Sglass, georgeob lives in San Francisco, and Cyclo lives in Berkeley. I'm sure they will try to be there as their schedules permit. My schedule is a little bit more flexible, but as I've mentioned earlier on this thread, I prefer times other than commute hours, because I have to drive in from Sunnyvale which is 40 miles south of the city.
If you can provide us with the date and time of arrival, your hotel name and address, and provide us through PMs with your "real" names and cell phone number (if you have one), or the hotel's telephone number, we can begin to look at plans for some get-togethers. It would also be helpful if you let us know the number of days you will be available, any preference for side trips, and what your interests are.
I'm happy to see the two of you providing us with dates, because some others might be interested in coming at the same time.
You also have my thanks for getting it started.
Don't forget the Fillmore; Union Street; North Beach; Chestnut Street and the Marina. Lots of variety and good places at each.
Hi georgeob, Glad you stopped by to see what's going on. There are so many choices in the City, it's difficult to pick only a few places, but I wanted to get those creative juices flowing from now on to attract more people. We still don't have "definite" dates of arrival and/or departure yet, so it's still "up in the air."
I guess we'll just have to "wait and see" what transpires between "now and then."
Please drop by every few days if just to say "hello." Any suggestions on interesting sites, restaurants, clubs, and or bars will be greatly appreciated.
Looking in....good morning, everybody......thanks for posting this interesting info, c.i. and georgeob.
I'm thinking now that there may be "two" gatherings in San Francisco this year; August and September. I don't mind thaat at all, because that will provide enough flexibility to schedules so I can take people on outings outside of San Francisco on different days.
I'll post them in my log as a first come, first serve basis. Also, I'm sure everybody will not be interested in the same venues, and some of the trips will be an all day event. If the event is down south, such as to Monterey (Bay Aquarium) and/or Carmel (lots of art galleries), I'll expect people to take the train down to Sunnyvale - as Thomas did when he was here two years ago - and I'll fetch you and drop you off at the Sunnyvale train station. That'll save me four hours of driving; after all, I ain't getting any younger. When going up north towards Napa-Sonoma wine country, I'll be more than happy to pick up people in San Francisco - after commute hours on workdays. Weekends aren't as bad, so we can schedule going up north a bit earlier.
Monterey & Carmel -- that's interesting too! I once lived there and - a long time ago - was the arm wrestling champion of the Hog's Breath Inn in Carmel. Point Lobos, on the coast just south of Carmel, is a particularly beautiful spot that I suspect visitors would long remember.
Just testing to see if the new photo web site is working on a2k.
Urls have to end in "jpg" or "gif" or whatever to work with the image tags, c.i. - otherwise it doesn't work!
But: at the bottom of that side, you find buttoms which lead to working urls ...
georgeob: "...was the arm wrestling champion of the Hog's Breath Inn in Carmel."
Did you ever meet Clint? In all the times I visited there, I saw him only once. Also saw him in an auditorium in Monterey once while they were preparing for something.
I've seen him several times over the years, there and at other places, and exchanged a few words - but I don't really know him. My transient moment of fame was only among a group of local Carmel misfits.
Hey, everybody, we hit 1,800 on this thread, but no committments on dates - or anything else.
No commitments?
I said I'll attend...
And I know you and George will be there by the time I'll come.
I'd attend, just to finally meet Francis
I'll be here - just to finally meet Jane.
I'm looking forward to meeting Jane too! I met Francis in London, but we're due for another meet. One of these days, I'll have to go to Paris and spend some time. Miss them good museums.
If I'm not mistaken McTag and possibly Chumly are coming as well. I am a bit uncertain about their dates here , but, apart from late July and a couple of weeks in October, can accomodate most times.
Cyclo has been absent from this thread too, and that worries me, because we need a base of people to chaperone/keep company the out of town visitors. Most of us can try to make it to most of the "events," but trying for 100% is going to be difficult if we have only two people as a base to work from.
