@Olivier5,
No doubt the answer to such increase in gun related deaths is to flood the market with more guns. If everyone had a firearm, then there wouldn't be so many less firearm deaths.
Because, the drug crazed people that have to break in to support their habit, knows everyone has a firearm, so they must carry a firearm to protect themselves. And if they don't have one, well, they just have to steal one, and as every house has one, that's not a problem.
And this way, when a crazed gunman comes to your school shooting it up, you can pull the rifle off your shoulder and stop him, cause every sensible person carries one over their shoulder. After all, pistols don't go up against longarms well. Still, shooting one handed with a handgun is incredibly difficult, especially under an adrenalin dump. Hope no bystanders are around, whether you're defending yourself from a car, from a school room, shopping mall, or anywhere else.
If you're at home, you can take the time to pull your handgun from your safe...cause you don't want your child to find it and start playing with it...oops
But in any event, you want a body worn holster. That way, when you get into a bar fight, the fellow won't want to mess with you...so long as he doesn't accidentally get his hands on your firearm while you are both rolling around on the ground.
And if someone starts shooting at you while you're in your car...well, the rifle in the boot will do you wonders...unless you have both a rifle and a handgun on you.
Mind you, if they surprise you, which will be most of the time (as the first person to decide to use a gun usually will have the element of surprise for the vast majority of cases) well you're screwed, cause trigger pull takes a split second, while just reaching for your firearm takes much longer.
Maybe you get surprised because misjudge a person, cause goodness knows, you wouldn't want to pull a firearm for someone just being angry with you...
In any event, we see the obvious deterence factor of having more guns in the US than people. So it would be even safer with more.
