Homicides using guns up 31 percent, CDC finds
Maggie Fox, Jul 27th 2018 7:59PM

The number of homicides committed using guns has gone up by nearly a third nationwide in recent years, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC found a 31 percent increase in homicides involving firearms from 2014 to 2016. In 2014, 11,008 homicides involved a gun. The number rose to 14,415 by 2016, the CDC team said.

I thought that CDC was "relieved" of its duties for providing data on annual and regional gun deaths in the US?? Its good to see they apparently didnt give a **** about what congress said

@Olivier5,
No doubt the answer to such increase in gun related deaths is to flood the market with more guns. If everyone had a firearm, then there wouldn't be so many less firearm deaths.

Because, the drug crazed people that have to break in to support their habit, knows everyone has a firearm, so they must carry a firearm to protect themselves. And if they don't have one, well, they just have to steal one, and as every house has one, that's not a problem.

And this way, when a crazed gunman comes to your school shooting it up, you can pull the rifle off your shoulder and stop him, cause every sensible person carries one over their shoulder. After all, pistols don't go up against longarms well. Still, shooting one handed with a handgun is incredibly difficult, especially under an adrenalin dump. Hope no bystanders are around, whether you're defending yourself from a car, from a school room, shopping mall, or anywhere else.

If you're at home, you can take the time to pull your handgun from your safe...cause you don't want your child to find it and start playing with it...oops

But in any event, you want a body worn holster. That way, when you get into a bar fight, the fellow won't want to mess with you...so long as he doesn't accidentally get his hands on your firearm while you are both rolling around on the ground.

And if someone starts shooting at you while you're in your car...well, the rifle in the boot will do you wonders...unless you have both a rifle and a handgun on you.

Mind you, if they surprise you, which will be most of the time (as the first person to decide to use a gun usually will have the element of surprise for the vast majority of cases) well you're screwed, cause trigger pull takes a split second, while just reaching for your firearm takes much longer.

Maybe you get surprised because misjudge a person, cause goodness knows, you wouldn't want to pull a firearm for someone just being angry with you...

In any event, we see the obvious deterence factor of having more guns in the US than people. So it would be even safer with more.

@vikorr,
And the blacks and latinos should arm themselves against the whites... No wonder where this is going.

Would those people be less dead if they'd been killed with knives?

I don't know off hand if this was an illegal study.

If it was an illegal study, people should be fired.

My answer was to just shrug and ask Olivier if those people would have been better off being killed with a knife.

@farmerman,
Having our government agencies comply with the law instead of misusing government funds to concoct illicit anti-freedom propaganda would hardly make us a banana republic.

Most homicides are single killings. Massacres are a different subject from the study that you cited.

He only says that because he has no argument. The disingenuous answers about Trump belie the fact he has nothing but rhetoric to repeat over and over. "Banana Republic" is a buzzword used by the same people who see Killary free and clear when she is a proven criminal reprieved by people who abused their power like in the banana republic, to do that, and so they gripe about what they have already done. Hypocrites and just plain liars.

@coldjoint,
The Dickey Amendment stripped the CDC of including gun death data into its annual summary of mortality causes and rates in the US. That was put in merely as a political favor by the GOP Congress that hates the free dissemination of information for all to read . If that aint banana republic politics, you guys havent been outta your counties.

Congress was considering resumption of collection of gun death data this yar. Do you think the NRA is still pulling its strings?.
What other reasons could Congress have in mind to stop the collection and analyses of gun death data? Could there possibly be a good reason??

Political favors make us a banana republic? I guess we have been a banana republic since our inception. Your reasoning is flawed and your rhetoric is tiresome.

Why should our tax dollars be spent producing anti-freedom propaganda?

Yes. The supposed data is nothing but anti-freedom propaganda.

@farmerman,
Another problem with it is, the CDC is supposed to be busy protecting us from diseases.

Diverting their energy into concocting anti-freedom propaganda could mean our deaths from an otherwise-preventable pandemic that the CDC was too distracted to notice until it was too late to stop.
