Don't worry about it, Squinney. I've been a member of the NRA for decades. They haven't trained me to attack in any fashion.

I'm not sure a precise interpretation wouldn't allow ownership of 105 howitzers.

That's the one about the right of the People to bear arms?

How far could you carry a 105 howitzer?

Thats outrageous. How can they be so petty? I thought America was the land of the free, where everyone owned a machine gun.

Here in the state of Colorado there is no limit on what you can own as long as you have the permit for it. You can even own a silencer as long as you have the permit. 50 Cal machine gun? As long as you have your Class 3 license you can.

Would I go shooting with a civilian model of the M16? Sure I would, I know they are smooth and I know how to shoot one. Would I convert it to full auto? No I wouldn't. It would be a waste of ammo to even shoot it on full auto because it is hard to hit your target, that is why the M16 military version no longer has a fully auto selector switch. Sure for the range full auto could be fun but expensive and I don't have a never ending supply of money.

It's not pettiness, it's recruiting. The FBI must be reckoning that the thugs it screens out will have more fun torturing inmates in places like Abu Gharib. What easier way to find these people and offer them jobs?

In what way? Describe please how any sane person can derive fun or enjoyment from playing with a machine gun? You can get just as much "fun" from breaking up concrete with a jack hammer.

I have heard playing with dolls is fun too, but that doesn't interest me in the least. How about you go play with dolls, and we will go shoot guns. Just try to stay off the range so you don't get hurt.

Steve41oo, joefromchicago, have either of you ever shot a 'assault rifle' or a 'hunting rifle'? How about a shotgun or a pistol?

Would either of you complain if a law was passed making all guns illegal?

This comment is irrelevant. No one here is advocating what you are suggesting.

I notice that McG makes no attempt at a serious answer to my serious question. Probably because he can't.

I once spent an afternoon playing with a shotgun. It was given the impressive sounding name of 'Clay Pigeon Shooting'. The most tedious way to a bruised shoulder ever invented.

So shooting is not for you, so you believe no one else should do it? Typical liberal answer.

Its just the feeling of firing a fully auto gun. If you haven't done it or don't enjoy guns then you wouldn't know what I am talking about.

I'm sure there are things you like doing that I wouldn't have the slightest interest in, but that doesn't mean I would prevent you from doing them, why stop me from doing what I enjoy?

How can questions be irrelevant?

Phuck Off! I'm a liberal and your comment no longer holds water. This president, and his ineptness at foreign policy and securing our country has STRENGTHENED my resolve to own a gun. GWB and his policies made me understand how important it is to protect myself because my government is making my country unsafe. My cities are underfunding the police force, the border is wide open, we're creating millions of enemies across our borders. Conservatism has made me a gun owner.

I know more liberal gun owners than I do conservative ones.

In the same way that comments can be irrelevant. See your response to Steve 41oo's post, above.

Yes I would complain because it would be a silly law. Some people actually need guns. But no one needs a machine gun. If you like guns that much volunteer for the armed services. (But dont actually say you like playing with guns or they wont take you Smile).

As for restricting other people's enjoyment, we had similar arguments here over fox hunting (now illegal though it still goes on). I'm extremely reluctant to curtail anyone's simple pleasures. But I'm not sure firing a machine gun falls into that category. (Same with class A drugs)
