lol. Luckily, they don't have to deal with me very often.

If I was a stripper, I'd probably call myself a bitch. Go figure.

I have. Very intelligent, imaginative, kind, and smart. Stuck in hard times, for sure. But no, not an addict. (And no, I didnt see her perform.)

In the different category, I knew a girl who worked as an escort too, she was the best friend of my best friend. Intelligent enough (they met when studying at university), and quite happy with where her life was. Ended up meeting this guy she got serious with, they basically reconstructed a house together for months, in some small town, kind of cute.

Never be too quick to judge. Things are rarely what they seem.

As for marrying, well a prostitute no, never. A stripper, depends. On a lot of things. But then so does any relationship.

I've known one very popular Boston stripper, who married and had one child. As far as I know, her marriage was not affected by her taking her clothes off on stage.

Stripping isn't in the same league as prostitution, which in some areas is legal, as is stripping ( by the way ).

This stripper also put herself through Emerson college to get a BA degree and then she went on to graduate school for a graduate degree.

She was smart as hell and certainly knew men.

And when it comes to sex performers, things are rarely opposite the stereotype.

It's only one guy's analysis, but if you've ever heard Dr. Drew speak of it(he was on Love Line with Adam Corolla), strippers and whores usually hate men, which stems from childhood issues. It becomes a power thing.

I've met enough strippers, and been to enough strip clubs to give my opinion every single one I've conversed with were completely broken. OBVIOUSLY there's an exception to every rule.

I disagree. Strippers make very good money. I've known at least two that were very intelligent and were college students. I met one recently that spoke 5 languages. Of course, I'm sure there are some crack whores and meth heads as well...

There were a couple strippers that I went to college with. I still converse with one over email here and there. This one's definitely not intelligent, even though she has a degree.

I've never met a stripper that had a f'n brain, or wasn't completely broken. Women who strip & prostitute themselves most likely have been sexually abused, ignored by their fathers, and are coke heads.

I used to know a sex worker who is a registered nurse. She'd spend two days a week doing volunteer work with autistic children.

IS this also true of male prostitutes and male strippers?

99% of strippers are stereotypical, IMO. Most strippers don't stop at dancing, and will (and do) go above and beyond for a few extra bucks (insert, Champagne Room). They have little knowledge of the world outside of being a sex object and even less self respect.

But there are a few working their way through school just dancing and fully intend on quitting the minute they graduate. Or the single mom just doing it to get ahead.

Real life is not Demi Moore in Striptease.

Personally, even if they are book stupid, I think they are hella smart for taking advantage of the landslide of cash from the men who frequent the clubs.

In your opinion, as you say. Do you have any evidence to substantiate the opinion?

Just the strippers I've known...and those that other people I know have known. Could be the area I live in. But I doubt that. More than one man I've known has commented and told stories about the strip clubs they've visited or the strippers that have come to parties, etc. And more than one (yes I know some pigs) have either slept with the strippers or gone beyond the "no touch" rule.

And perhaps I should have made it more clear that this is a US perspective.

I can't speak at all about those in the sex industry in other countries.

By the way, I have nothing against strippers and if that's what they want to do, more power to them.

That's what women's lib is all about...the choice to be a CEO or a stripper.

Well, it seems that as of this thread, you also now know people who've known strippers who are not "stereotypical" - Noddy, NickFun, me, Miller..

Does that mean that next time, you wont say this, or do you really think that we have all just happened upon that elusive 1%?

Well, you don't live in the US so you don't count (not in that way, just in knowing strippers since I also pointed out this was a US observation)

And yes, 1% of the US is a fair amount of people so it's possible. Not to mention that 99% in the way I used it is not a scientific number but one stating that most (not all) are that way. IMO. Or rather should I say, my experience.

I think it's pretty obvious Europe has a much different perspective on sex workers vs. the US. I could see more normal women stripping there. I'd still bank that the majority are head cases there too though.

I can only go by my personal experience. Me, I've never met a stripper/dancer whatever you want to call them that was particularly bright, or particularly pleasant to be around. I'm not going to argue there aren't some Rhodes scholars out there who strip, or aren't going through nursing school, or can speak 4 languages. I'm not going to put a percentage on anything, like only 1% or it's 50/50 or whatever. Basically, they were all broken in some way. Some worse than others, but to be honest, it was just a matter of time.

I don't know why someone has to automatically jump in and proclaim the intelligence of these women. In my opinion, it's a sad life, you're nothing but wank material, and if you were that intelligent, you'd realize that and find another profession.

Let's face it, the term "dancer" does the word discredit. They get paid to give men erections, and frankly, I don't find that all that honorable a profession.

Whoever said something about finding strippers "highly intelligent" probably never spent more than 5 minutes talking to one, and frankly is most likely talking out his a$$.

When I first read this thread, I was thinking about those that were saying they knew strippers and was wondering "yeah, how well did you know them?" It's easy to say you know a person of a particular profession, when in truth, you more like aquaintences. None of the strippers I met were friends, I had more contact with some then others.

Stripper 1 - A suitemate in the dorms at college. She lied to her parents and told them she had a part time job that was making her so tired her grades were poor. To be honest, she really wasn't that smart to begin with, but her late hours weren't helping....eventually she took up with some "old" guy (must have been in his mid 50's) who became her sugar daddy. The rest of us girls found that appalling, all we could picture was our fathers doing something like that. She was extremely superficial and money oriented.

Stripper 2 - The roommate of my then best friend - he was a gay guy andd they both wanted a roommate of the opposite sex with no involvement.....She was suspicious of everyone and everything and had a real "I don't give a damn" attitude toward life. She was into coke and in the year I knew her was starting to look pretty rough.

Stripper 3 - One of your single moms...man, that really eats my lunch. One day, this kid is going to realize what his/her mother does or used to do, and have to live with the taunts once friends find out. I believe earning your living that way is putting 2 strikes against your child from the get go. It does matter.
My roommate babysat the little girl while mom worked. Sometimes at her place, sometimes at ours. The little girl was well behaved, but honestly, there was something haunted about her. Mom did have several different boyfriends coming and going. Also, it seemed to me she was already sexualizing her daughter....wearing belly chains and, well, just other articles of clothing that was disturbing to see on a 3 year old. This woman was very, very tired.

Stripper 4 - A wacked out prostitute. Trying to stay off drugs. Was hooking as well as stripping. I wouldn't have touched her with a 10 foot pole if I was a guy. Chain smoking, nails bitten to the quick, poor english.

I agree with mushies....it's very sad. Miller asked "what do you think they think when they see you....?" Well, I think they see someone who doesn't have to go to work tonight getting leered at and have dollars stuck into my crotch.

I would imagine after a very short time having to deal with that would make me feel like a piece of ****.

I don't know every stripper, but those are the ones I've known.
