Since I put System Mechanic on my computer, all avatars have vanished from a2k, including mine. Went to my profile and tried to reload my avatar, but the avatar site does not display my images and when I try to upload new ones, it goes through the motions, but no images appear. I don't really care at this point. I am sure it's part of their "leaner meaner" machine efforts.

Sounds like somehow there was a cause-and-effect going on. Something about the file's paths was deleted or inhibited.

Your avatar is appearing now. Did you fix it? Did it fix itself?

@Ragman,
That's what I figure. To me it's not an issue. Is my avatar gone from the site or just my computer?

@edgarblythe,
not sure about what is going on in your computer but your avatar is here now. Perhaps when you reboot, it will reappear. However, the site that stores the Avatar is guiltless. They're doing their part.

@Ragman,
I'm just saying, the gravatar site does not display my images now and neither does a2k. But I am not interested in exploring that. I have wasted too much time on getting this computer to where it is now and I will live with it for the time being.

@edgarblythe,
.... and what I'm saying is for us on this end of A2K, the image is visible.

Do you see images on any other sites? If not, my guess is that your System Mechanic thing turned off the display of graphics for some reason. I don't know how to navigate you to where to check for it in Windows 8. If it were XP, I would look in your browser preference settings by going to Control Panel and clicking on the Internet Options icon.

If you do see images on other sites, I would check the System Mechanic settings regarding Security or Privacy to see if they are blocking graphics/images for specific sites such as Gravatar.

My only genuine gripe with System Mechanic, after I had it operational they had the audacity to message me that there is a new version, which I could upgrade for an additional fee. I says, What did I pay for, if not the latest version? I rejected the upgrade at first. Then it started prompting me to let them upload that new version, three or four times. This time I uploaded it and they had a button to click on to pay their fee. I clicked the X on that box and proceeded to use my computer. That was two days ago. I have been using the newest version since then and they have not bothered me about additional money.

@edgarblythe,
So is it only the avatar that is not showing? All other images, photos and avatars show where yours does not?

@Butrflynet,
No avatars show on a2k for anybody. The space for them to display on gravatar is blank.

@edgarblythe,
And this started 2 days ago when you got the pop up to download the newer version of System Mechanic?

What about other images? Are you able to see the photos in the Beautiful Animals thread for instance?

I suspect this is the problem since it seems to be blocking all images from the Gravatar site but allowing images from other sites and on other sites.

If you do see images on other sites, I would check the System Mechanic settings regarding Security or Privacy to see if they are blocking graphics/images for specific sites such as Gravatar.

So far, a2k and gravatar appear to be the only affected sites.

@edgarblythe,
Oh, I put the ghost thing on here to keep people from tracking me. Could it be -?

@edgarblythe,
Did that occur at the same time you noticed the avatars missing?

It makes sense that it would be the problem because Gravatar has to track you to know when you are at a site that uses their avatar service.

If you go into the Ghost program, there may be a way to grant permission to specific websites (Gravatar) to track you.

Wonderful execution: Ghostery notified us about dozens of trackers during our tests and let us select which to block. Images and links that we blocked immediately ceased working. We were impressed that stopping a tracker on one website blocked it for all websites.

Breaks formatting: Ghostery blocks widgets and links perfectly, but this sometimes results in websites becoming "broken" or not viewable. We had to test every blocked tracker individually to see what caused this problem, which consumes more time than necessary.

This tells me that there is a method to specify which sites to block and unblock tracking.

Bottom Line
Ghostery for Chrome provides you with high-quality service for free. You get full control over which content to block, which is a great way to protect your privacy. Disconnect, a similar application, shows how much bandwidth has been consumed or saved by using the program, and we would enjoy seeing Ghostery include an option like this in the future. If you are concerned about privacy and security, we suggest downloading Ghostery.

@Butrflynet,
That has to be it, because it was my last addition on the computer before that happened. I will try to learn how to enable gravatar.
