Poverty often leads to violence and killings in a society.

That's one of the reasons why I agree with the Democrats on having a strong social safety net.

Woman opens fire on family of 6 heading to vacation in road-rage attack, MO cops say

Quote:

A family of six came under fire along a stretch of Missouri highway last week while on their way to vacation, and a 22-year-old mother is accused of pulling the trigger.

According to police, the family from Tennessee was heading to Kansas City on I-55 in their Nissan Pathfinder on Friday when a Ford Focus started tailgating the SUV. The Pathfinder driver braked to tell the Focus to slow down or go around, KMOV reported.

The Focus sped up, got next to the Pathfinder, and the passenger, Shanyka Fouche, pulled out a gun and began shooting, police told KMOV.

Bullets flew into the cabin of the family’s Pathfinder, striking the dad in his hip, KSDK reported. One round also hit a tire, popping it, the station reported. No one else was hurt, and the dad is expected to recover.

The car sped off, but the oldest of the couple’s children, ranging from 2 to 11 years old, managed to memorize the car’s plate number, KTVI reported. Police were able to track the vehicle and pulled it over about an hour later.

“As he was getting shot at he thinks enough to look at the license plate and memorizes the license plate of the car which enabled us to use On Star,” Pevely Police Chief Alan Eickhoff told the TV station. “He is actually the hero of this incident.”

When officers arrested Fouche, they found two small children in the car, including a 2-year-old, outlets report.

According to KSDK, the 2-year-old is Fouche’s child.

Fouche is facing 10 charges, including assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and armed criminal action, the outlet reported.

She is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.

This is a good reason to use dashcams. They can record license plates even when people don't manage to remember them.

@hightor,
I get the sense that the media might be planning to launch a campaign of virtue signaling nonsense.

Last night 60 Minutes reran their bogus documentary about AR-15s.

@MontereyJack,
I love facts. You are the one who hates facts.

The eyewitnesses and doctors lied. The "scientific tests" were fraudulent. That's why I disregard them.

@oralloy,
Not to put too fine a point on it but I don't think the witnesses and doctors and the tests we could see with our own eyes were the liars here. Who does that leave as the liar

They showed the power disparity that any long gun has over any handgun, but they falsely portrayed it as the AR-15 being unusually deadly.

In reality wounds from other long guns are just as deadly as wounds from an AR-15. The only reason why the AR-15 is deadlier than handguns is because all long guns are deadlier than handguns.

Um, this ideologically motivated person apparently missed the point, which was to compare the deadliness of two popular calibers used in two popular firearms. Handguns like the 9mm are commonly used for civilian self-defense and by police, where the main goal is to stop an attacker. The 5.56 NATO used in the AR-15 was developed to meet the requirements of CONARC for a new military rifle, the goal being to seriously incapacitate or kill enemy soldiers. The .223 used in some versions of the AR-15 is very similar in design and performance and is designed to kill, not wound, small and medium-sized game.

No, I got the point. Didn't you see where I directly addressed that point by denouncing it as outright fraud?

I would not have directly addressed the point had I not gotten it.

The AR-15 chambered in 5.56 has exactly the same common uses.

The 9mm was developed for use against enemy soldiers too.

Most long guns can fire rounds that are designed to kill some sort of game.

What was fraudulent about the ballistic gel demonstrations? Even you agree that 5.56 is more deadly that 9 mm.

Police carry sidearms. Yes, rifles and shotguns are part of their arsenal but not normally carried on the street.

But it was adopted by police departments to replace the underpowered .38.

Pistols were also issued to officers for possible use against their own troops:

They were also effective and quick to fire if an officer had to quell a mutiny among their own troops.

They used the disparity in power between long guns and handguns to misrepresent the AR-15 as being an unusually dangerous weapon.

Only in the sense that long guns are more deadly than handguns.

The police should have long guns easily accessible in their squad cars.

They chose to compare those two firearms because of their current popularity. For people who know little of ballistics the effect of the 5.56 does make it "unusually" dangerous. And, in a practical sense, the small lightweight gun fitted with a recoil-reducing stock and an extended magazine is more dangerous than a classic hunting rifle with more power because of the ease which the AR-15 can be stowed, carried, and deployed.

But more people are killed with handguns.

Most departments follow that practice. State troopers as well. Part of the rationale for this is that criminals are using more powerful weapons. What was that famous shootout in California where the two criminals completely outgunned the police department? That was one of the catalysts for rearming municipal police departments.
