Well, at least we're living in the right part of the country.
Where do all the neurotics live?

A paper produced by, perhaps, UGA?

They authors seem to be from Cambridge (the other one) and U Toronto.

I have no idea what conclusion to draw from that.

Sure. Look how it provides conversational fodder to your family and friends.

The article did say we neurotics tend to be more innovated and creative.

Interesting, George.
Last night I was in a school setting also. I dreamt I was back in college again. I was in a very nice coed dorm and there was a great room and also a small kitchen where everyone took turns cooking. I'd enrolled late so by the time I was assigned a dorm room, someone else had put their clothes in my closet. I lived with it for a few days until finally I stood in the middle of the hallway and demanded to know who was Selita Smith? She was the owner of the clothes in my closet. I don't know a Selita Smith and have no idea why the name was so vivid. To the point where I still remember it.

I remember standing out on a balcony overlooking the campus but somehow I knew that I didn't attend that particular school and it didn't occur to me until, when telling my husband about the dream, that it was very close to my reality thirty-plus years ago. When I attended Parsons in New York, from my dorm room window I could see NYU's campus across Washington Square Park.

So, George has the teacher's version of the student's dream. (I've had this one. Have you?) Where the person finds themself in a class about to take a test and has no idea what class it is.

I've been having long dream lately but have been too exhausted (or something) to remember much of them.

There was a Hadasic couple in a room and I was supposed to be doing something for them while my wife slept outside in the yard on bench under a tree.

I used to have the student's version too Joe - all the time- but I haven't had it in a really long time. And it's not only that I can't remember how to find the classroom - it's that I realize as I'm rushing through the empty halls that I've never BEEN to the classroom and the knowledge that I'm about to take a final in a class that I've not attended all year floods over me like a wave of panic.

Of course when I wake up I always wonder why do I even continue trying to find the classroom - why don't I just skip the test, taken an F and take the class again the next year- but my dream self is much less logical than my waking self.

Last night I dreamed that I was brushing my sister's hair. But it wasn't like her hair at all (except in color- auburn) it was straight and shiny and long (down to her waist- hers is curly and shoulder length). It was a nice dream.

Very weird, it must have been a sibilant night. I dreamed I was at some huge family gathering, trying to leave but two women, one middle-aged and the other very elderly kept talking and talking. I wanted to gather up my pics and leave but could not. Finally I think RP got me away from there, the scene shifted and we were watching the dancing at the party. The dancing involved mainly my (female) cousin J. and her trampy friend Sally (who doesn't look like anyone I know). As in, Sally would be lifted up by her armpits by some guy and her dress would ride all the way up and you'd see she was, oof, not wearing any underwear. Shocked

The scene shifted and we were in the TV room -- still at the party -- and there were all of these VHS boxes. J. said that Sally had been in a movie. We found it in the collection. On the cover was a pic of Sally from the shoulders up and the star of the film was Solista Shaw. Solista Shaw was apparently Sally's real full name.

It was about then that I woke up.

It has nothing to do with Sybil. Smile

I was thinking about my brother yesterday. He was one of many priests who got to meet the Pope a few days back, but I haven't heard from him about it yet.

Anyway, in the dream, I was talking to some people who were, obvious to me, believers and I was explaining to them why I thought so many priests fail to live up to their vocation. (I think one had been found to be a drinker and a thief of church funds.) I said "When you are eight or nine and you decide to be a priest, you look forward to your life, then thirty or forty years later, you wake up one morning and realize that you have been alone every night and every morning." and I burst out crying.

I was in a committee room getting more and more exasperated with a group of people who wanted to built a pontoon bridge between San Francisco and Australia.

I kept pointing out the that the model bridge kept drifting apart in the very benign climate of the water table.

No one would listen.

And, I thought MY nightlife was vivd! You all have had some doozies.

Last night I dreamt Bear and I were going somewhere in a car. We were on a mountain road. I saw a snake (regular) on the road. It was a rattle snake. A bit further down the road I saw a snake (big) curled up on the side of the road. It freaked me out.

A few minutes later we got out to see something at an overlook. When we started back to the car there was a snake in the road. HUGE!! HUMONGOUS!! GIGANTIC!! SNAKE!

I was scared shitless, thinking OMG, there are snakes EVERYWHERE I turn. Snakes in the grass, snakes in the road, snakes EVERYWHERE!

Through my fear I snuck up on the HUGE snake in the road and grabbed it right behind the head and squeezed real tight. He was as big around as me, so I had to use both hands and maneuver him to a headlock. He struggled back. He almost got loose, and had he done so would have eaten me. I hit him in the head with a brick (thank god for bricks from nowhere) and he started to bleed. I hit him again. He lost some fight, but continued to move. I hit him in the head with the brick again and blood was everywhere. I left the brick on his head to weight him down (oh, yea, like that would work!) and went to call for help.

When the emergency / police / animal people arrived they couldn't believe I had killed such a HUGE snake. They said this kind can get to between 36 and 56 feet long and this one was even longer than that.

I woke up scared. Watched some Comedy Central (The Hebrew Hammer?) and drifted back off.

I dreamed I had just moved into a new apartment. For some reason, I hadn't actually been to my room yet but had an armload of clothes I had just washed in the building's laundry room. There was apparently no elevator, and the stairs only went up a couple of floors. I couldn't find a way to get to my floor. There were lots of people around, some of whom were people I knew in real life, but none could or would tell me how to get to my floor, and sometimes laughed at me. In my wanderings I discovered a giant robotic Paul Bunyan in the basement and on another floor found a gift shop where I bought a doll of an old man (not Santa) wearing a Santa Claus hat. I finally decided to hide in a corner and watch to see how other residents got to higher floors. I don't think I ever found my apartment.

squinney, i looked up what dreaming about snakes might mean... i like dream dictionnaries. Here's one explnation that I thought was most comprehensive.

Snake

In some cultures snakes are highly regarded and symbolize the ability to transcend into higher levels of consciousness or into areas of knowledge that exist outside perceived time and space. In the pre-Christian days, snakes were considered symbols of fertility, healing, and nurturing (the healing serpent representing a god). Post Adam and Eve, snakes are often considered symbols of temptation and evil, anger, and envy. Snakes emerging out of the ground may represent your unconscious or repressed materials coming to your conscious mind. Freud thought that the snake was a phallic symbol. It is amazing how many people have snake dreams! Most snake dreams seem to be disturbing and they leave the dreamer feeling anxious and afraid. There are no simple interpretations to the snake dreams. Each dreamer must consider their own situation and all of the details of the dream. Sometimes snakes may be phallic symbols and other times they represent negativity in our lives that hampers our progress and constantly threatens us. In the long run the snake may be a positive symbol; it may represent difficulties that lead us to the center of personality and result in feelings of completeness.

Very cool, Dag. Thanks for the info.

The funny thing is that in real life there is NO WAY I would have been anywhere near any of the snakes, let alone wrestle one to death thats over 56 feet long! In the dream I was scared, but did it anyway.

Equus - I guess if you're gonna be "lost" it's good to have other people around and a change of clothes.
