I've seen this cowardly action taken by others, Rocky. Whoda thunk that ole Rocky would take this route.

Interesting that you bring that up, CI.

John Pilger answers Obama's claim that US military is "finest fighting force in history"

Quote:
Announcing the Iraq war was ended, Barack Obama told US troops on 14 December 2011, "The United States military is the finest fighting force in the history of the world." What he didn't say is that since 1945 the US military has been directly responsible for the deaths of over 10 million people and that America has in that time overthrown 50 governments, including democracies, and intervened in at least 30 more. John Pilger has something to say about that.

I don't think that you'll find it at all boring, CI. Either you'll suck up the propaganda and continue on your merry way [no pun intended with "Merry way"] or you'll find the truth so distressing that you'll deem John Pilger's comments "a bore" and then continue on your Merry way.

Wouldn't it be the uncowardly route to describe the ones that you have a problem with and discuss them, Rocky?

But consider, that just might require some thought.

@Rockhead,
"Sometimes, people who are faced with such conflicts can adjust their beliefs and allegiances to accord with reality. But others respond with denial, willful misunderstanding, and conspiracy theories."

Or threats of 'ignore'; "you're a troll"; "the thread is about"; "YouTube videos that illustrate the quote above".

I'm sure there are others.

Wait!

Hmm, Edgar, I was going to say something, but somehow, I've lost the appetite to post after the previous nonsense. Mad

I hardly make the trip to A2K anymore for exactly this type of behaviour.

Say what you will about Facebook, I've not seen it there.

1308a. Ah, the air, crisp as a baseball bat, and I get to drive beneath the Harvest Moon, this morning. Do life gets more gooder? (A little sleep in, perhaps?)
1309a. I saw the neatest puppy in the news this morning. Police were investigating a different matter, when they heard it whimpering. They discovered that it had been buried alive, yet it somehow survived under the dirt. I was smiling, because that dog will now live a long, well cared for, life.
1310a. I ran a new phone line to my router yester-evening. That seems to have improved the reception. It may be too soon to declare victory.

1311a. Oh, yes. Watched the new episode of The Mentalist. I liked that one. Of course, the woman who was a link to Red John had to disappear before she could talk. But that was a given from last season.

So, you're not switching to cable now?

Yeah, I saw that one. It was "okay", in my opinion, but it was predictable that that woman was going to escape.

What made the story was the other one they had running concurrently, the one about the lottery ticket.

1312a. Still baffled by the use of swords and arrows in the NBC show about revolution. It appears to take place in the USA, a country where guns outnumber insects and germs and bullets outnumber guns a thousand times at least.
1313a. Bought Bob Dylan's album "Tempest." Unlistenable.
1314a. The new TV show about Partners failed to connect when I watched a bit. I may take a second look but won't go out of the way.
1315a. Two and a half Men show has made John Cryer's character more pathetic and useless than before. Disgusting even.
1316a. Since I started having three or more tablespoons of coconut oil on a daily basis, my stomach size has shrunk considerably. It was a large stomach to begin and I overeat most days.
1317a. I am busy getting coached so I can watch the presidential debate. Campaigns are won or lost for the dumbest of reasons, often.

I pulled a coupla things off a service and stuck it in tunes. I was shocked at how silly his stuff is getting and how his voice is more like a weed whacker everyday. He should rest on his stuff of the 60's and early 70's and fuckin quit.

@farmerman,
I told my wife he ought to get two or three singers for his records instead of going it alone. Quitting would be an option also.

I did the same with Springsteens "Wrecking BAll" it too is kinda silly and resolves itself by incessant primal beats. Springsteen usedto be called "our chronicler". Of late however, hes just hollering at passing traffic like an old squeegee man

@farmerman,
Quote:
Bob Dylan's impressive 35th studio album, "Tempest," arrives in the 50th year of his recording career. Rootsy and stylistically broad, Dylan reaches back to the styles that inspired him early on -- American and British folk music, story songs filled with history and tragedy, the blues and 1950s rock 'n' roll. "Tempest" (Sept. 11) is full of songs about families, societies and relationships crumbling, the glimmer of hope that the new day will bring about change and, in the end, a tribute to John Lennon.

The grandfatherly growl in his voice has deepened, his writerly abilities sharp in their intensity as he tackles, more than any other subject, mortality. Fans of the wordplay and stories on his acoustic gem "John Wesley Harding" may well find "Tempest" in league with that album. He has crafted a centerpiece track in "Tempest" about the sinking of the Titanic in which he assumes the combination role of town crier and poet laureate.

The 10 songs here suggest that Dylan is not all that keen on times and things changin'. The songwriting has nods to Woody Guthrie, murder ballads, Muddy Waters, Jimmie Rodgers and the English ballad tradition; the production - handled by his alias Jack Frost - has the airiness of a jazz or folk record from the early 1960s.

It's outside your range fm. You shouldn't crab things for such a silly reason. Why don't you fuckin quit? How many records have you sold?

If anybody talks bad about Bob to you then you're listening to a fool.

@farmerman,
Nodding. Understand that I've been a BUYING and concert attending fan of Dylan's from about 1963 onwards. After his last near-death lung ailment virus circa 1998, things have been pretty shaky. I did enjoy and bought Love and Theft.

However, IMHO, this recent work is just unlistenable. Singer-stylists with character in their voice (as opposed to beautiful voices) like Joe Cocker are still far more musical and enjoyable at this point. Dylan has simply lost/damaged his voice or he's not interested in how it sounds.

For comparison, Leonard Cohen often times collaborated or had someone who was a stellar singer (and suited to his lyrics and style ... like Jennifer Warnes on Fabulous Blue Raincoat) sing his work. Why not Dylan?

@cicerone imposter,
He laughs his way (in the USA) all the way to the bank.

As for Dylan, I never believe any of his quotes 'cause he directs you to his interest in misleading everyone:

"I stopped smoking. When I stopped smoking, my voice changed... so drastically, I couldn't believe it myself."
Bob Dylan

"I realize I don't do a very good job in keeping up to date, but I try to.
Bob Dylan

"Nothing can affect my voice, it's so bad."
