What did you dream last night?

At a huge coliseum in NYC. Got lost. Kept trying to call people but calls wouldn't go through. I'm feeling a bit anxious about a business situation these days and that's been reflected in my dreams of late. Frustration.

Tried to whitewash a fence, but the wash was diluted and ineffective.

Visited either Washington state or right over the border in Canada.

When we got there, was told by my husband we were going to move there. We were miles in the country and were miles from even a small town.

I became very upset, asking what were we going to do with our house, what kind of job would I get, how would I drive to work in the snow?

Just on the edge of sleep seems to be the right time for me to catch my dreams.

I began imagining that I was walking down the subway passage when suddenly I was dreaming... the walls turned to red brick and I was moving very fast and was soon out in the open country flying just over the tree tops along a curving road. There were houses in the distance but before I could see more the dream vanished.

I opened the door of the linen cabinet and found a swan, fast asleep on her nest with her head tucked under her wing.

It wasn't my linen closet--my towels aren't white.

It must have been the turkey or the martini. (I only had one.)

I'm reading Vanity Fair and the ads, which are sexy enough in real life, were getting raunchier and raunchier as I turned the pages though interestingly enough they never got pornographic.

They were beautiful layouts of people doing what come naturally but nothing really was exposed. So odd.

Then I noticed that it was a German Vanity Fair. !?!

I looked up and I was in some kind of restaurant but no one would take my order so I got up to leave but I met the actress who played the publisher of the Washington Post on tv. She said she would show me how to order so I went back in but first I wanted to wash my hands.

I went through the door for the the bathroom but I ended up in a grassy field with scattered trees. At two separate trees there were two men each of them peeing. So I picked out a tree and

I was supposed to be on a long training run (which I have not been doing in real life) up to Mohawk Park in Tulsa and then over to a friend's house (which in real life is a lake cabin at Grand Lake, about 80 miles away) but there is no actual running in the dream, just talk.

(Who says dreams aren't like real life?)

Anyway, suddenly I am at the lake cabin, very tired, I lay down on one of the beds and Rudy, a doberman owned by another friend of mine, a sweet sweet gigantic dog of tiny tiny smartness, comes in and lays his head on the bed near my face.

I had a dream in the dream that Rudy was really some kind of dinosaur.

A few nights ago I dreamed that the city of Boston was renaming all of its major landmarks after Red Sox players. The Longfellow Bridge was going to be named after Josh Beckett but apparently that required a vote by the legislature (I can't recall if I was watching a debate or anything like that). But it was smooth sailing to change the name of the running path by the Esplanade and name it after Jonathan Papelbon.

The Papelbon Path.

well, i dreamed i saw the knights in armor come
sayin' something about a queen
there were children singin' and drummers drumming
the archer split the tree
there was a fanfare blowin' to the sun
that floated on the breeze
look at mother nature on the run in the nineteen seventies
look at mother nature on the run in two thousand and three...

i was lying in a burned out basement
with a full moon in my eyes
i was hopin' for a replacement
when the sun burst through the sky
there was a band playing in my head
and i felt like getting high
thinkin' about what a friend had said,
i was hopin' it was a lie
thinkin' about what a friend had said,
i was hopin' it was a lie

well, i dreamed i saw the silver spaceships flying
in the yellow haze of the sun
there were children crying and colors flying
all around the chosen ones
all in a dream, all in a dream
the loading had begun
flyin' mother nature's silver seed
to a new home in the sun
flyin' mother nature's silver seed
to a new home...

well, i dreamed i saw the knights in armor come
sayin' something about a queen
there were children singin' and drummers drumming
the archer split the tree
there was a fanfare blowin' to the sun
that floated on the breeze

I dreamed about a snobby nurse from the hospital where my mother is a patient.
I don't like this nurse so I don't know why she was in my dream
but she was .... she was walking down a long corridor far away from everyone else .... but I saw her.

I have no idea what that means. Confused

There was a group of people at a house and they were all excited about the "Five Lectures" I was going to give at five different locations near the house.
I was supposed to be helping to pick out the five locations. We all went outside to look at the backyard. It was a big house that was an expanded version of one I lived in once a long time ago. (My second wife's parent's house while they were in Iran.)
It struck me during the look at the backyard that I didn't remember what the five lectures were supposed to be about and I asked someone. They handed me a couple of pieces of paper on which I could see my handwriting but I couldn't read any of the notes.

The group went to go look at a spot in the woods behind the house.

Do you ever have serial dreams? Not cereal dreams, like the ones I used to have where Tony the Tiger was stalking me, but I digress...I mean serial dreams, where you pick up the dream the next night or two where it left off, and continue the dream?

Joe, if you do, and IF you can read the handwriting the next time, and IF it includes any notes comparing Villa Philbrook to Frank Lloyd Wright's 1920s residential designs, would you please pass those notes on to me?

And not in a dream, please?

I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

Tony the Tiger, eh?

Then he turned to me and said
"How was it for you?"
and I said
"GRRRRREAT!"

I did know someone who was plagued by a serial dream, really a repetitive nightmare where she would go through a door and then go through a series of falls and places full of loud noises. (She said she was always surprised that her bed partners never heard the banging and clanging.
--- Anyway, our therapist (yes, this is a tale from a long ago group session) worked with her, having her quietly imagine the door and saying "I've already been through there, where else shall I go?"( It was kind of a meditation designed to change the pattern.)

It took several sessions and some work by her just before she fell asleep, but she was finally able to get her mind to take her to the door and then go on to other places.
That was also the therapist who (yes, I've had several. I used to say if I had three hands I could count them all.) taught us to say, just before sleeping, "Dreams: I will remember you tonight."

So last night I was on a bus in India or Pakistan, one or the other, I know that because the driver was a Sikh. The bus was military green and very old and cranky and the road we were on was very narrow as we went through some grassy mountainous territory. At one point the road ends and the driver starts to head down a steep slope and all the people on the bus are yelling and saying "No.!! No!! but he keeps going then turns to the right onto a very narrow strip of grass that he slowly drives across to a flatter sandier place. Then we went on.

Frank Wright's son said to me one time, he said, you know I once asked my dad to compare Villa Philbrook to his residential designs and he said "Son, Villa Philbrook looks like a man's house, all that the other stuff looks like the boxes and crates that house came in."

Yeah, it must've been a dream. I can't imagine Frank Lloyd "Can-You-Say-Control-Freak" Wright ever praising any of Edward Beuhler Delk's buildings in real life. "Damned derivative crap," I can almost hear him say.

Ooh, that gives me an idea...lemme write something down.

OK, I'm back, Tony. Love that fur, love those muscles...mmm. What's that you say? You knew Frank Lloyd Wright? You helped him pick his color schemes? Well yes, actually that does explain a lot.

'Scuse me. Tony and I are going to go work on my lecture now.

(In my dreams....)

On Thursday night/Friday morning I dreamed I was walking in a featureless landscape. The footing was solid, but I was reminded of the monotony of the tops of clouds.

I came to a small ravine with green grass and a very energetic brook and sat down to rest. Someone came up from behind and immobilized me while the fingernails on both hands were cut very, very short leaving the fingertips without protection.

I thought, "I'll never be able to hold on now," and woke up.

Last night my first project was to grow those fingernails back.
