What did you dream last night?

I had one of those "variation on a theme" dreams last night.

The jist of these dreams is that I'm running on a trail of someplace that I really love.
Strange thing is, none of these are places I've ever been to in this life.

Actually there were 2 dreams, the first morphed into the 2nd, and then there was one of those flashback to the first dream that woke me up.

In the first part, this guy I knew for real while working in a nursing home (Irving Woodhouse) was trying to kill me. He was wheelchair bound, and had some kind of palsy, and was retarded to boot. In the dream, it was like he was faking all this, and when we were alone, he would run forward and try to strangle me.
I could never run fast enough to get in my car, and even if I could, I think he still would have gotten at me.
So, I had to either kill him, or kick him in the head, or something like that. Can't remember.
I never really liked Irving. He was a manipulative pain in the ass.

After I lost Irving, I was visiting someplace where the main attraction was waterfalls, like Niagara Falls, but completely different.
I was running around there, then took a quick flying boat tour and met some nice people.
Then, I realized I better get back across the river to where my husband was, because it was getting dark.
I started running over a bridge, trying to stay behind a group of 3 or 4 guys running in front of me, because it was getting dark fast, and there were no lights.
They were running too fast, so I ended up keeping close to the railing, where I could touch it, and run through the now foggy dark landscape.

Then, I heard someone running behind me, and at the last moment of my dream he reached out and poked me on the top of my shoulders with his index fingers. I woke myself up by yelling something like "ARGhddHHGG!"

******* irving woodhouse.

@chai2,
Last night I dreamed that I was sitting waiting for someone again, but I heard someone singing a song behind me and in the dream I knew the song but I can't remember what the song is now - but I turned around to see who was singing and it was Carol, the methodist minister in the village and her daughter. I smiled at them and said, 'I know that song' and we started singing it together - then I fell asleep (in the dream) and when I woke up I was still sitting in my seat, but it was on the outside of an airplane - the seat was sitting on the wing - I looked through the window into the inside of the plane and smiled and waved at Carol and her daughter who were still there and then as I buckled my seat belt I thought - 'Can this be right? Can I really be expected to sit out here - won't I get cold?' but I still wasn't really that worried and shrugged and buckled my seat belt.

Well then the plane started taxiing for the runway to take off and it finally hit me - 'I'm not supposed to be going anywhere - I'm supposed to be waiting for someone here and they'll never find me if I go wherever this plane is going,' so I knocked on the window and asked Carol to tell the flight attendant to tell the pilot to stop so I could get off. The plane was still taxiing slowly when I woke up.

Last night I kept ending up in a warehouse basement filled with food. Lots of vegetables and tomatoes on shelf after shelf, something kept telling me that the reason these weren't upstairs at the market was that they were not ripe or ready yet, but I spotted several heads of broccoli that looked like they were about to yellow.
This dream started and stopped several times but I always ended up in the basement.
The last time I discovered there was a momma cats and some kittens. "Ah, kittens" I said. but these kittens were kind of wild and one of them grabbed onto my right hand with it's claws (luckily I was wearing a cotton gloves) and it wouldn't let go. I shook my arm but it held on and held on. I was trying to get the glove off of my hand when I awoke.

(Note: just before sleeping, I had ordered my groceries to be delivered Friday afternoon and I had to throw out one pack of salad which had gone bad.)

@Joe Nation,
This is from a few days ago so my memory is even more disjointed than the dream actually was, but I dreamt of making a website (which I'm doing IRL) with a database of homeless people (not what I'm doing IRL). This involved cross-referencing who liked whom, e. g. did John like Mary, did Alice and Mary get along, etc. I have no idea what the purpose was.

Crazy fuckin' dreams last night.

Frogs. Frogs carrying sliced, oozing red strawberries up the facade of a cinder block wall. Just hundreds of frogs and strawberries.

Am I going to die today?

@emshae,
A lot nicer than what I did in my dreams last night.

I dreamt that my BFF and I were moving in together (we have never IRL been roomies) and we were packing. I finished long before she did and didn't even wait around. I just hopped in a taxi (with my stuff, I suppose) and was being driven to wherever we were going to live.

I then realized this was wrong and I either called her or just magically heard her, and she was crying, really sobbing. I told the taxi driver to turn around even though I didn't have the money to pay for another ride or anything. I got back there and told the cabbie to wait. My BFF wasn't any further along with her packing but in order to get her to stop crying I promised to pay for the cab (which still had the meter running during this epic packing job) and for her cab and God only knows what else.

Woke up not too long after that.

@jespah,
I was in what in my memory of the dream was an old house in the eastern US, maybe one that was used as a studio or gallery, lots of brown wood.. with art all over the place, on tables, on the floor, and the walls. There was a buyer to review the art, this guy in a suit, and it seems I was promoting it, whatever the paintings were. Oh, look, here's another one..

I got on an elevator with some people. I realized that they had two or three dogs with them, all the pooches had been shaved in various areas to control their mange. And there was one old woman that the others were assisting in some way. That's when I saw the smoking cigarette.

It was another older woman (probably my age) who was smoking and I told her to put it out. She did - in an overflowing ashtray that was on a kind of bar--(Dreams have big elevators). I asked her what apartment she lived in, that I was with the Board (Hmm. The dream building didn't really look like my building)

She wouldn't tell me so I said I was going to get a policeman to arrest her for trespassing and got off the elevator. I thought I would watch to see what floor she got off on.

AH. the top floor.

I took the elevator, which had speedily returned up to the top, but when the door opened instead of the 7Th floor hallway, I saw a kind of steep stairs up to the roof. I went up the stairs, through the open doorway catching a glimpse of the woman ahead of me.

That's when I realized I was on the top of the World Trade Center Tower.
(I had been up there many times IRL)

The dream immediately ended.

That's unsettling, Joe.

I watched ominous black clouds in the horizon be blown away, revealing a clear sky. Hope that's an omen. It's been a bit cloudy around here lately.

I was standing by my bedroom window when a parrot landed on the ledge. I carefully slid the screen open and it came in and let me pet it. I picked it and went into the kitchen where I turned the faucet on just a little and the parrot took a drink, just like my cats used to do in real life.
I sat down on the sofa with it in my arms and it nuzzled me and said "I'm tired." then it went to sleep.

@Joe Nation,
Joe, you are the caretaker of Falcons (virtually), not parrots. But, perhaps your mind preferred the brighter colors to represent you better. You are a bright spot in every day.

@squinney,
Nightmare turned in on itself.

I was at house that resembled my grandmothers house and my mother, grandmother and a few others were there. A couple of old family friends had died and were being stored temporarily in two of the bathrooms in grandma's house. A bit creepy.

At one point I needed to take a shower because I had to go to work, but I was not going to shower with a dead person in the bathroom so I kept asking my mom (who lived there) "Where am I supposed to shower" She was drunk and kept mouthing off about what a horrible person I was yadda yadda. I hauled off and put a fist right into her throat that made her instantly unconsious. (I have never hit anyone in real life ever!) Crap! So I take her in my arms and I try to revive her. It takes several moments but she finally comes around. Phew.

A friend of mine is there and sees all of this and commiserates with me that I had good reason to hit my mom. :/

A very short time later I decide I am going to go into a nearby room to get ready for work. When I go into the room, I suddenly feel very chilled so that goose bumps cover my arms. Unable to speak from fear, I show my mother the bumps on my arm. At that moment, an etheral ghost swirls around the room of which I am the only one to see and feel it.

The next moment, I find I myself AM the ghost and a bit of a trouble maker as well. Everytime someone alive would come near me, I would hover upwards and away from them, eventually floating out over the neighborhood, even though I could not do anything to the people I saw, I relished in the act of knocking down decrept building steeples, knocking storage boxes and other items off of shelves and just generally creating a mess whereever I went.

@mm25075,
Last night I dreamed that my daughter - who loves cats- had five (exactly) cats that she's been keeping out in the garage while I'm home and that she brings them into the house between 4 pm when she gets home from school and 6 when I get home from work and that she then rehides them somewhere before I get home.

My couch smells a little funny and since I've done home visits in a lot of my jobs - I know what a house with cats smells like - and I keep thinking, 'This smells like a house where cats live,' in real life. Well, I dreamed that and it all clicked and I woke up and I thought- OLIVIA=cats in my house when I'm not here.

It took me a minute or two to remember it was probably just a dream and that my daughter wasn't clandestinely keeping cats in my house in all actuality.

I was showing a rather large (about a dozen people) group around town

There was this section of downtown (not real) where I was planning on showing them this big art deco museum, where you climbed to the top, and came out on a platform. The big surprise was once you looked around, you'd realize you were standing on the head of a 1/4 size model of the statue of liberty, all in pink and white. From there, you could either, slide, climb or take an elevator down, or get into a monorail that would take you across the river

Across from this was a collection of gourmet restaurants, where you sat in one area, and everyone could order from a different place.

Chris Tucker was being a real pain. He didn't want to go into the museum, even though I told him there would be a great surprise. When we got to the restaurant area, I was seated next to Ellen Degenerese, and she turned out to be a really unfriendly person. I had been trying to joke with her, and she asked me why she thought she could talk to me like that. Then, she got up and followed a friend of mine into the rest room. He was saying "I really need to be alone for a few minutes, you know what I mean?" but she didn't care and went in there and kept flushing the toilets while he tried to take care of business.
There were some really great desert places there, but Kelsey Grammar took over and herded everyone into this place where it wasn't even like deserts, more like sweet bread. I said to Betty White that I wanted to get something really chocolatey, so the 2 of us took off on our own.

In recent weeks, I have frequently had vivid dreams about waking up---usually in compromising and embarrassing settings.

Exhibit 1: I wake up in a dark bedroom that isn't mine. In a distance, I hear churchbells ringing 1 AM. They sound real, not out-of-a-synthesizer, so I can't be in New Jersey. Next, I hear a key in the apartment's door, followed by two German voices. (Ha! I was right I'm not in New Jersey!) The voices belong to my BFFF (Best Female Friend Forever) from Munich, and some unknown man. They're both giggling, flirting, and sounding tipsy. Evidently she just picked him up at a party and invited him to her place. I know she'll want to have sex with him now---in the bed I'm laying in, having just woken up there. Now what?

Exhibit 2: I wake up on a couch because a woman in a business dress is shaking my shoulder. "Mr. <MyLastName>, you're next!" Rubbing my eyes, I realize it's the secretary of the HR executive at <SomeBigCompany>. I just woke up on the waiting sofa outside his office, where I'm "next" for a job interview with him. Because I just woke up, I'm unshaven, unwashed, and cranky because I haven't had coffee yet. And because a major heatwave is sweeping New Jersey, I've slept naked but I'm sweaty nevertheless. What in Murphy's name can I say to save this job interview?

Perhaps the meanest thing about these dreams is that they seem absolutely real. I half-remember the dream I just 'woke up' from, because it's what I actually did dream until ten minutes ago. I'm unshaven and unwashed in my dream because I actually am---when I touch my cheek, I feel the real stubbles. And so, even though I've already been through at least five similar dreams, I still fall for the next one every fܩ!ing time. Maybe throwing it out here will help.

@Thomas,
If a woman in a business dress woke me up saying "You're next" I would probably gulp and resign myself to my fate.
