I just did a search to try to find something about Sharpton in connection with that quote and didn't find anything. (Not saying there isn't anything, but didn't find anything. If you can point to a cite, cool.)
Though Roxxxanne makes a good point that Sharpton isn't a surrogate, either.

I had no particular interest in engaging in conversation the individual who made the comment that Obama was exploiting race. My interest was in challenging the veracity of the assertion. I'd have challenged it no matter who said it.

Other than that, no. And I too would like to hear someone try to present a plausible argument to the contrary.
("Bobby Kennedy was assassinated..." was an ill-conceived not so subtle reminder that Obama is black. One of many. So far, despite catching flack each time she does it, the bigots have responded sufficiently to result in a temporary net gain, politically. Rather shortsighted if you ask me.)
Sen. Obama is a US citizen, that is "bi-racial"; not the same as us Blacks, who are descended from chattel slaves, until 1863, then kept in slavery, through Jim Crow, until 1965! Oh yes, I KNOW the history of this sad nation, having lived it for the past 63 years, as a woman of color!

How can you exploit race, when he is "self-defined" Black! Black by choice! He can say rightfully, I am HALF-African, HALF-Caucasian, which isn't the same as African-American! African-Americans are descendants of the Africans brought over in 1619, at Jamestown, Va. as indentured servants and then legislation passed, so that their descendants be indentured, "perpetually", as in FOREVER! Barry Barack Obama's mother was a Caucasian woman that married a West African man; big difference! Sen.
