SURPRISE!!!!!!!!! OK, that's good enough. If everyone will excuse me, I'm about to go out and walk around the house and scream/howl, but for different reasons altogether.

What makes this even a more amazing event is that Sargent Shriver was there to celebrate Ahnold's win. Surprises never seems to cease.......

Cicerone- You do know that Shriver is Maria's father, don't you?

Do you think he would show disrespect to his daughter by not showing up to her husband's victory party?

and

yes, Bustamante is the Lieutenant Governor and the legislature is mainly Democratic but I am sure that Arnold has already practiced the line--

"People of California- I want to serve you by putting the state in order but, as you can see, the Democrats wont let me."

"I will, however, use my veto on legislation like the car tax, dear people".

We shall see.

I felt so angry last night because I do have a great love for California. I lived there in the 70's before they passed Proposition 13, which in my mind was the beginning of the real problems for the state. My family no longer lives there...and we had planned a trip up Highway One next summer to Washington State where One leaves the coast and goes inward as I-5. I love that route...we did that a about 15 yrs ago and ate salmon almost everyday. The northern California coast through Oregon is breathtaking. I could do that without thinking about the politics.

Sure you could. That has nothing to do with politics, just the beautiful nature of the area.

That is probably why he mentioned it.

yeah i am really impressed with how California has replaced a political hack with a buffoon. the only thing i find interesting in the CA recall was that the conservative republicans had a viable, intelligent and articulate candidate in Tom McClintock, the dems had no viable candidate as an alternative and many from both sides of the political arena voted in a new govenor who, at best, will do no more damage than has already been done. On the positive side Prop 54 died a glorious death.

It's sure to our election official's credit that the election went so smoothly -- even the ballot I used was counted last night! Bustamante had some strong rhetoric regarding how he would deal with Ahnold. Can he create a California Utopia? A lot of it will be cooperation from the White House who have previously had a hands-off policy towards the energy problem. Funny thing, yesterday the gallery electricity went off for about a half hour! Laughing

The car tax has to be repealed by the legislature or by voter referendum as far as I know. That and the illegal alien drivers license did not help Davis. You are right about Davis being a political hack, dys, but the boastful Ahnold may have to tune in and tone down his persona to deal with the California legislature. McClintock will be poised to pounce on Ahnold every time he strays away from pet conservative policies.

Despite being a dyed-in-the-wool dem and fierce liberal, I couldn't see Davis as much of a prize. This is the guy who had to prominently mention that his was a family of faith yesterday and go to church on a Tuesday. Sheesh. Give me a break.

Arnold is a social liberal and a fiscal conservative -- he'd never make it in the current Republican line-up of faith-based social conservatives who aren't above cutting civil liberties, being liberal only in their spending of governemental money on war and oil exploration. Those Repubs who say they like Arnold are kidding themselves, trying to hop on a bandwagon that passed them by.

Cali got what they've wanted -- Fantasyland throughout the state.

LW, What I found so irritating was Bustamante's ads on t.v. claiming "I did this, and I did that!"

What was welcome news was the fact that Bustamante lost most of the Hispanic vote. Wink

Did you notice how much Maria was looking like Jackie? That dress! The hair. The smile.

Fantasy Camelot... with an Austrian body builder & an American princess. Maybe he will try to remain in character and make everybody happy. At this point Californians don't have much choice. It will continue to be interesting to watch, I guess.

I wish that there was a comparison of population totals to voting totals. Those 70% plus counties to the east -- who lives & votes there? Is that 70% of 23% of the voters who voted mostly with absentee ballots?
