Thanks for that, Butrflynet. I must have missed it at Huff Post. Excellent.

The confused little f*** has called me a lot worse than that.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! That coming from someone who got their dick cut off, considers themselves a lesbian, and buys strap on dildoes to replace the now missing appendage. And it supports Obama! Change is good, eh Roxx????

Folks say the same thing, but one group is "looney" and the other is "fiery." Interesting.

The Obama crowd's jumping on this flap like a starving dog on roadkill is quite a spectacle.

Do you ever have anything but straw men? Your inability to come up with anything but logical fallacies is the spectacle.
This is a perfectly valid point that only you seem to be having trouble getting. A logical fallacy it is not.

Depends on which of Finn's two points you're talking about. "The Obama crowd's jumping on this flap like a starving dog on roadkill" could be argued is a straw man. I mean, just look at this forum alone. The "Obama crowd" has been pretty nuanced about it. Both Soz and Snood, for example, came back on their initial reaction, and others never saw the outrage in the first place.

I've seen plenty of rather over the top reactions in reader comments on news stories etc, but there's also been enough Obama sympathisers urging against jumping into outrage.

Point 1 is spot on. Point 2 may be a colorful metaphor, but a Strawman it is not. Finn in no way attempted to re-paint anyone's argument in a weaker form in order to disprove it. Not every exaggeration is a Strawman.

Nice column from Eugene Robinson:

http://www.washingtonpost.com//wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/26/AR2008052601743.html

Quote:
Clinton has poured more than $11 million of her own money into the campaign, with no guarantee of ever getting it back. She has changed slogans and themes the way Obama changes his ties. She has been the first major-party presidential candidate in memory to tout her appeal to white voters. She has abandoned any pretense of consistency, inventing new rationales for continuing her candidacy and new yardsticks for measuring its success whenever the old rationales and yardsticks begin to favor Obama.

It could be that any presidential campaign requires a measure of blind faith. But there's a difference between having faith in a dream and being lost in a delusion. The former suggests inner strength; the latter, an inner meltdown.

That's okay by me. It can be just be your little secret that you have no basis whatsoever for saying that Obama is exploiting race. But if you were gonna keep it secret, maybe you shouldn't have stated it for everyone to see.

I have now read over a hundred responses from Obama supporters. The overwhelming consensus is that this was an unfortunate and not deliberate remark although many have pointed out that Hillary has played the "assassination card" several times. Considering the possible implication, it is a word that should never be uttered by a presidential. It is simply inexcusable that she made that remark assuming it was an unintended gaffe (as I believe) and it's even worse if it were intentional.

If it's unintentional, she has a really bad tin ear for what's horribly inappropriate to say. If it's intentional, she's got a hole in her soul and she shouldn't be in high office.

we'll let kicky be the judge of that since it's him I'm continuing the discussion with. Your opinion is as valuable to me as mine is to you. Why must we even talk?

TO THE REST OF THE POSTERS ON THIS THREAD:

(Laughing I know- its juvenile...)

I had no particular interest in engaging in conversation the individual who made the comment that Obama was exploiting race. My interest was in challenging the veracity of the assertion. I'd have challenged it no matter who said it.

Does anyone else think that Obama has exploited race in his campaign?

In the current campaign the race baiting was begun by Obama's surrogates... when Al "Notso" Sharpton accused Clinton of racism because she pointed out that the '64 Voting Rights Act would not have passed without LBJ's efforts.

Al Sharpton?

Do you mean James (Still Neutral) Clyburn?

I just did a search to try to find something about Sharpton in connection with that quote and didn't find anything. (Not saying there isn't anything, but didn't find anything. If you can point to a cite, cool.)

Though Roxxxanne makes a good point that Sharpton isn't a surrogate, either.

I echo that sentiment and I felt as the Clintons felt at that time and then they brought in the Clowns; Bush & Cheney, the embarrassment of an entire nation. That said, it gave the Clintons no right to think that they were the only game in town! No, it wasn't alright for them to be ostracized, but it serves this country right, for the mistake in the WH, now! UGH, to ALL Republicans, if THAT was your answer to the Clintons! Twisted Evil
