Police say there are "multiple fatalities" after a shooting at a bar in Thousand Oaks, California.

Reports say the shooting began at about 23:20 local time on Wednesday at the Borderline Bar and Grill about 40 miles (65km) north-west of Los Angeles.

Officials have confirmed the suspect is now dead, and have said there were at least 11 victims in the attack.

At least 200 people were reportedly inside the bar attending a college country music night at the time.

"When deputies arrived they heard shots being fired, it was an active shooter situation," Ventura County Sheriff's office spokesman Eric Buschow said.

"They entered the location and I can tell you there are multiple fatalities, multiple injuries, among the victims is one of our sheriff's deputies that responded in that initial call, as well as the shooter."

It's time to quit being sensitive to the pleas of gun nuts and enact some meaningful gun legislation. If it means over their cold dead bodies, whose fault would that be?

@oralloy,
Another 12 people dead in California from a guy who was, according to oralloy's criteria. simply a civil rights activist exercising his second amendment rights to have a gun for self-defense. According to a news report, 17 NRA supporters lost their seats in the midterms. About damned time. Thank you Parkland survivors.

We should probably get some meaningful free speech and free press legislation too. CNN has got to go. Those fuckers have crossed the line too many times and need to be shut down!

@edgarblythe,
He used a .45 handgun, what "meaningful gun legislation" do you propose? The extended mags he used were already illegal under CA law.

@McGentrix,
If you meant that to be satirical, if did not work. If you were serious, you have crossed the constitutional line.

@Baldimo,
Outlawing semi=auto guns would be a start.

So all semi-auto guns, rifles and handguns? You do realize that the vast majority of guns sold in the US are semi-auto, pull the trigger one time and one bullet is shot. Are confiscations part of those laws? How do you balance the 2nd Amendment against such a ban?

In this one case, I have to agree with Baldimo (gosh, did I say that?) Apparently the magazines the gunman used were already illegal. Need to double check that. Perhaps stricter or more aggressive monitoring of illegal purchases online or at gun shows or whereever they obtain extra things to make guns more deadly could be one important issue to look at. Also, from what I read, he sought mental help in the past. So this gunman must have slipped through the cracks. Although, hasn't the NRA and republicans been fighting menatally unbalanced people having their guns taken away? Seems I read that before. Looks like I need to do a lot of googling to continue this post. Might get back later. In any event, I blame our gun happy society in the US.

Barack Obama tried decreeing that a bunch of ordinary people are mentally ill so he could take their guns. Trump put a stop to it.

It had nothing to do with people who are actually mentally ill however.

And actually, disabled war vets are still being denied their rights under that outrageous policy. Trump only restored the rights of civilians.

You do realize that you are advocating outlawing every gun in the country, don't you?
Is that what you truly want?
