I'm rather fond of a turn of the century New Yorker who preached on the street under the name of Elijah the Tishbite.

Well, I'd tend to agree about Roe. And certainly about the standing of federal law. I'm getting a real bean up my schnozz about the federal government accruing power. Roe was sloppy, well-intentioned, a mirror of the times.

I think this is an area (federal overreaching) in which conservatives and liberals could find common ground, if they could just keep their knees from jerking.

Wow. Well, if that isn't exactly what just happened, I'll be a monkey's uncle. Cool Nice to find some common ground. Now, try not to move around too much, as this is a pretty small parcel of land we're both standing on.

Nor I. The fellow just made the word up soaring close to heaven on some private internal epiphany. I was recently in the southern US and the cab driver who picked me up at the airport had got us no further than about 300 yards when it became clear I was in for bible class. Satan, he helpfully informed me, was the most beautiful of all the angels (actually, I already knew this) and he was (before his present gig as the world's first and meanest disgruntled former employee) the leader of the orchestra in heaven. Neither of us had to mention popular music at this point, that was simply understood.

I gotta say it seems to me we all take ourselves, and each other, way too seriously sometimes Laughing

"When the security of this nation is threatened, Congress and the American people give the president great latitude. We probably have given this president more flexibility, more latitude, more range, unquestioned, than any president since FDR -- probably too much. Congress, in my opinion, really abrogated much of its responsibility."

--Sen. Chuck Hagel

A Republican said that?!?

Quote:
"The arrogance of Republicans on Capitol Hill is finally starting to catch up with them...This is happening partly because moderate, and even conservative, Republicans are increasingly standing up to President Bush. Why now, you ask? Because of both their own approaching elections and Bush's falling poll numbers. Republicans are realizing that what plays well in Washington might not be popular back home...

Congress
With few exceptions our so called representatives are on the par with used car sales persons. This country has not been a Democracy for well over 30 years. It is a Plutocracy. The Govt. Admin and the Congress are facilitators for the Multi-Corps. The Republicans are merely more obvious about it.

Chuck Hagel -- the same smart Republican who had connections with the new voting machine designer/manufacturer. Hmmm. Now what was that story...

Yes, Pistoff, we're in trouble. Much more serious trouble than discussions in A2K want to deal with... so far.

There's a valid observation ... however, it applies not to The US, or to The World, but to The Democrat Activists who are leading their party into oblivion.

Well, is that not the desire of the Republican activists? There is, after all, only one true version of Americanism, so better only one voice forever dominant.
