@Joe Nation,
Yum! Those will make nice sandwiches and salads.

(I say yum because I know what they are, but in fact my screen is quite dark and to me it looks like something you might scoop from the bottom of a pond. Tomorrow, at work, I will say Yum! and mean it.)

Enjoy them thar dirt-free vegies.

It seems nobody has problems here anymore. I'll give you something to crack your brains about. What should we call our new project in Kosovo? It's to increase quality of history education, come up with new textbooks that are inclusive and that teach people to think rather than tell them what to think. I'm afraid we ran out of all cliches - "Bridging histories...building bridges.... history in action.....blah blah blah". I want something short, telling, catching, fun, different..... you know.

@dagmaraka,
So nothing about blowing up bridges, either?

"Kosovo awareness" perhaps.

Oy Joe Nation, that doesn't look too appetizing. What's happening now -
replanting, eating?

I bet you come up with something.

Seriously mega kudos if you are really serious about teaching people to think instead of what to think. When you get that accomplished in Kosovo, please implement your project here in the USA. I am sick of education that indoctrinates instead of educates and we need to turn that around soon before we lose another generation of kids.

@dagmaraka,

Tell you what. History (perception of past deeds and misdeeds) is bound to be the main problem in Kosovo.

Why not call it "Yesterday and Today" to bring it up to date? (history-lite, and looking forward)?

@McTag,
or even.. Looking Forward
Nah..
Maybe just Forward. Forward Ho? No. Moving Ahead?

I can see a word like Dialogues..

Too bad I've only been able to understand the word Dialectic for seconds at a time. But that has some past connotations.

Connections?

Ha! I think I like "It Isn't Your Grandfather's History Anymore" the best...but not sure what our Kosovo team will think.

yes, teaching people how to think, especially within history education, is a big part of what my organization stands for (and why i'm there) i would say more but i must sleep, very urgently so.

In between trying to keep my dentist from killing me and working out for free at a new gym, I tried thinking about this.
Of course, S.E. Hinton's title kept coming up, That was then, this is now., you could steal uh, use that without infringing I think. OR That was Them, Here We Are. -- but, I don't like it so much.
The Past and Now
What the Past Once Was

How We See Each Other Now.

Once, Before All That Other.

Hmm, dialogues, connections - those are always good.

Perhaps even the simple "How We See Each Other Now" - might be the way. I'll take this list to the team and we'll storm our brains.

I stormed my brain last night at a birthday party, wish I could take it out, and soak it in bucket of lukewarm water like tired feet. that would be nice.

Dag: I am so honored that you would put your question (BrainWhacker!) here.

I am trying to deal with ignoring certain Christmas songs (because they cause me to weep) YOU are trying to deal with the remembered injuries of millions over hundreds of years.

It's a little like trying to compare a votive candle to a forest fire.

@Joe Nation,
when i feel worst, i read books related to cambodia or rwanda genocide, holocaust, whathaveyou.... in a weird way, it helps me keep my feet on the ground and not get too immersed in misery :-)

it's probably not healthy, but eh.

@dagmaraka,
Reserve me just ninety minutes of your time in the city, an hour even, just enough time for a sip of something to celebrate the New Year.
