@mysteryman,
No - I was talking about where I live when I said that I don't mind having money taken out of my check to pay for the peace of mind I have knowing that all children in the country I live in have access to healthcare.

But I would feel and do the same in the US.

@aidan,
And you again ignore the fact that EVERY child in this country has access to healthcare.

There are thousands of programs to provide health care, but many people either dont know about them or have to much pride to use them.

I'm not ignoring any facts. I don't do that. I will find the article I only recently read and I will post it. Give me a few moments.

@Yankee,
Of course they should be counter as the illegal are going to get some form of treatment at the taxpayer expense and for the most part not the tax payers who benefit by having the cheap labor available to them. and their damn businesses.

And risk pool where the low risk young does not pay anything into is a higher risk pool then needed also. And we all get old.

Can you say CONFLICT OF INTEREST?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07/20/AR2009072003363.html?hpid=topnews&sub=AR

Quote:
As liberal protesters marched outside, Sen. Max Baucus sat down inside a San Francisco mansion for a dinner of chicken cordon bleu and a discussion of landmark health-care legislation under consideration by his Senate Finance Committee.
At the table on May 26 were about 20 donors willing to fork over $10,000 or more to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, including executives of major insurance companies, hospitals and other health-care firms.

Quote:
As his committee has taken center stage in the battle over health-care reform, Chairman Baucus (D-Mont.) has emerged as a leading recipient of Senate campaign contributions from the hospitals, insurers and other medical interest groups hoping to shape the legislation to their advantage. Health-related companies and their employees gave Baucus's political committees nearly $1.5 million in 2007 and 2008, when he began holding hearings and making preparations for this year's reform debate.

Well, this not only looks like a huge conflict of interest, it also violates Obama's pledge to have every meeting, discussion, or hearing about the healthcare bill televised on C-SPAN.

@H2O MAN,
You do know that right wingers like you name call the Medicare program in the 60's correct?

Wonder how many of those people who name call Medicare as fascist would now give it up in their own old age?

Silly name calling is not going to carry the day anymore my friend and I question even the 100s of millions of dollars of lying TV spots by the insurance companies and the drug companies is going to carry the day either this time.

So tell me what you would do for a child who developes diabetes whose mother waits tables all day and makes too much to qualify for medicaid, but has to use her wages for shelter and food for her family and can't afford insulin?

For starters:
Get a better paying job or a second job.
Cut all non-essential expenses.
Seek out non-government charity health care networks that are ready to help.

And if their parent can't - or even just won't? What would you tell that child?

Sorry kid, but your parents suck, they are products of government schools and they never should have had you.

@H2O MAN,
We are talking about higher taxes and costs for everyone, the rationing
of health care and a decrease in the quality of health care in the US.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And in this silly universe you live in we do not have ration health care in the US now?

The last time I enter a hospital the first thing they wished to see was my insurance card and it is checked by both my doctors and the hospitals before I got any care.

Now that sound like rationing to me.

Second my doctor wished me to had a costly drug and it took 6 months of fighting with my health plan to get it and now my doctor told me that we need to do everything by the book as my account is red flag as a result.

Sure the hell sound like rationing to me.

Lets see, if the parents WONT, I would tell the child that I was removing them from the home and placing them with a family that would take care of them.
Why should a child suffer because the parents WONT do something?

If the parents CANT, I would educate the parents about all of the programs that exist to help them, I would help them sign up for whatever they are eligible for, and then give the parents a chance to show that they can and will care for their child.
If the parents refuse, see my first answer.

@mysteryman,
They are going to have health care insurance just like everyone who drive have car insurance and for the same reasons.

Oh what amuse me is during my working life that span 36 years or so I and my companies pay insurance and I used little of it but now that I had reach the age of high risk of needing coverage if it was not for my wife I would be naked to the world.

Great damn system.

But not every driver has car insurance.
Approx 10% of car owners/drivers dont have insurance either.

What makes you think they would choose to get car insurance?

@DontTreadOnMe,
guess if ya don't pay in, ya can't collect. similar to unemployment or ssi, i guess.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem with that is the the population that is younger will take the risk and then when they are older will wish to jump on the ban wagon.

Risk pool should be everyone in this society as it is in all other western countries.
