Changed my mind......can I cook?
Hmmm. JRR Tolkien, Ayn Rand, AL Kroeber, Peter Jackson (I'd like to see him and Tolkien talk), Karl Marx (ditto, with Rand), Thomas Jefferson, Immanual Kant, Jesus, Roger Waters, and Stephen Sondheim.
So, I wonder if you would mind telling me about Mr. Kroeber and Mr. Jackson? Not that my approval for your table is necessary, in fact quite the opposite --- just curious about who they are and what they would say over the salad, not to mention over the main course......................
duck, de duck, duck............
Peter Jackson directed the LOTR movies. There is a lot of controvery over his interpretation of the books and the characters.
AL Kroeber was a Boasian anthropologist whose ideas I like more than most. He said that cultures or cultural elements were sort of like ripples that spread out from many different points (my words, not his) that all intersected with each other to make full cultures that were varied and chaotic rather than cohesive and functional.
I knew who Jackson was, but who's Roger Waters?
The lead singer of Pink Floyd.
Rufio, Mind telling us why you chose each of your guests?
ooh I like this topic
John Lennon
mum
dad
bf
jesus
grandma (she wouldn't forgive me if i didn't introduce her to jesus lol)
franco
grandpa (im sure he's always wanted to meet franco)
fat mike
tony sly
I think everyone would be happy with that combination...after dinner id get tony and mike drunk and make them realise they should start a band with my bf
Hi Andrea, I'm so mesmerized by the spinning green thing in your avatar that I almost forgot to write a response. Certainly members of your family require no explanation. Nor do Jesus and John Lennon. I've heard of them both. I'm a bit mystified about Franco, fat mike, and tony sly. Who are they? I surmise that mike and tony are musicians. Should I know who they are? Is my age showing?
Oh, I didn't check back here. Ok, let me see.
JRR Tolkein because of his books, his religion (that he created in Middle-Earth), and also in order to settle a few discrepencies about World War II and Orcs once and for all, and to fill in some of the gaps in our knowledge of Quenya and Sindarin that unfortunately died with him.
Ayn Rand for her philosophy. There is no one I would more love to have a good debate with.
AL Kroeber I talked about above. He might also help me write my anthro paper that's supposed to be about him to - that would be a big help.
Peter Jackson, because I want to know how he'd explain to Tolkien what he did to Faramir in the Two Towers. Maybe Tolkien would convince him to rewrite it.
Karl Marx, because interestingly enough, I think his philosophy and Rand's are quite similar. I'd like to see them debate, too.
Thomas Jefferson, in order to find out just what he thinks of the Patriot Act.
Immanuel Kant, to better explain his philosophy. It's really interesting, but a little hard to understand. And maybe he could explain the Mideval German to me, just for linguistic purposes.
Jesus, just to find out how much of what everyone says about his was actually true.
Roger Waters, and, if possible, the whole band, because I really would have wanted to see The Wall live (and not by some cover band either).
Stephen Sondheim because I like his musicals, and well, that's really about it.

franco is the general that won the spanish civil war in 1939 ad had Spain under a dictatorship from that day until his death in 1975. I'm really interested in the war and the dictatorship, I think it's an interesting topic to read about and so does my grandpa.
Fat Mike and Tony Sly are musicians and don't worry your age isn't showing (how old are you?) i know lots of people my age that have never heard of them
Rufio, Thanks for adding your reasons. They help provide a sense of a person. What your thinking is on certain things. I'm fascinated that you would like to debate Ayn Rand.
Andrea, Oh, THAT Franco. Hmmm. You and your grandpa are interested in the Spanish Civil War. Not the most common of interests. It was an interesting time. Many Americans were sympathetic to Franco's cause and went to Spain to fight. But, of course, you know this. Okay, I won't feel bad about not knowing who fat mike and tony sly are. The only sly I know of is from Sly and the Family Stone. A group from the sixties/seventies.
Mac11
PDiddle
Mrs. PDiddle
BillW
Mrs. Billw
Lola
They are the best dinner partner's ever.
Joanne, It sounds like this is no fantasy. I'm glad you enjoyed.
Yes it was great, better than my fantasy.

but but but Franco was helped by the Germans and the Italians!
I think that Roberta meant that many Americans were sympathetic to the Republican cause and went to fight Franco and his Falangists. All the International brigades, including the Lincoln Brigade of volunteer Americans, were anti-Franco. In all fairness, there was a small number of American right-wingers who went to support Franco but they were a definite minority.
aha that's what I thought
Ooops, looks like I got my history mixed up. But I coulda sworn that... Never mind.
I'm sure of this much. Generalissimo Franciso Franco is still dead. (From very early Saturday Night Live)
