Letty, I don't think that Hemingway or Donne is on anyone's list. Are you including them on yours?

I apologize, Roberta. Yes, I would liked to have known Papa Hemingway and the man from whom he titled his book, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS.
I snuck that in because of the historical background to which you were referring in the Spanish Civil War. As for Donne, I love the last stanza of his poem that begins with ".....no man is an island."

I would want to have two parties, but since your question only allows one, here is my list.

Name Reason invited

Joseph Bouchillon Born in France: Fought in American Revolution
Jean Bouchillon Born in US : Same reason
Andre Guillebeau Born in France: Same reason
John Hendrix Born in US : Same reason
Johannes Shultz Born in Germany: Same reason
Christian Shultz Born in Us : Same reason
John Wiley Shultz Born in US : Fought in War of 1812
Anthony Storey, Sr. Born in US : Fought in American Revolution
Anthony Storey, Jr. Born in US : Fought in War of 1812

These are my direct ancestors. One of my lines arrived 6 years before the Mayflower. When people brag about their ancestors arriving on the Mayflower, I just tell them that I was not lucky enough to have ancestors on that Ship, but they were there to greet the ship when it arrived.

Hi Texan and welcome. WOW, that's in impressive bunch of ancestors you've got there. And an impressive link to US history. I don't blame you for wanting to have dinner with that group.

BTW, by all means, have a second guest list. Those of us who've been on this thread from its inception have had more than one list. I've had four or five. So go ahead. I'll be interested to see it.

1. --William Shakespeare... wow just to be in his presence would knock me over, that guy is such a genius.
2. --His Holiness the Dala Llama... the current one, just because I respect him so much and he seems like such an incredible person, I would love to pick his brain!
3. --Bhudda, this guy is so deep and so out of control. He did some really cool things and started an awesome religion, I would love to learn from him.
4. --Jesus, the Son of my Creator, having dinner with him would be super great. I could ask tons of questions about the Bible and get advice and understand things better and be reassured in past deiscions oh it'd be heaven sent!
5. --Emily Dickinson, well, I don't understand any of her poetry but everyone else seems to, so I would ask her what some of it is about lol.
6. --the Watchousky brothers, creators of the Matrix trilogy. Man, just to discuss all that with them would be the sweetest thing.
7. --Bono, so I could see how I could help with the AIDs problems, and try to understand how he stays so cool and so noble throughout everything.
8. --J. K. Rowling, she wrote Harry Potter, no more explanation needed.
9. --Davey Havock, since he is the most beautful person in the world... I would discuss make up with him. And I'm dying to know where he gets his eyeliner.
10. --My mom. Because I know how happy she would be to meet Bono, so that'd be fun just to see them talking!

tigerclaw, Hi and welcome. Care to tell us why you've chosen whom you've chosen? Granted, some are fairly self-explanatory. But it would be nice to hear your thoughts.

Innie, Thanks for your list. An interesting and diverse group. I have one question: Who is Davey Havock? Should I know? I don't. I'm so out of it, I'm almost in.

Hmmm, I have a friend who was in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade... well, actually, he died about ten years ago. We never talked about that much, because when I saw him the talk was all about psychology and literature and food...

Maybe I'll have him and Andrea to my next a2k dinner party.

Who is Dr. Kay Redfield-Johnson, Husk? And why, pray, would you like to have this somewhat diverse group at one table?

Dr. Kay Redfield-Johnson - Lola type personality - in real life. Oh I like diversity and I think this dinner would require many courses in order to stretch the conversations way into the wee hours - to get the most bang for the buck.

Katya, I'm glad you like this thread. I like it too. You've said why you would invite the folks on your list. But I'm not sure I know who all of them are. For example, who are Shakti Gawain and Thomas Szasz?

Husker, Was "Jesus" an exclamation? Or would you want to invite him to dinner? Also, who is John Muir? Also, why would you want this particular group of people?

Wow, this is a very good question: it is very hard for me to decide, though.

1) Sylvia Plath: I'd like to hear her voice, without Ted Hughes' interference, and ask her about the world as she sees it.

2) John Webster It would be interesting to meet the playwright who killed off all of his major characters, but still made a meaningful, enjoyable play.

3) My great-grandmother: I could see her again, if it were only for one night, and find out what the afterlife is like.

4) Jean D'Arc: There's so much myth surrounding her; I'd like to find out what she really is.

5) Oscar Wilde To get the party started; wit and charisma in one package.

6) Lenin A great idealist. I'd like to see what he thinks of the world today, whether he is quixotic, what he thinks of his successor, and I think that he would be good fun, for some reason, too.

7) Borges: Latin America fascinates me. Perhaps he could clarify things, tell me tales, etc.

8) Adolf Hitler I don't like the man- I don't think that anyone does- but it would be interesting to get into his head, to see whether he regrets what he did, etc.

9) Either Socrates or Freud: I'd sit back, amazed.

10) Emily Brontë: I'd just like to talk to her, and perhaps find out whether she really did live a sheltered life. I think that she'd make an interesting companion.
