I know the one you mean.
We thought it was so bad that we didn't even watch the whole first show.
I think it is inconceivable that Dylan would title an album Tempest without it being a reference to Shakespeare. I remembered an essay by A.L. Rowse in a collection called
Essays In American Colonial History where such a connection was suggested. It was a short essay and thus easy to find.
Quote:In literature, before Shakespeare died, the impact of America upon the English imagination is already rich and evident, in Spenser and Drayton, in Raleigh and Chapman and Donne, never more beautifully than in The Tempest.
The Island being America.
Dylan is steeped in that stuff.
Quote:I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea,
Sometimes I turn, there's someone there, other times it's only me.
I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.
Incidentally, rumour had it at the time that he sprained his vocal chords on a phrase in Every Grain of Sand during an early '80s concert in Italy. Milan I think. If you listen to some performances of that song prior to that concert you might well see why.
We are experiencing Indian Summer.

@spendius,
The lyrics to the song titled Tempest is far from Shakespearean. I love Dylan, which is why I prefer him to hang it up while still a winner.
@cicerone imposter,
Your temperatures are very much like ours, these days.
@edgarblythe,
Thankfully, not for the whole year!
@edgarblythe,
You don't love Dylan ed. You're using him.
I think he is the greatest poet ever. Past, present and future. I can't imagine any possibility of anybody ever doing better. He's so far ahead of anybody else that there is nobody else.
@spendius,
I would be willing to bet that Will Shakespeare wrote drivel which he then destroyed, a few times in his lifetime. Nobody is above reproach. Even Dylan says so.

That's the same as talking to you"

@cicerone imposter,
Springsteen in his prime was voice that sang of our troubles. His theme song to "philadelphia" was tragic poetry about the AIDS situation in the East Coast Cities where tolerance wasnt an option.
1318a. I searched for the Ted Cruz versus the practically invisible Democrat last night, just after 8 PM, but failed to find it on free TV. Don't know if I picked the wrong time or if it simply was not on. Viewing highlights this morning, they were each trying to out talk the other and I understood not a word from either candidate.
1319a. Today would be my brother Roger's 72ND birthday.
1320a. Reading a few pages a day from Catcher. So far, no spark.
1321a. The leaky bathroom, which I wrote about the other day, finally got fixed. It was the tub overflow. Back when the issue became relatively major, the lead man fixed the overflow three different times. Then we had no complaints for a couple of years. This time around, we did splash water in the overflow, with no noticeable result and the resident claimed he never filled the tub, so I felt the overflow was okay. The came the plumber. Anyway, it is fixed.
1322a. Watched the debate last night. Romney gave the perception of winning, yet pushed ideas unsustainable. If he won, I prefer the loser.
1323a. Going to be painting off a ladder today. I coated some new siding so hurriedly, a while back, that gaps in the paint are visible. I plan to be more deliberate this time.
1324a. Punky the dog climbed up on my lap last night. She has not been doing that much lately. I let her out to the area where we park, yesterday, so she could roll around in the gravel as she soaked up the sun. I saw in the news that pet owners are blaming Waggin Train snacks for their pets' illness or death. Yet, the government cannot ban this product, for lack of evidence. It has to be that most of the packages are not contaminated, but occasional ones are. At any rate, I avoid that brand altogether.
1325a. Don't think because its Friday the week's over. Its only Friday AM.
1326a. Some are pushing the notion that Obama held himself back to avoid public perception of an "angry black man," which stokes fear and racism among many who otherwise do not get upset by race, that much. I don't have an immediate opinion of that, except to say, I prefer a president to appear courageous, regardless of such a consideration.
1327a. I have dozens of cassette tapes and no player. Why I don't get rid of them I have no notion.
1328a. I did not paint yesterday, because I discovered bad siding to replace, near a stairway. Fixed it and now I am ready.
1329a. I replaced the phone cord and my internet improved considerably. Still have not decided what to do, re my service.

Bad connectors on the line?
@Reyn,
I suppose the connectors were faulty. They can look just fine and still not be optimal. Which is why I had a hunch to change it.
1330a. I have my mail in ballot. After conferring with PDiddie, I have gone Green with some of my choices. He suggested I vote Green for President, and I agree with his reasoning, but I feel that stopping Teaparty progress is the most important consideration. Going with Collins for Senate, Chisolm for Texas Supreme Court and Kennedy for Railroad Commission. I have to affix 60 cents postage. Hey, I'm old and want to live for free off the government. Why do I have to pay postage?
@edgarblythe,
That's my position; stop the Tea Party. The only way to accomplish that is to vote for anyone not a Tea Party or Republican candidate running for office. They've become the "No Party," and they're handicapping our government in every way possible.
This must stop!
@cicerone imposter,
This is the reason why I posted the above.
Quote:Obama Calls on Congress to Act on Tax Cut, Housing
ABC OTUS News – 7 hrs ago
President Barack Obama says a new report showing that the unemployment rate has dropped below 8 percent is a sign the still-sluggish economy is moving forward. But Obama says more needs to be done.
He called on Republicans in Congress to work with Democrats on a plan to cut taxes for 98 percent of Americans and on another bill to help families refinance their homes at lower interest rates. Obama also said Congress should approve his plan for a veterans jobs corps to help former members of the military find work as police officers, firefighters and park rangers.
Obama is blaming congressional Republicans for not passing the legislation.
When home-owners can refinance at lower interest rates, they can spend money in the marketplace to increase consumption - the key to economic growth and job creation.
The republicans have been playing politics over the interest of our country, and they need to be removed from our government - at all levels.
A by mail ad I received on Friday was touting another colon cleanse product. It proclaimed, in bold headlines, to the effect that one should have no further need of toilet paper, once one's colon is clean and the system is functioning properly. Are there any volunteers out there? It is not too late to retrieve the ad from the garbage.
I finally have managed to order my own colloidal silver maker. It is by the same company that provided my friend's maker so it ought to produce a good product. I still have my old one and it makes a product that works, somewhat, but it produced what some call 'mud.' because the silver is large enough and heavy enough to settle at the bottom. The smaller the particle, the more effective the end result.
My wife is on a mission to find a Matchbox series red truck by Monday. A little friend of hers at the daycare wants one very badly.
Lawnmower has gotten so poorly that I will buy a new one when I get my gubmint check. Do that means I should be obliged to get a drug test before I can buy that non essential item?
The moringas are undergoing their first (semi) cold weather test. They prefer it be at least 70 degrees and the high today will be mid sixties. Way I see it, if they can't take our mild winters I will do without them.
I am of a mind to do a project I should have begun two months ago. Make a life-size Headless Horseman to stand in the yard. I have only partially thought through this, so it may not become a reality before next October. Making the rider will not be that difficult. It is the horse that will be a challenge. The legs can be perhaps PVC pipes. The head and body will take some thinking. I had considered taking a bag, devising a way to form a body shape, and filling it with expanding foam. But getting a horse sized bag may be out of the question. Some of you reading this may be able to suggest a better approach?
The Mentalist took a trip last night. Thinking he was fixing an ordinary cup of tea, he ingested a drug, which made him chase a rabbit, much like Alice, through a door and into a garden. The garden would have fit very well into Lewis Carroll's novel. There, he met a girl, who proved to be his murdered daughter, not Alice. At show's end he wanted so badly to re-conjure the illusion he was sipping more of the tea. I was near to tears a few times.
barrythemod was nice enough to clean up a facebook photo for me last night. I don't know that he ever reads this thread, but, thanks, barry.
Got to broadcast rye grass seeds at the apartments this week. I picked up five fifty pound bags yesterday.
