Poll: Happy Juneteenth 2025! Doing anything special for the holiday?

Thu 19 Jun, 2025 04:16 pm
Hi. Happy Juneteenth 2025! June 19 is Juneteenth. Are you doing anything special for the holiday?

I'm not. Juneteenth is a relatively NEW holiday thanks to President Biden. I don't know how to properly celebrate, observe and/or commemorate the holiday.

Please help. Thank you.

Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the abolition of slavery in America. Does no one here care about the holiday?

@JGoldman10,
Have you thought people might not have seen your posts yet?

As far as I'm concerned it's an American thing.

@Region Philbis,
Hello Region. I am not forcing anyone to respond to this thread. This is a thread for African Americans but anyone is welcome to respond to this thread. Did you do anything special for Juneteenth?

If Juneteenth is such a big deal why wasn't it made a federal holiday YEARS AGO? Why did we have to wait until President Biden to take action to make it a federal holiday?

@JGoldman10,
You may think trolling is the way for you to get attention here, but it's not working the way you think it will.

Shocked you thought this was a great idea to post about.

SHAME ON YOU!

@JGoldman10,
I'm sure race had absolutely nothing to do with it, it was probably held up by procedure or something for all those years.

The last extra bank holiday we got was back when Sunny Jim Callaghan was prime minister when we got 1st May off.

The Tories have always hated it, it being international workers day, a Socialist holiday no less.

I used to start threads about Juneteenth, but there was virtually no response so I gave up.

@bobsal u1553115,
Starting a thread on Juneteenth isn't "trolling".

@izzythepush,
In a state that didn't recognize Martin Luther King Day except as "rodeo day" at most schools, I assume you were making a sardonic comment that it must have been a procedure about Juneteenth. It wasn't. It was racism. Texas didn't recognize Martin Luther King Day until maybe 15 years ago or so. They were the same about Juneteenth, which ironically enough, started in Texas.

@edgarblythe,
In A2K's defense, with the small numbers of A2Kers here, it's hard enough to start any topic.

@bobsal u1553115,
I don't think Mr Goldman is trolling.

I think he's just a bloody idiot, and that's not his fault.

He doesn't seem to have had much of an education and is generally clueless about most things.

If anyone tells you there's no such thing as a stupid question just refer them to Mr Goldman's posts, 90% of his questions fit that category.

@izzythepush,
Fwiw, I had a good chuckle.

Of course if OP read the Wikipedia article they linked, they probably wouldn't have asked the question in the first place.
