@Region Philbis,
It's on March 6, 10 am, in Washington Heights---the Northern tip of Manhattan.
Here's the website.
@Thomas,
thanx -- we'll look into it.
the webpage says adults race @ 9am / kids race @ 10am...
Got out for a run today. The roads are still a bit narrow due to snow banks,
but I was jogging in a low-traffic area. I haven't been running much so I
tried to raise the intensity level just a tad. For the first time in two
months, I ran at a sub-ten pace. No, please hold your applause. It was
nothing really. It was nothing. Really.
So now I'm up to 23.5 miles for 2011. On my virtual jog to Montreal, I
am slogging along Rt 28 in Salem, NH. Northward Ho!
I did a slow, comfortable 2-and-a-half through the interconnected parking
lots where I work. I'm getting antsy.
Slogged along for 3.7 miles today. Only 34 miles for the year.
On the virtual jog to Montreal, I'm on Rt 28 going through Derry NH.
Oh, look! Robert Frost's farm!
@George,
Nice!
We have the Irish race (Ras Na Heirann) in 11 days. First 5K o' the year.
@jespah,
took advantage of this gorgeous 53°F weather and did a 2.5 mile (or so) jog.
the reservoir track was nice n' soft, but still icy in spots.
hope to duplicate the
feet again tomorrow...
@Region Philbis,
Here, not so much - time with the family means very little time to work out.
Hey. Checking in here (I feel like I was never away)
Did the first race of the year, a 5K in 29:56.
I'm 13 pounds heavier and one minute slower which tells me what? I don't know.
The Coogan's Salsa, Blues & Shamrocks 5K starts at the bottom of a hill, goes up 1/2 mile then a small downgrade then UP again to the road around the Cloisters Museum. That's a one mile loop of down down down down and then up up up UP, then you zoom down, zoom up and reach that final 1/2 mile of nothing but down (and wet manhole covers!!)...... to the finish.
AH! There is nothing like the smell of Spring and 5,370 wet runners in the rain.
3,453 of whom ran faster than me.
(But I run for the joy of it, the thrill, the free t-shirt... .. )
Damn kids!
Get your green bagel (I kid you not) then meet Thomas for a nice breakfast. Omelet and a Bloody Mary for me, something much more reserved for him.
Joe(eight more races to qualify for NYC 2012 Marathon)Nation
I ran my first race today (Coogan's Salsa, Blues & Shamrocks 5K in Washington Heights, Manhattan). It took me 33:27---not great, not terrible. Looking forward to the 5K in Somerville next Sunday.
The New York Road Runners have a tradition where they invite someone to sing The Star-Spangled Banner before each race. This time we got a very expressive opera singer who seemed to relish every moment of it. So here we were, in the rain and the wind, eager to start running, and the singer kept relishing and relishing and relishing. "Oh say does that star-spangled bahaneeer yehet waaahaaaaaaaave... ohor the laaahand of the freeeeeeeeeee..." I had no idea heartfelt singing could be that annoying!
32: 07 in my second 5k this year. Not a bad improvement over a week, especially if you subtract the 40 seconds I stood backed up in front of the finish line. Of course, it'll be long before I can even dream of catching Region.
@Thomas,
thanx.
do take some credit for finishing the nyc marathon, something i ain't never doing...

@Region Philbis,
43:07 yesterday. Mah legs hurt. #4950/5112 finishers, and last (30/30) of my gender/age/weight class.
@jespah,
i appear to be staring directly at the camera, though i have zero recollection of doing so...
