WHY do they even think that an electric truffle slicer will be the next big thing? Couldnt you just use a band saw?

What the hell would you do with an electric truffle, even if you could slice it?

@farmerman,
At Williams SOnoma, they also carry a 299 dollar orange juice squeezer. It does exactly the same thing as one of those clam shell kinds that yer gramma had (and Ive inherited cause we like fersh squoze OJ).
If the orange was too big (like a giant valencia) you could add a length of copper pipe to the squish arm and walla, you could smash clam shells.

Cover them with electric chocolate and stuff them with raspberry ganache ... equals electric raspberry truffles?

Being a poor person, I've never actually tasted a truffle, say nothing of having to consider expensive gadgets to slice them.

Could some of you wealthy folk explain the allure, please? So I have some idea ...

They're not exactly pretty, are they?

@msolga,
I've had truffles (or a smidge of truffle) in ravioli in New York, and some on a bread appetizer thing in Perugia - but saying they were smidges is probably exaggerating the contents.

@msolga,
delicious..
but I surmise truffle appreciation involves a good sense of smell, and I don't have one.

I am attracted to visiting truffle country and the rustic restaurants that dot those areas. (send money)

Thinking: I wonder if truffle oil is affordable?

@msolga,
Yes, but I've read they're a "rook". Or some of them are. I got some at the airport (Rome, I'm guessing) and still haven't used it. Cute little bottle, and if I bought it, it wasn't much money. Maybe they vary in quality.
