@Region Philbis,
Go with miles, why not? Accuracy is overrated.

I did a three at lunch. Good day for it, 70s and mostly cloudy.

I gave blood yesterday. My hemoglobin count is usually right around the
cut-off number 13. Every so often it's below 13 and I can't give. Now
yesterday it was at 16. I mention this on the running club thread because
usually I go for a jog at lunch even on donor days, and donate at around
1:00 or 1:30. But yesterday I did not have a chance to run. Hmmm.

Jogged 10K today around Spot Pond. I felt OK during the run, but I'm feeling a
lot of little aches and cramps now.

@George,
Reminds me of when I lived there growing up. I lived at the southern end of Wright's Pond (now called Wright's Park).

new phone has a built-in pedometer / running app.

not knowing how to use it, i clicked "start" and it timed me for three out of four miles
jogged -- apparently i averaged a 10:23 mile.

slower pace than when i used to run competitively, but not too shabby either.

it comes equipped with an automated voice that cut into the music i was listening to,
saying things like "slow down", "too fast", "great gait".

definitely need to shut that off for my next jog...

@Region Philbis,
"Great gait"? Sounds like your phone's making a move on you.

Do you generally listen to music while you run?

I managed to get my knee back in shape. I followed the usual regimen: rest
and elevation for a few days, then leg extensions with resistance. After
that I did three miles with alternating three minutes walking and one
minute jogging, then two and two and finally three and one before doing
three miles with no walking.

Yesterday I ran the Take The Lake 5K around Lake Quannapowitt in
Wakefield. I finished in 32:07 (10:21 pace). That was good for second in
the geezer age group.

@Region Philbis,
ran a little last week. I was down at the edge of a stream along my oodland and there was this skunk mamma who had a litter of kits. They had no common sense and didnt run from me when I stumbed on them so the mamma began to chase me with her tail up and she was ready to turn and spray. he chased me a fence square (bout 100 ft) and I was puffing from a full blast takeoff. I culda had a heart attack and the only thing I could think about would "How fuckin cool would it be to have an open casket service ith me smelling like the ass end of a skunk"

Country livin dont have a lot of sophistication, for us a great date is checkin each other;s body for ticks

@farmerman,
speaking of the same, we went to a "tick talk" at a local conservation group called the Cary Institute here in upstate nr Kingston NY ). Of course, this was after 2 bites from 2 different dog ticks. They apparently jumped off of my cute dog who has well-protected by a great flea and tick collar) and onto my rib cage. I felt it and went to remove it which was no easy feat as it was on my side out of mirror range. These ticks will win the battle of survival well past we ended the earth a smoking toilet.

In this tick talk, I found out, much to my chagrin, that larvae can bite you as well as nymphs and mature ticks. Oh yeah, the deer tick (of Lyme disease infamy) are not the only tick problem. Other types of ticks may give you other nasty diseases too/ And it's fairly painful. too.

yeh we do, for about 20 years . It moves fast with the deer tick and deer mouse vectors. They say it moved around 300 mi/yr from its initialdescribed area of Old Lyme Conn.

@Ragman,
yeh, the NY/Pa?Md areas has had more cases of Rocky Mt Spotted Fever or Lone Star and Dog tick association than have all the rocky mtn states combined. Its just right in that we have th proper density of hosts to keep em developing clinical symptoms

After my knee started acting up, I decided to give it some rest. Having done
so, I did a few low-key jog/walks. That went well. Today, I plan to run
about three miles with no intervals of walking.

My next goal is to extend my distance to 10 kilometers.
