I tend to agree GW.....at least with the disliking Howard Stern part

and I think also with the rest of your point. Sanjaya is obviously popular with the other contestants and that says he probably is the sweet, gentle soul he appears to be. But, as Simon would say, I sure wish he could sing and sell a song better.
The fallacy in all this is that if it was a true talent competition, the results wouldn't be determined by who has the most home town support or by a vulgar talk show host goading his audience into goofing around with the AI results. We can't blame all that on Howard though. They are the ones who are calling or text messaging in the vote.
In truth, however, the best of the best usually don't get voted off in the early rounds, and each week with a smaller pool to vote for, it becomes increasingly more difficult for large voting blocks to determine the outcome. Who doesn't think Kelly Clarkson was the best choice in Season 1? Or Carrie Underwood in Season 4? Many of us were disappointed by the winners in other seasons, but the truly talented got enough exposure to go on and land their own recording contracts.
But I agree with you. There is no need to intentionally hurt people who haven't done anything bad to anybody.
