@MontereyJack,
Just to put it in perspective our last school shooting was Dunblane. 13th March 1996, after that the law was changed to ensure it couldn't happen again.

Your point is?

School shootings don't equate to someone entering a school for the express purpose of killing as many kids as possible. From 1840 to last February, there have been 533 shootings on school property. Of those shootings, seven of them actually met the criteria for being an instance of someone deliberately out to kill as many people as possible. In other words, that kind of shooing is a rare event which is being used to justify banning guns.

You want to ban all guns?

Here is list of the school shootings for the last 20 years.

Buell Elementary School in 2000: Six year old shoots female classmate. Before shooting her, he said he didn't like her. She had rebuffed him the day before when he tried to kiss her.

Beach High School in 2000: Shooting was outside of a school, and neither the shooter nor the two victims attended the school.

Lake Worth Florida in 2000: On last day of school, shooter was sent home for throwing water balloon. Returned with handgun and shot teacher who sent him home.

Lake Clifton Eastern High School: 2001: Seventeen year old student shot with handgun while standing next to flagpole. It was a drive-by shooting.
Santana High School in 2001: Bullied shooter kills two students.

Lew Wallace High School in 2001: seventeen year old shooter kills one student. Police chief said it was a one on one shooting.

John McDonogh High School in 2003: Student shot by two men. Shooting was the result of a vendetta.

Red Lion Junior High in 2003: Student shoots junior high school principal and then kills himself.

Rocori High Schools in 2003: Student shoots two classmates because one victim had bullied him about his acne. The other victim was shot accidentally. The shooter then emptied the bullets from his gun and dropped it to the floor.

Campbell County High School in 2005: Student kills principal and two principal assistants with handgun.

Essex Elementary School in 2006: A 27 year old man shoots a teacher in revenge for an earlier incident.

Platte Canyon High School in 2006: A 53 year old man kills a student and then kills himself.

Weston School in 2006: Student shoots principal with a handgun.
West Nickel Amish School in 2006: A man enters a one-room school house and shoots five students, and then kills himself.

Virginia Tech in 2007: A senior student kills 32 students with handguns.
Louisiana Tech College in 2008: Female student kills two female students and then kills herself.

Nothern Illinois University in 2008: Graduate student kills five students and then kills himself.

Dillard High School in 2008: Female student kills a female student because of unrequited love.

Discovery Middle School in 2010: Student kills another student.

AL College Campus in 2010: Biology professor kills 3 people after being denied tenure.

Ohio State University in 2010: Forty-eight year old building services manager kills other manager and then kills himself.

Millard South High School in 2011: Student kills assistant principal and then kills himself.

Worthing High School in 2011: One student shot outside school. Police believe it to be gang-related.

San Jose State University in 2011: Three people killed in a double murder/suicide in a garage area.

Virginia Tech Parking Lot in 2011: Shooter kills police officer at traffic stop in school parking lot, and then kills himself.

Chardon High School in 2012: Student kills 3 students.
Episcopal High School in 2012: Fired teacher kills Head of School and then kills himself.

Christian School in 2012: Forty-three year old shooter kills seven.
Santa Monica College in 2013: Thirty year old man on shooting rampage chased by police to college campus where he killed one student.
Marysville Pilchuck High School in 2014: Student kills four classmates and then kills himself.

Umpqua Community College in 2015: Twenty-six year old kills 8 students and an assistant professor.

Rancho Tehama Reserve in 2017: Shooter choosing targets at random opened fire in a rural Northern California town Tuesday, killing four people at several sites and wounding others at an elementary school before police shot him dead.

Aztec High School Shooting in 2017: Twenty-one year old former student kills two students and then kills himself.

@Glennn,
See, you already had that information at your fingertips just so you could give some spurious explanation why.

Just one shooting is too much, and if you weren't lacking in humanity you'd see that.

Yeah, let's look at some of those:

School resource officer Dana Jackson, assigned to Snyder High School, was cleaning his service weapon when it discharged. No injuries were reported. Jackson was removed from his assignment at the school.

Two men were involved in an altercation on the campus of Florida International University when one of the men pulled out a gun and fired into the air. Both men were detained, and no injuries were reported.

A former student at the Mississippi University for Women was shot and injured, causing a multi-hour lockdown and a search for a gunman. Police stated they were investigating whether the wound was self-inflicted. No one has been detained in relation to the crime.

Seventeen-year-old Mohammad Othman was fatally shot in the parking lot of Central Elementary School. Police believe the shooter had a connection to Othman, but neither the shooter nor Othman had a relation to the elementary school.

A man involved in a custody battle arrived at Cascade Middle School and became enraged. As he was being escorted from the school by police, he began struggling and pulled a gun, according to authorities. The man was shot and killed by the officers. No one else was injured.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the head, and a 15-year-old boy was also injured, in a possible robbery incident in a parking lot of Lakewood Middle School in Overland Park, Kansas. The school was not in session at the time. Both victims are expected to recover.

A man running on the Miller Grove High School track saw someone trying to break into his car, which was parked on school property. When the man confronted the person breaking into his car, he was shot once. The man was taken to a local hospital and listed in stable condition.

That was the first seven on your list. They do not resemble anything like the "oh my god, the children are being slaughtered as we speak" scenario that is being used to justify banning guns. I'll get to the others later.

Yeah, but the best way to deal with people who've bought into the propaganda is to have them look it up themselves. Then they can't call you a liar.

Well then we simply must ban alcohol since a lot of people in prison are there because they shot someone while under the influence; not to mention killing lots and lots of people with their cars.

No, they're not acceptable. That's why the shooter will be put away in prison.

@Glennn,
It's not propaganda, it's a fact, you've had more mass shootings this year than you've had days. The school shootings are particularly upsetting.

What you're doing is callous, inhumane and quite disgusting. You're refusing to look at the true scale of the problem by ignoring mass shootings and looking at other, non mass, shootings in schools, just so you can pretend that the problem is being exaggerated when the opposite is true. That's why you kept telling people to look up school shootings because you knew the first few didn't involve multiple homicides.

Your pronouncements on drink driving are really stupid. Drink driving is going down. while in America mass shootings are going up.

That's a trend you do find acceptable because you don't want to do anything about it. Locking up a single perpetrator does not address the increase in mass shootings, it does nothing.

The only way to stop it is to change the law.

Smallpox doesn't simply switch to killing with a different weapon if you prevent deaths from smallpox.

But year after year people die from gunshots, not from bombs or knives or smallpox in any sort of similar numbers.

Why does it matter that the deaths come from guns and not from bombs or knives?

Because year after year after year the deaths come most from guns not knives or bombs,, despite the fact that bombs and knives are available. You deal with what is happening, not something that hypothetically might. That's called dealing with reality. You should try it sometime.

That does not explain why it matters that people are killed with guns instead of with other weapons.

Your failure to point out a single thing that I'm wrong about speaks for itself.

I did not offer an opinion.

Had I offered an opinion, that opinion would not have required support, as opinions do not require support.

I did not offer the Soup Nazi clip as a citation for anything, so there shouldn't be any problem with the fact that it does not count as a citation.

How did they ensure that it couldent happen again? If some gun nut decides he wants to kill someone is almost impossible to stop them without help from the citizenry.

Oh but isn't one death too many? Or don't you subscribe to that philosophy?

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, about 88,000 people die from alcohol-related causes each year, making alcohol the fourth-leading preventable cause of death in America. By comparison, guns are far less dangerous. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence reports less than 33,000 people die each year from gun violence, and of those, nearly 20,000 are suicides. That means alcohol is more than twice as deadly as guns in the United States and 650 percent more deadly if suicides are excluded from the comparison.

What matters is that people ARE killed. And despite other methods of killing being available, guns are year after year the preferred method of preventable killing. You go after the obvious problem. Duh. Which doesn't mean yhou ignore other methods of killing. You work on preventing them too. Double duh.
