@ossobuco,
Sort of the opposite story, a guy who was our lab dishwasher/jokester was one of the group of students whose efforts effected a shutdown of ucla.
Now an eminent physician.
Not quite the same deal as Shining Path, though.

@fbaezer,
Palling around with terrorists, huh? Hey, hey! That's more like it! Just what this campaign needed...a good shot of controversy!

It's working for Obama...I'm sure we can make it work for you too, Pancho. I'll leak this to the McCain camp first thing tomorrow. Meanwhile, you get those extra phone lines installed, up the security, and clear your schedule for Wednesday morning. We'll call an "emergency" press conference then. Send me a draft of your press statement as soon as you've written it, 'k? (Wow...a candidate who can write his own script. Ha! John and Barack's staffs will be pea green with envy! Perhaps some of them will want to join us...anybody in particular you think we should go for?)

@Eva,
fbaezer

How is your campaign actually progressing? We, in the southern hemisphere, are in the dark!

There seems to be something of a lapse from fb headquarters on your progress in the polls!

November 4th is but a hop, step & a jump away, ya know! Time to pull out all the stops! (Any new promises (bribes)? Wink )

I was making myself the same question.

@fbaezer,
ALERT!

The McCain camp has started another round of robocalls, accusing Baez of being an illegal alien. Further, they suggest Baez may be involved with drug trafficking (aren't they all?)

How do you want to handle this?

I have never ever entered the US illegally, or overstayed my visa.
Yes, I have smoked AND inhaled (pot); no, I have never sold or trafficked with any illegal drug.
And, unlike the McCain, I tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

@fbaezer,
All those hypocrites who continue to support McCain/Palin lies are themselves part and parcel of the destroyers of common sense. Their rhetoric incites violence and hatred that destroys the very fabric of our country.

I'd rather see it go underground where it belongs. They're all afraid to be open in public except at the McCain/Palin rallies. Shameful bigots all.

As for the draft for the press conference:

Don't you know about the 6 degrees of separation theory? In this case it was one degree. So what.
That was a casual pal meeting 35 years ago.
On an aside, the guy was a good chess player, but terribly clumsy trying to conquer girls. Once he was in swing for hours, with an American girl we met in Acapulco and all of us said: "Wow!". Suddenly, he came to me, all angry, and yelled: "Pancho, you speak English well. Explain to this dunce the concept of co-governance!".
Co-governance is... (and I go on and explain it to the press)

Do you think this sort of statement will work?

@fbaezer,
I'd skip the co-governance part. Too serious for a sound bite, when the key points are that he understood chess and was.. clumsy with girls. Tell that, and then burst out laughing.

Y-y-you're gonna tell the TRUTH??? Shocked

Uh, that's really admirable, Pancho. But...how is that supposed to work?

Good point. I think it will work.

Voters CAN handle the truth. Unlike some opponent I will not name, I'm not like Jack Nicholson in that movie.

Have we spoken about the platform?
No.
Then it doesn't matter if we tell the truth.

Has it ever been about anything else?

Gary Hart had a heart for too many.
Bob Dole couldn't dance the Macarena.
Ted Kennedy drawned at Chippaquidick (sp?).
Ross Perot spoke too fast and had way too much money.

Kennedy had Camelot.
LBJ had a Great Society.
Nixon was not a crook (wait... that's not the line)... Nixon stood up and fought even after defeat.
Jerry Ford was as American as apple pie.
Jimmy Carter was just a peanut raiser in Georgia, your normal folk and everybody thought it was funny when he said "eyetalians".
Reagan was the Great Communicator.
Bush Sr. was the mastermind behind the Great Communicator.
Clinton was the Comeback Kid next door.
GWB... it beats me why he won. The exception to the rule.

Do we actually remember their platforms?

@fbaezer,
I remember Occom Bill posted something a while back about how Americans always elect the "most likable" candidate. If that's the case in this election, you'll win by a landslide.

OK, so...no platform. I can live with that. But at the very least, we need a good slogan.

@Eva,
Yes platform, but we ain't going public about it. We must gather all the votes we can.

Think of slogans, people!

Rockhead's on the go. We need a few more, and a nice discussion over this sort of truly relevant campaign things.
