Since purity of essence seems to be the only thing that the GOP seeks, what will they do as the US becomes an increasingly diverse country.

IS The GOP , in its present form, a dinosaur?

What will take its place?

Can anybody give them a clue?

WHo's running their store?

@farmerman,
Remember Limbaughs "Operation Chaos"?. That was a winner wasnt it? As the GOP rolls out the slogans that Were popular in the 30's and in present day China, what are they doing to widen their "tent"?
Seems to me that a political party should be trying to ATTRACT members , not, like in 2008 Pa, drive hundreds of thousands of them to another party.

@farmerman,
It's been pointed out before that the Republican Party is made up of groups with clashing goals.

They just hate Democrats and "liberals" more than they hate each other.

@DrewDad,
GOP cannot seem to handle diversity well. To them its a dirty word that is code for "them v us"

By shrinking, do you mean they're getting smaller, or just more pin-headed?

@farmerman,
Actually the GOP has a real problem because Obama is not a tax and spend liberal, so their primary target has vanished. They really don't have any plan of their own to sell, and now they have nothing left to demonize either.

@farmerman,
You really do not understand the meaning if what you suggest.

Seems to me your definition of diversity would separate people into groups .

True Libertarians would look past all ethnic and religious catagories and judge people by the content of their character.

Neither Democrats or Republicans can understand that.

Then, how would you describe him? Maybe, borrow and spend?

@rosborne979,
The Pa GOP has lost 220000 party members since last years election. AND NOW, the GOP , afraid that Toomey will get crushed in a general election against Arlen Specter, is considering putting up "Duct TApe" Tommy Ridge, (Who, in many cases, is even more moderate than ARlen).

PA GOP remainders would vote for a moderate GOP but would stay away from the much more conservative Pat Toomey or SANCTIMONIOUS SANTORUM.

If we labeled him "borrow and spend" then Republicans would be lining up to lick his boots.

The American Conservative
HOPE FOR THE GOP
Posted on May 4th, 2009 by Patrick J. Buchanan

Buchanan explains that there is hope for the GOP. After all, if the country's direction doesn't improve, that will be Obama's "albatross" and "the GOP will not have to wear those concrete boots in 2012." Also, there is hope if a conservative candidate exploits the cultural divide on social issues and snags the "values" voters.

Excerpt:

Quote:
Among values voters, fully 30 percent of the electorate, McCain won 65 percent to 32 percent, or by two to one.

What these numbers demonstrate is that liberals and neocons instructing the GOP to dump the social, moral, and cultural issues are counseling Republicide. When African-Americans, who gave McCain 4 percent of their votes in California, gave Proposition 8, prohibiting gay marriage, 70 percent of their votes, why would the GOP give up one of its trump cards " not only in Middle America but among minorities?

A conservative who could have sharpened the social, moral, and cultural differences might, from the exit polls, have done far better.

What do you think of Buchanan's optimistic outlook for the GOP?

@Debra Law,
Prop 8 was considerably dissected in that the Gay activists for prop 8 commited a serious error in not going after the black vote and thereby, losing it by no means that would allow Buchanan to declare a "connection" that GOP could mine. The concept of "values" always presumes that the other side of your precious fence is peopled by evil no-accounts who , as atheists and libertines all, have no morals like yours.
I Havent heard that kind of **** since the parable of the Pharisee and the Publican.

The Republicans will have to find another personality that the masses look up to, a la Ronald Reagan. There are a few in Hollywood. Be patient.
