@spendius,
I have done a thread or two about this, at least a year before the election. The problem is, the Republicans are so extreme that they push one to support a candidate that is also a wrong choice. I found myself defending Bill Clinton for the same reasons.

@edgarblythe,
Hi Edgar, We're stuck in small town on the Duoro River, and we're being bussed backed to Porto tomorrow. The owners of this cruise line are giving us a 100% credit for a future cruise, and we've already had 100% satisfaction on what they've already provided on this trip including all the port wines. Been a great experience.

None of my facebook friends plays Angry Birds Star Wars. Just myself. It goes without saying I win all the trophies. I am the king.

My wife bought a CD of The Drifters' songs. Good one. It alone of our Drifters compilations has Such a Night.

I love that spray paint machine. Before I started to paint I used it on the metal skirting on the front. Sprayed it with vinegar. It took about five minutes to wet it all. The vinegar of course causes paint to adhere to the metal.

My daughter living in Denver was to move back in a few months. The move has been postponed one year. My grandkids are getting big without me.

It took a while to sink in, but I realize my son has gone over to the dark side. He's become a rabid teabagger. It explains why he has quit staying in touch these days. I had hints here and there, but during the election, we were discussing Romney. He not just expected the man to win, he was counting on it. I told him Obama was so far ahead in the swing states there was no way he could lose. Then the boy began pushing teabagger solutions to health care and Social Security. This was all by phone. The conversation was cut short and its the last time I heard from him. Well, you can parent a child, but you can't control him. Nor should you try. He just turned forty. I voted for Reagan the first four years, before realizing the error. It's not too late for him to wise up.

@edgarblythe,
The Democratic party is a wing of the Republican party designed to make it look like democracy is working smoothly.

It doesn't take much pushing and shoving to have them "reaching across the aisle" and seeking a "bi-partisan approach."

We have been five years at grumbling and finally one of the bankers who ran HBOS into the buffers has offered to give up his knighthood and forgo "some" of his £500,000 annual pension. They say his income will be reduced by about £1000 a week. His millions in bonuses when he was in office have not been mentioned. His two sidekicks have yet to announce the state of their conscience.

Meanwhile anybody with a spare closet in their house is being fined for taking up space another person might live in.

There is a person living in the apartments that has a destructive bent. Usually the damage he causes is easily undone. We know who he is, but have no physical proof that it's him. His last action was to pry the swimming pool light fixture loose and smash the lens on the concrete deck. He apparently threw it in the water after that, because it was dangling near the bottom and the breaker was tripped and he could not get to the breaker. We found new parts to order for about a hundred and twenty dollars. He is scheduled to move in about a month and a half. As Rhett Butler observed, " I've always thought a good lashing with a buggy whip would benefit you immensely." I think that would do the guy more good than another round in police custody.

The weather has settled down. I plan to finish the painting between now and Monday. Yesterday I purchased some boards to use in the construction of the new back porch. I plan to cover the framework with screen and then, for privacy, put vented siding over the screen. There will be a few small window holes. I will paint the siding before installation, to avoid clogging the screen. I need the air flow for the times we don't want to run the A/C on warm days, but privacy is essential, as the back door left open allows one to see into the bathroom when it is not shut up. And the people in the cul de sac behind the back fence have a full view.

@edgarblythe,
Don't let that bother you too much! My political and religious beliefs are 180 degrees different from all my siblings, and that's been going on for most of my life!

It's difficult to be the first trend-setter of any family, and know how difficult it can be to remain "close" when the two major issues of our lives go separate ways.

It's been a struggle. I used to be a conservative early in my life when they believed in small government and self-sufficiency. They're no longer that party, and turned into monsters who no longer want to help other Americans over the emphasis on defense and wars.

Even universal health care that I've advocated for so long for our country is now the law of the land, but Obama hasn't done a good job in its legislation (rules and regulations to control cost).

Can't win em all!

In a song poem I wrote to him I advised him "Be your own man, Not your old man." Little did I know.

They've never been that, CI. You've had to live lie after lie after lie just to keep yourself sane, just to keep yourself thinking that your governments weren't anything but war criminals and terrorists of the first order.

Still y'all go on with these silly discussions about who will be elected and what they will do. All they do is continue to rape and pillage the poor of the world - and y'all fiddle.

Coming home, yesterday, a goose was in my lane, being all territorial and ready to fight. It absolutely refused to get out of the way, but hissed at the truck until I eased around it. There were no goose feathers there when I went by this morning. I can assume it got safely back to the flock.

It seems like over a year ago, I gave Punky the dog rawhide treats, all of which she buried. I was digging up some roses this past week and when she saw me dig, she went straight to a place near the acacias and promptly dug up one of those treats. It looked to be perfectly preserved. She carried it around a while and eventually left it on the floor. So I put it in the trash. She is the diggingest, buryingest dog I have ever known. When a grandkid wanted to play with one of her chew toys she took it away and buried it in the yard. I thought she did that to a remote I'd lost, but two years later, I found it wedged in some furniture.
