You're only kidding yourself if you think i haven't seen the points you're attempting to make.

I've not said that all christians are back-stabbing and evil, i'm just pointing out that far too many religious types attempt to make out that none of those who profess to believe as they do themselves can possibly be evil, because then they truly would not be religious. One of the problems you run into with that, though, is that so much blood has been shed in the name of almost each and every organized religion, that one is lead to conclude that all these religions must be false doctrines, because they fail to prevent the evil that their adherents do get up to.

I've never said that all christians are evil, i've just always been happy to point out how much blood has been shed in the name of religion.

Arella Mae, wouldn't you expect those fruits of the spirit to manifest themselves in physical action as Wandel brought in with James.

I don't disagree with you about that bloodshed. Not to mention the hypocrisy, and the self-aggrandizement, and the pederast priests, and the slimy faux-holy politicos...

We're okay there.

You probably won't believe it, but I have that same conflict (about individuals thinking they have the rules of exclusivity to "heaven") with my very own sister. She thinks she belongs to a select few.

Just curious Snood, and you don't have to answer but is your sister a Calvinist? Does she believe in predestination?

She belongs to a Church of Christ, but there's some distinction (she's tried to explain it to me before, but I really wasn't listening) her church makes between itself and other Churches of Christ.

I've always thought that if there really was a god and people were guided by it, that this would cause the eventual union of religions.....while, alternatively, if there were NO gods, then religions would continue to splinter as times and attitudes change. Guess which one we see !!

That doesn't have to mean there isn't any God.

No, it doesn't. It's just another logical nail in the coffin of the gods.

Augustine said it best "Never judge a philosophy by its abuse"

instead of looking at the evil done by some in the name of christianity, look at the one who founded Christianity. Study Christ's teachings and life...

Christianity is itself a splintering of religion. Just ask the Jews and the Muslims. Christ himself was responsible for that particular split. How many splits have occured since then?

And I'm sure the same thing applies to Islam too right? And Satanists? And Witches?

Islam does not preach violence.
Laveyan Satanism ( The biggest Satanist sect. ) does not preach violence.
Wicca ( The main Witchcrafting religion ) does not preach violence.

Does Islam require all atheists to be killed in a non-violent way? I must have missed that part.

I've never seen a verse in the Koran ( Aren't they called surahs or something? ) that preaches the killing of a nonbeliever. Then again, I don't know alot about the Koran.

Islam Online, a hugely popular Muslim website, contains a fatwa dated 21 March 2004 and ascribed to 'IOL Shariah Researchers' says:

"If a sane person who has reached puberty voluntarily apostatizes from Islam, he deserves to be punished.‏ In such a case, it is obligatory for the caliph (or his representative) to ask him to repent and return to Islam. If he does, it is accepted from him, but if he refuses, he is immediately killed." No one besides the caliph or his representative may kill the apostate. If someone else kills him, the killer is disciplined (for arrogating the caliph's prerogative and encroaching upon his rights, as this is one of his duties).

I wasn't suggesting that they do.

What I was trying to point out is that VERY OFTEN Christian's (and all religions) ".....judge a philosophy by its abuse", and then cry and whine when it is done to them.

i am tired of this same old crap. people constantly look to christians for advice. but it seems almost anything you see today on television or read in magazines is either publicizing events that do not go along with christian beliefs. or they are bashing christians. like the t.v show family guy. it constantly shows Jesus and god in bars. in bed with woman. and shows them acting like thusgs. i ask how long will us christians take this. Mad

Look, religion, individuals, societies, beliefs and views are ALWAYS going to be taken the piss out of. It's human nature. Get use to it.

Oh, C'mon! America!? A Christian Nation?! Absolutely not! I challenge people who say that all of the time.

I do not know them in a percent. You will know Christians by their works (as Jesus and then James said), and as the leaders of Roman soldiers who collected Christians to be slaughtered said, "You will know them by their love."

Matthew 7: 16 (NIV) ~ By their fruit you will recognize them. (NIV)

Fruit of the spirit is not works. Galatians 5:22-23 ~ But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

James 2:24-26
Quote:
You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

I guess I'm missing your point. I was only pointing out that the scripture was actually "by your fruits you shall know them." Did I miss something?

The Church of Christ believes that water baptism is necessary for salvation. They believe it has to be done in a certain way otherwise it isn't effective.

I was wondering about the other because I have run across Calvinists who think they are "so specially chosen" that they can treat anyone who isn't a Calvinist like scum of the earth because no matter what they are saved. It's a confusing doctrine as far as I'm concerned.

Actually Run, I think I just got the point that Wandel was trying to make! And I thank you for pointing it out to me. Yes, I do agree with you there. If we have the fruit of the spirit then, naturally, it would follow that we would have action (works).

Sorry, I misunderstood Wandel!

The split comes in Eorl when man doesn't quite want to accept what God has laid out as right and wrong. So different doctrines come about that allow certain things that actually aren't allowed by God. That's my take on it anyway. Things get changed just a tad to accomodate man.
