Diamond's value comes from the fact that humans place values on metals, rocks, coins/currency, antique, and almost everything else they believe has demand by others. That's Economics 101.

@cicerone imposter,
I know, CI. But that one will sit like a wallflower on the shelf. A quarter carrot from Zales will get better appreciation.

The Mentalist - about to watch a new episode. There is a recurring character going to appear tonight. I believe there is an excellent chance he could ultimately be proved to be Red John. Of course, if speculation becomes widely spread, they have time to change the scenario.

903a. I finally cracked the ebook mystery. The ones that failed had the top line dropped one space, unbeknownst to me. The converter could not read the title. When they finally explained it to me in plain English, I figured it out all by myself.
904a. Had a tough day at work yesterday. Had to wrestle a stackable washer out of a small space to lay it down and work under it, then had to do the same with a regular washer, then had to work under a cabinet in a tight space, replacing a P-trap and strainer. The old plumbing would not cooperate, so I ended up breaking it. It did not match the ones being sold around town, so I had to do some creative plumbing to make it work. After all of that, I found an old P-trap that someone had removed and then put in a basket in the storage shed. It was a perfect match.

905a. Got up earlier than I wanted to. It's chilly. Put on a space heater. Yesterday the wind was strong, all day long. It has dirtied the swimming pool so that I will run over there this afternoon and get it clean again.
906a. My wife, with her fancy new ear pieces, can hear a cricket stomp in the grass outside. She knows from the far end of the house when the coffee pot quits perking. But I have to repeat myself to her constantly.
907a. The constant ebook problems kept me from work on my book. Last night I was able to return to it. I make a big deal out of it, because it may turn out to by my only book length work, ever.
908a. J K Rowling has announced she is authoring a novel for adult readers. I am curious. (Not yellow)
909a. Been reading about a family that took a dead relative's comic book collection. They are expected to make about six million dollars off of it, because it includes such as the first Superman and Batman appearances. Brings to mind my step father telling me and Sam to get our books out of the house. "You act like they're worth a million dollars." Sam persisted. He had a comic store for a long time that handled the same books. I gave up my collections long before collecting became profitable.

910a. I might be slightly interested in the Academy Awards, if I had seen just one of the films being voted on. Or, if I recognized the names of more than two or three of the actors.
911a. I watched a bit of Santorum on Face the Nation. I can see why he is surging. If one is ready to believe his line of reasoning, he is a fairly attractive speaker. He appears more dynamic than Romney. Certainly not dumber than Bush. Just musing. I am in no way thinking Republican, this or any other foreseeable year.
912a. I am watching The Grapes of Wrath, this weekend. I can't tell you how many times I have watched Casey and the Joads journey into California, to be presented with injustice and starvation. I wish that the film makers could have included Steinbeck's overview chapters in some fashion and that they had run the story on through the last pages, instead of ending with Ma making her positive statement as they drove away to seek work.

913a. The coming week will be a bit out of the ordinary. My great grand daughter will be born, if they have to induce the labor. Several unfinished jobs from last week. New short story formulating - The last was too mediocre to comment on. New approach to some of my health issues. I did not achieve perfect health last year, as promised, but this is the year for certain.

914a. I am constantly surprised by Roald Dahl's words, even years after I first discovered him. He could be outrageous and lovely, all at the same time. - He did have one book I did not like at all: The BFG. But I overlook such things, in his case.
915a. I am this day a great grandfather. It is a little girl, of nineteen inches and six plus pounds.

919a. Vote early. Vote often. Kucinich. - dyslexia
920a. My glasses sit slightly crooked, since the screw hole stripped and I substituted a wire to hold the stem on one side. But, I can bygod see and that's all that matters.
921a. Of my ebook projects, six have been accepted. Two keep running into flaws, re title and table of contents. Don't know what makes it so hard.
922a. People call Jimmy Carter's presidency a failure, and it was, in many respects. But he had the sanest middle east policy of any president, in my view.
923a. Warm and muggy here. I hope I have a good day at work.

924a. Inmates here in Texas had been watching porn. People are upset. There are plenty of other things that ought to be more upsetting than that, but aren't.
925a. Took my magnetic 2010 calendar off of the file cabinet and slapped on a 2012. Shows how important to me they are.
926a. Today is one for tying loose ends, at work. I want a clean slate for next week.
927a. I was somewhat surprised to see the Amos and Andy show last night, on one of the smaller channels. (You know, the channels you usually surf past to get to The Mentalist). I thought that program was considered poison, these days.

928a. My coworker, who has been with me about three years, handed in his keys yesterday. He has a new teaching job.
929a. Punky the dog is starting to look too fat. Better cut back on the treats.
930a. Tried a different red wine yesterday. It apparently has high alcohol content. Did not drink that much. It just about knocked me out.
931a. The azaleas are in full bloom. Beautiful. I don't grow them, because they just bloom once or twice a year and are big. The last one I had, Punky dug it up, dragged it through the doggie door and dropped it on my sleeping wife's face.

@edgarblythe,
I need to tell you that I read your A2K 'column' daily. Many times during these conversational messages I silently nod in agreement. Today I really have to tell you that the part about his digging up the azaleas and dropping them on your wife's face made me snarf up my coffee. Now I have to figure out how to clean off my monitor.

That azalea had a great ball of mud on the roots. I was a bit surprised when my wife took it in good humor.
