This is a2k, we don't always deliver the words that are ordered. Let's not get behind this idea that we are obligated to tell people what they want to hear.

We are not obligated to listen to any opinions we don't want to hear either.

@hawkeye10,
Hawkeye: I don't know what Chai's problem (intolerance) with you is, but I've seen a few of your threads on other topics and I'd say this is the first I've seen where you and I agree.

Hawkeye: so we agree and your comment is well put.

My seeming negativity of advice (while Chai does notn agree) is rooted in caring and reality. These financial times are unprecedented and are deepening nitro a Depression. This is no time to relocate. Onion should learn to deal with the adversity where he is...without Selling drugs. This is not the answer. What will he do in podunk OH if things are adverse there?

The approximate funds ...say $300-$500 ... that Onion would burn up resettling in a podunk OH farm town would be better spent taking a vocational course where he lives or somewhere more local that doesn't require a huge expensive move.

It's all fine and good to offer a troubled young man advice ..it's another thing helping him resolve his broken decision making process.

Go for it OG. You need a change of scenery. Why not rent a car and drive? I hate stuffing a dog in an airplane belly. They can be damaged for life by the experience.
If Ohio doesn't work out head east for New York.

If a job doesn't surface,-contact the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association about an apprenticeship or internship. Most situations offer room, board, a little money and are fine with dogs that don't chase chickens:

@Green Witch,
I like the driving idea -- gas adds up but you could take Route 66 and see a lot of cool stuff.

http://www.historic66.com/

(Doesn't actually exist as Route 66 anymore but you can follow it anyway via other roads.)

Would your dog hate being cooped up for a long time, or do you need to be there by a certain time?

I do agree with making backup plans and protecting yourself as much as you can. Like, you say you have a job already -- anything in writing?

That doesn't mean I think you shouldn't do it though. And there's way too much dissing of Columbus on this thread! I really like Columbus. It's an hour and 40 minutes away from Caldwell, evidently, and while that's not nothing it's a pretty straight shot (77 N, 70 W) and there is plenty to do up here if you get bored.

@Ragman,
I think it boils down to you and I trying to mentor a troubled young man towards making improvements in how he operates, and the women who have nothing to say other than "follow your dreams". Don't get me wrong, I believe in the power of positive thinking, but OG has a history that must be taken into consideration.

Most of the views I share at a2k tweak the majority. I don't wish to join a club, I want to explore differences and learn from others, to test my beliefs. We all come to a2k for different reasons. What I am getting at is that I would be surprised to find anyone who does agree with me on a wide range of issues. I appreciate both our agreement here as as much as I do our disagreements on Israel and about personal relationship dynamics.

I cant stay in las vegas, even if i find a job, ill end up selling meth and coke, coke price is up alot cuz the mexican drug war and the shift in the market to the UK and europe.

and now i know heroine addicts.

i wont have a moral moment twice. im extricating myself from the situation.

any of you naysayers been to Vegas lately?

a good friend just got back and said it was freaky weird and empty...

Onion will have an opportunity to prove himself in a more rural environment, and hard work pays off in small town America.

I have no doubt if he FOCUSES on what is going down, he can make this a great opportunity.

Onion, Ima send you some info by e-mail tomorrow on some folks might be able to help you find some work near there. (keep in touch...)

you Will need to get wheels pronto.

@OGIONIK,
GO FOR IT , OGI !

what can possibly go wrong for a healthy young person willing to work ?

when we came to canada more than 50 years ago , i didn't have a job lined up .
had been a "junior accountant" in germany and wasn't used to much manual labour .
there was no demand for a "junior accountant" when we landed in this city .
so i took a job with a construction company as a general labourer and "tool shed keeper" .
lugged plenty of heavy stuff around - dog tired every evening - but a paycheque every thursday - did that for about three months .
when winter was about to arrive and construction work would cease , i looked for an "indoor job" - which i found - it paid much less than the construction job , but i worked indoors during the winter .

the rest is history!

i'll repeat : GO FOR IT , OGI !
work - work at anything - but work !

@OGIONIK,
I didn't tell you stay in Vegas. I wouldn't tell anyone to stay in that glitter dive.

Look on Craigslist to share a ride to Ohio, or rent a car and find someone to share expenses,

i'm sure any state tourist office will be happy to supply you with roadmaps etc. free of charge .
who knows , you may find a more interesting place along the way than ohio .
