I hate most beer I tasted. Alcoholic-free beer is just evil.

Every once in a while, things just click. We were paddling on the Ipswich
River along a narrow, serpentine stretch in Topsfield. Nigel had the bow; I
had the stern. As we approached a turn, I called "hut". He switched from
paddling on the right to the paddling on the left as I switched from left to
right. His switches had been getting faster, but usually I could get in a
stroke before he planted. Not today. Both paddles pierced broke the
surface as one. My next stroke was a sweep and we turned at just the
right time.

I needed help at the next turn so I called a draw. Nigel extended his arms
out to the side and planted with the blade parallel to the hull. He pulled in
and I could feel the bow coming around. As we entered a straight stretch
we came upon a several canoes and kayaks ahead of us. There's a canoe
livery nearby that was doing good business.

Nigel and I both had the same thought. As bow man, he is responsible for
setting the stroke rate and intensity. He went into a fast pace and I
followed suit. We zigged and zagged through the crowd and on ahead. It
felt good.
