The day before the day before Christmas is like one 48 hour day before Christmas.

@edgarblythe,
I'm still wrapping presents, and (dammit all) the Dr. McSnuffen vet tech station came in a thousand freeping parts. When assembled it will be about 3 ft. high, hopefully it has all the parts. It seems this plastic crap is on the Disney channel and my granddaughter is nuts about it.

I dislike plastic more all the time. I also never got used to the idea that you have to put together so much of the new stuff you buy. People tell me: It's a fun project for the weekend. No, thanks.

@edgarblythe,
I'm not sure what you're buying that requires assembly, but I haven't done that in decades.

@cicerone imposter,
I don't do it any more. I buy second hand, mostly.

Try to buy a golf cart with a lift kit. You better have a mechanic in the family

@farmerman,
I haven't played golf for several decades, and will surely not return to that sport at my age. Too many challenges. Wink

My granddaughter was given a snow globe today. A grownup had to assemble it. Then she dropped it and scattered star shaped glitter all in the carpet.

I thought I was finished buying anything that needed to be assembled, but voila, my granddaughter is 4 and a half and she watches that freeping Disney Channel selling machine. So here I am, assembling 1000 pieces of plastic into a 3' extravaganza of ugly plastic.

@glitterbag,
We don't have any grandchildren to spoil. There are some things in life one wishes to experience such as raising a daughter, having grandchildren, and travel the world. Oh, wait; I do travel.
My buddy who now lives in Mexico called me today to plan a trip to Cuba for next February or March. Love that place; the people, music, food, drinks, cigars, and ambiance are very special. Feels like the fifties.

The cars make it feel that way. Kinda cool though. Wonder how long it will take the car collectors to empty the place of all those classics? Or has the car embargo been lifted yet? Maybe the policy is 'Send your Yankee tourists with their dollars but keep those decadent capitalist pig autos the hell out.'

Great people but their politicians are even more whack than ours.

@Leadfoot,
I've always been amazed and fascinated with Cuba and Los Cubanos. There was a recent Discovery Channel TV show that's entitled 'Cuban Chrome'; or some such. http://www.discovery.com/tv-shows/cuban-chrome/

I was blown away with how these industrious, ingenious but basically broke people kept those '50s and '60s held-over antique autos on the road and working. They often times fashioned replacement parts out of tractor or boat engine parts. If they had to wait for a part or save money, they just waited and worked towards it. Forget about credit cards or immediate gratification.

They made do...and got things work even without sophisticated machine tools and/or engine hoists. I'd love to meet such a people and observe their culture, listen to their tales and music. I'd like to do so before our technology and decadent way of life pollutes theirs. All of this brings me to a similar conclusion - travel to Cuba is on my bucket list.

The Cubans are innovators in medicine, also.
