It may be a dreary, long, day. It rained all night and continues to pour. I have no place to be, except right here. Just me n the dog.

It will be interesting to watch the Senate for a while, now that Democrats have decided to use a little of those near atrophied muscles.

I repaired a very old lamp for a woman long time resident in the apartments yesterday. I told her I would not expect money from her. Depends on the weather if I deliver it today. The lamp had an over-sized cord on it from the last repair and the inline switch could not be turned because of it. Also, the switch had lost some connectivity, making the lights to come on, but letting them die if the cord was moved around. It was an easy fix, because the inner works were readily accesable.

My computer spent most of the day on updates. 168 of them. Due to the fact I reinstalled windows.

@Ragman,
I had other things going, but it was irritating to check back every few hours to find it still grinding away.

The weather's nasty and cold. But the bad stuff is reserved for Monday, so the wise men and women of television advise us. Winter is set to begin and already I want to throw in the towel. I wonder if the nuts and kooks in Florida could use an idiot from Texas for a spell?

Speaking of Texas, 26 of us Brits died at the Alamo helping to keep Texas an english-speaking state, otherwise all Roy Orbison's and Buddy Holly's songs would have been sung in Mexican..Wink.

When Santy Anny said "I'm taking Texas!", the Alamo defenders quoted Buddy Holly (born Lubbock, Texas, 1936) at him- "That'll be the day!"

John Wayne said "That'll be the day." Buddy Holly realized that was a line for a good song after watching the movie. The Searchers.

Trying to watch the Texans game, but it ain't easy.

A writer friend is letting me read his latest book on line, for free. I read two by him a few years back. This is a pleasant read, apparently autobiographical in nature.

Well, the game is nearly over. Guess I better go see how it ends.

I almost called in to beg off working today. No way I can do my regular job in cold rain, which is slated to go on into tomorrow morning. But, I need my hours, so they will have to put up with me. This winter is shaping up to be like the ones we had ten years ago.

At least Houston's basketball team looks good. I never watch, but I do track the scores.

Doggie's so persistent about the new squeaky toy chicken that it occurred to me to rewrite Poe's the Bells, using that toy for the object of the lines. But, there's no payoff to such an undertaking and I won't inflict it on the world.

TV - The Mentalist apparently killed the real Red John.
Brian, the dog on Family Guy, was run over and killed. He was replaced by a new pet already.

It was so rainy yesterday, I came home instead of working. Am thinking of calling in late, as the rain is still falling. My wipers are beginning to fall apart on one and not make full contact on the other. I bought new but haven't the will to put them on yet.

My step father had an uncle Jehovah's Witness. He was blind. I recall the first time we went to see him. Brother Sam looked him over and declared, "Yep, he don't got no eyes." Dewitt laughed, as did we all. He proved to be a very kind, gentle man. He never once informed us we would one day be in hell for not following the belief. We ate dinner with him a time or two. Don't know why I mention it, except to say, the JWs I have known personally were good people. I knew a black JW when I worked in Manhattan. His one flaw was trying to convert me. I mentioned that his people were taken in bondage and had the religion forced upon them. He said he had thought about that, "But, if it's the truth, it doesn't matter how we learned it." The one JW I knew that was not so savory did not join the church until near the age of thirty.

Well, they won't fight in wars, they won't salute the American flag, they say the cross is "preposterous" and prefer to believe Jesus was crucified on a pole, they think church spires are evil phallic symbols, they won't celebrate christmas easter and birthdays because they call them pagan, they let their kids die rather than have a blood transfusion, and they think that only they know what the bible is all about.
Oh, and they regularly attack me on message boards because they know i can see satans fingerprints all over them..Smile

PS- I don't care what they or any other oddball cult believe, my only beef is that they get Jesus a bad name by making people think all christians are crackpots, but they can't get under the bible's radar-
"For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." (2 Cor 11:13/14)
"If anyone preaches a perverted gospel they're accursed" (Gal 1:6-9)
"Ignorant people distort things,to their own destruction" (2 Pet 3:16/17)

Not really. A lot of people know. But, lacking faith, they seek to draw folks to their own error.
