@RexRed,
I think there will always be plenty of money to be made in healthcare and I am all for companies getting a decent payback on their investments. The idea that companies can charge Americans outrageous amounts to fund growth and the rest of the world doesn't have to contribute as much is a bit off. If you are talking about drug development, drug prices account for less than 10% of health spending in the US. That is a lot, but I think you can allow drug companies a reasonable return on their investments and risk taking while controlling costs. Of course, the devil is in the details.

@engineer,
The dems want research and development into alternative energy technologies but they want to cripple the ongoing medical research into life threatening illness and such? This research saves many lives all over the globe.

How are you reaching this conclusion?

@DrewDad,
It is well known that fee markets are more competitive than socialized markets.

@RexRed,
A single payer system is not "socialized." There would still be significant opportunities to create a new product and capture significant market share. No one has suggested that companies have to turn over their patents to the government.

@engineer,
I don't really know enough about it to remark I am only curious what others think. Who are we going to pay our money to in this single payer system?

Have you ever had a government job? I did once. It was the highest paying job I have ever had. I would go in in the morning and sleep with my head down on the desk for about an hour then wake up read the newspaper and eventually mosey on in to do a little work 'till I clocked out at 4:00 pm... As opposed to the restaurants that worked me as a dish dog all day long in a broiling hot kitchen and paid me next to nothing.

Perhaps the government will hire me and everyone can pay me to fix their ills? Smile

Just found this thread. Good luck in searching through who you are and what you believe.

Beyond the single topics, I find it fascinating to try and imagine what it must feel like. Just rereading your old thoughts/posts must be a very profound experience. It has to be incredibly inciteful. The ability to remember how you thought you were perceived and then to view with your own eyes yet as if third person.

You said on the first page that you are gay. Is this new that you identify this way?

@Diest TKO,
No I have been gay even during my most religious efforts. I was never a hypocrite about my sexuality.

The republican party finally stopped calling me. I guess they either gave up or they just had a shut off if a person never answered the phone once. It was several calls a day I had to ignore for over a month. What was I going to say on the phone to them? Thanks but good riddance? Imagine me not wanting to put in my two cents. The minute I saw them out attacking gay marriage equality I realized that was the end of my support for their party. I don’t think I can even support a republican candidate for any office. The thought that they pay thirty dollars a year in dues to deny me equal marriage equality is just too much.

I regret every penny I have paid into the party in the few donations I have sent them in support. I am also not saying that there is not a single democrat in Maine that may vote yes on one. Will they do it because they listened to the church propaganda?

Today I walked to the supermarket and there in the park where a major street of busy traffic passed were the republicans... They had stuck in the ground about seventy of the vote yes on 1 posters so you couldn’t miss seeing them there. And there in the center were two giant US flags.

I thought to myself first. Well since these signs are all bought and paid for by special interest CHURCHES. What are they displaying the US flags for? Isn’t there separation of church and state? On the other part of the street were about forty of the democrat signs discretely along the road.

These democrat signs are not paid for by a few wealthy CHURCHES at all... A HUGE chunk of these donations are from Maine residents... "THE PEOPLE" they are paid for by many small contributions from residents within the state of Maine. A state governed by the people protected by the US constitution.

So who has more of a right to garner the US flag? A religions conglomerate or the common people?

These churches are taking the wealth given to them by trusting religious people from other states. These people assume they will be using this money to feed the poor. Instead they are using it politically to persecute homosexuals. I would then say churchgoers beware of your religious institutions. Beware that your money is not going to later on persecute your own children for the person they choose to fall in love with. The residents are directly in real-time giving their opinions/donations of what they wish the law of the state to be by donating to marriage equality in a much greater proportion.

Is the purpose of the church to openly subvert the will of the American people? To deceptively use symbols i.e. the US Flag. Behind this flag carried by the republicans is a CHURCH not “the people”. I say this entire push by the church is unconstitutional and should deprive them of their tax free status and government programs if they wish to subvert the will of the people by bullying political deceptive means and represent themselves as the government. The US flag belongs to a sovereign country governed by its people not the propaganda of a few mad clerics.

@RexRed,
Just read this whole thread.

Wow! Got stuck for a bit on "Save the Polar Bears" from your list on page 1. NEVER thought I'd hear ya say that! : )

I went through the religious / not religious transformation a few years back. I know how confusing and frightening it can be. So far no lightening strikes, so I'm fairly confident you'll be spared that as well.

Just my way of letting you know that squinney is all happy for you. Live, love and laugh.

The great state of Maine! a bunch of hoodwinked inbred hillbilly heteros. PROOF that humans have devolved due to religious fanaticism and too many fried potatoes for brains.

Heterosexuals were afraid that gays may show them they're more monogamous when given the same playing field. Having some competition in marriage would have strengthened marriage for both sides.

Evil wins! YAY! (cynical)

There is given me a thorn in my flesh, the evil church of religious hatred for gays, set to buffet me from obtaining and living a more abundant life that is ordained by mutual adult human love, monogamy and my creator.
