I've fired assault rifles on fully-automatic. In basic training, we trained with the M14, and on one training morning, we fired it fully automatic, so that we'd have at least some familiarity with the experience. That was at the time that the army was switching to the M16, so in AIT (advanced individual training), we trained with the M16. On one morning we fired the weapon fully automatic, so that we'd have some familiarity with the weapon.
While in AIT, i avoided KP (kitchen police, police here meaning to clean, and a nasty job at the best of times) by taking small infantry weapons as the equivalent of an elective course. I learned to disassemble, clean, re-assemble and fire the M1911 .45 caliber automatic pistol, the .38 caliber revolver, the M60 light machine gun, the M1 carbine, and the M79 grenade launcher. I did it for one reason and one reason only, because it was preferable to peeling potatoes or cleaning out the grease trap.
Some of the clowns with whom i took that training course got a big hard-on at the idea of firing a machine gun. They had a similar response to the grenade launcher and the .45 caliber automatic. The M1 carbine and the .38 revolver didn't thrill them in the same way. I found their response childish--they were overjoyed at the bigger bang, and the thought of the destruction they could sew with such weapons. Our instructors reacted in pretty much the same way--they usually addressed those soldiers as girls--as in, "Be careful girls, don't hurt each other." I took it all rather seriously, precisely because i didn't intend to get injured or shot just because i wanted to skip KP. They never addressed me as "girl." They reserved that for the putz who never understood that such weapons are serious, lethal tools, and that one learns as much as possible about them so that if one does use them, one does not hurt oneself, one's companions or innocent bystanders, and uses them as effectively as possible against the enemy, because that in the long run saves the most lives, on all sides.
My personal experience is that people who get a nut from firing a machine gun are either mentally unstable, or embarrassingly immature. Our training NCOs seemed to display the same attitude. In fact, immature or mentally unstable is how i would describe everyone i've ever met with an obsessive fascination for firearms.

In the same way that comments can be irrelevant. See your response to
Steve 41oo's post, above.
Ok, then how are MY questions irrelevant?
His post was a comment on something that no one here was advocating, it was irrelevant to any previous post or the discussion at hand.
My questions are attempting to understand your reasoning to try to see things from your point of view, in an attempt to change your mind. One of the tools to do that is asking questions.
Steve 41oo wrote:Yes I would complain because it would be a silly law. Some people actually need guns. But no one needs a machine gun.......But I'm not sure firing a machine gun falls into that category. (Same with class A drugs)
When you say 'some people' who are you referring to? People located in rural areas? Suburbia? City-folk?
I'm not referring to a machine gun. You can talk about those if you like, but I would prefer to focus on the guns that are generally easier to obtain (due to price and local laws, such as handguns, rifles, shotguns). Fully automatic machine guns typically cost in the $4000-$15000 range, and that makes them pretty rare to see.

You know, i never got into strip clubs. To me, that's like going to a restaurant to look at the food, but not actually to eat it.

Me either. But you can see the similarities in personality.
My psychologist GF has some interesting theories about the phallic nature of rifles, and subdued homosexuality...

Let's hear some of those theories.

You just did. I'm sure you don't require anyone else to fill in the details.

I never got a hard on from shooting a gun. Maybe an earache.
I have gotten a hard on when I found out how much some of my older guns were worth. Boing! Cha-ching!
I find folks that post long winded diatribes on the Internet, disparaging of folks whose interests are different than their own, to be immature and potentially unstable.

That's why I keep it short and sweet. Adds to the stability.

That's not a theory, it's a hypothesis at best. Theories require supporting evidence, data, statistics, testing, etc....

It's funny, because this issue just isn't black and white. I am for some gun control, but I had a great time at the range this last weekend firing off the 30-30 and the 30-.06.

This is hilarious, coming from the guy who started an entire thread to pictures of women with guns . . .
There can be no "some gun control" in the debate. That is a stepping stone for those who want all guns banned. Look at England or Australia or even Canada and decide if those are the kind of rules you wish to live by, because if you don't choose to defend your 2A rights, you will wind up just like them. Unarmed, scared of their own shadow, and hopeful, very hopeful that the police and government will protect them at all times.

Maybe you didn't notice but there were actual women in those pictures. Perhaps I should have started a "pink pistols" thread just for you?

Sorry, I don't subscribe to your particular brand of fearmongering nor your interpretation of the 2nd amendment.
I support my right to arm myself against foreign invasion or governmental oppression; but a long rifle is what is needed for such situations, not a rambo weapon or a grenade launcher or a 5' sniper rifle.
Slipperly slopes are poor arguments, and a logical fallacy.

You don't even realize how telling this is. I find pictures of women posing with rifles to be disgusting and abhorrent, as one is an engine of life and the other an engine of death.
The fact that you equate desire of the two....

Whenever you indulge your fantasies, CJ, you just demonstrate how immature your expressed points of view are. For example, what is the significance of "pink pistol," Bubba? Are you attempting to suggest that as i don't agree with your idiotic pronouncements on guns, that i'm homosexual? Typical of your attitude . . .
