@George,
I'll be running the Boston Corporate Challenge with some folks from the
Widget Factory.

I will NOT post my result.

(We have a really cool shirt, though.)

@tsarstepan,

Somewhere in these pages I related how I carried my glasses in my hand during a rain-drenched 18 mile training run and how it was a revelation to me because I had to have my hand relaxed throughout the whole three hours. I resolved afterwards to run just that way, tense enough to make a steady pace, loose enough to enjoy every footfall.

took my first ever jogging-related spill this morning.
took my eye off the ground for a split-second, and paid for it by tripping on a wee sidewalk out-cropping.

fortunately it happened right across the street from chez Philbis, towards the end of my run.

scraped left elbow/forearm seems to be the worst of it.
took a cold shower and a couple of advil.
jes bandaged me up...

we'll see if any other aches/pains rear their ugly head in the coming days...

@Region Philbis,
And I suffered a freak patio-chair accident.
My work-outs ain't what they used to be.

In the past I have had the occasional sidewalk section trip me up.
Nasty little buggers.

@George,
As a person with peripheral vision curtailed (although I didn't know I was different for many years, like forty, just thought I was clumsypoo), I've learned to move my eyes (an optometrist said nah, but I like wide lenses) a lot, but have to keep learning that again and again, plus moving my head. I've always been a great faller, but elderlyness approaches and I walk more like a victim waiting for a curb to happen.

I remember when I used to hop down the boulders at Yosemite, though I was slower, more guageing than boyfriend.
My eyes are essentially the same (after some flips and twigging in recent years) as they were back then.
But now fear is reasonable.

Hang in, George, and beat down those chairs.

my old pair of running shoes are pretty worn out now, so i got these "trail" shoes --

http://gearpatrol.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/New-Balance-Minimus-Trail-MT10-Gear-Patrol.jpg

took 'em out for a spin last night.
no unusual aches or pains this morning.

they are light weight, very pliable.
low to the ground -- i could feel every little crack in the sidewalk.
less shock-absorption than standard shoes.
good toe room and toe flexability.

read a couple reviews.
runners seem to like them.
puddles could be an issue.
apparently it's the next best thing to bare-foot running...

@Region Philbis,
Nigel has a pair of those and loves them.

They've been soaking in a bucket outside for the past week.

Why? you ask.

Well, Nigel is on an Ultimate Frisbee team with a group of his friends.
Nigel is relatively new to the game and, like his dad, not richly gifted in
natural athletic ability. So, like his dad, he compensates by working hard,
playing his position intelligently, and pushing himself. Last weekend he
had a tournament, three games Saturday and three games Sunday. After
the Saturday games he helped us move Hermione and Fred to a new
apartment.

Sunday afternoon, I was a bit bushed from helping with the move so I
lay down for a nap. Not for long. The Lovely Bride came charging up
the stairs and declared "Cody (a friend and teammate) just called. Nigel's
in Mt. Auburn Hospital. He's had some kind of breakdown." And off we
went.

Turns out the breakdown was the dizziness, nausea and disorientation
resulting from heat exhaustion, low sodium and the leakage of muscle
protein into his blood stream. In short, the boy had overdone it and paid
the price in the middle of game thee.

So how does this relate to shoes in a bucket? Glad you asked. I
mentioned nausea. That resulted in several attacks of vomiting. The
shoes got in the way.
