I say again, with just one or two minor modifications, the ordinary little 300 dollar Henry lever-action rifle in 22 magnum caliber would be an almost ideal "assault rifle" according to the military definition.

Best from the standpoint of the political definition (looking scary to demokkkrats and snowflakes) would be (to my thinking at least) the Swiss stgw57 which uses the same cartridge as the old K31 rifles.

@hightor,
The reason I used those 2 specific guns is that they are the exact same gun with different cosmetics. Fire the same bullet at the same caliber at the same speed and rate of fire. There is absolutely no difference other than cosmetic features.

I guarantee that 4 out 5 gun banners would choose to ban the bottom one while thinking the top one was less dangerous.

Normal people don't shoot from the hip unless they are actors in a movie. A pistol grip, if you have ever held one at waist level, is harder to control then a non-pistol grip rifle due to the way your arm and wrist are shaped. Try with a broom or something.

Calling something "assault style" is like calling a car "sports like". It either is an assault rifle or it isn't. Cosmetic appearances do not define an assault rifle. It's like puuting a wing on the back of a beetle and calling it a Porsche.

I find a standard stock easier to carry at waist level but awkward for pulling a trigger. And I'd never pull the trigger on a hunting rifle carried that way. My M-16 had the carry handle, of course, but shooting it was easier; I just had to move the gun forward and it would naturally rise to a point where the pistol grip felt comfortable. That was, like fifty ******* years ago — I know things have changed but I think the ergonomics would be the same.

@glitterbag,
I'd appreciate it if you didn't quote that creature, I have no interest whatsoever in what it has to say.

You fired your gun without aiming??? Didn't they train you how to use the gun?

@oralloy,
Youve just exposed your lack of experience with an M16 .

@farmerman,
Are you saying that they can be aimed when held at the waist?

The English are so inclusive, and terrified.

The two of us may be the only ones here who know what you are referring to.

You don''t aim a shotgun, you'd never hit anything with it if you did. Using a shotgun properly is similar to baseball or tennis, the gun becomes part of your body and you watch the target, not the gun.

Reports are that Trump has backed down from most all the pro-gun control measures he said he wanted.

I guess this is where we withhold “final applauses” even after giving him effusive praise for just words.

How would they defend their students against a shooter? Throw books at him?

That's OK. He's still banning bump stocks via executive order.

I bet he'll also sign the Fix-NICS/Reciprocity combo if the Senate passes it (the House already has).

He gets lots of applause from me.

@edgarblythe,
Teacher pensions are one the reasons so many states struggle. They are paid enough.

@coldjoint,
I would agree that there should be a transition from pensions to matched-401k contributions, but in no sane world are teachers paid enough.

Six figure salaries are not enough? My son's mother in law makes that teaching high school.
