I think the most lovely spot I saw for dining was in the movie My House in Umbria.

Set in Italy, they ate outside on a veranda or loggia. At night, she had those lovely 'japanese lanterns'...the breeze....the view...

Lovely. A similar location for dreamy dining-- The birthday party in the movie Chocolat.

I think that is where I'll invite my lovely ten (or ten thousand) children for dinner.

Sofia, I've never eaten cat before, but I have eaten...turkey. Ten thousand children is quite the accomplishment! Grats! I believe that classifies as a brood. Haven't seen My House in Umbria, but Chocolat was very cool. Is 'Umbria' worth the watch? I have heard mixed things about it.

Because I am a benighted italy fanatic, I have kept up, until just recently, with everybody's house in. I am personally more interested in italians' homes of whatever size in their own place. Still, I tend to check this stuff out. Don't remember 'my house in Umbria'. But certainly the locale would do for a visit. (smile).

I hate to see Tuscany and Umbria become large bed and breakfast associations. That is what it seems from reading about it now. But I am guessing real life goes on under all the press on these fine provinces.

(Sorry, short digression, grrrrr.)

let us say that some of our dinner parties happen there, or at least mine.

Well...My House in Umbria... A slow character study, but quirky. Maggie Smith invites train wreck victims to her house... It was worth a lazy weekday afternoon to me.

Pretty sites shown.

Hmmm, A site for the dinner party. I have several possibilities. A large schooner sailing out on the ocean far from shore. The Bronx Zoo. Maybe a hotel high in the mountains of Norway. I must ponder further.

Chocolat was an awesome movie. I've seen it several times and will probably see it several more. Loved the dinner party for sure ;-)

Osso, There's no deadline. Fine-tune your guest list to your heart's content. Didn't mean to apply pressure. I'm a bit overeager for your list to be completed so that I can noodge you about the reasons you've made the choices you've made. I'm waiting to hear about Marcus Aurelius, among others.

Diane, Thanks for putting in a good word for me with BBB. Her guest list is fascinating. I wouldn't mind sitting at that table.

Diane is so smart!

BumbleBeeBoogie, I would love to attend your party!! The group couldn't be more interesting or diverse. And with you as the hostess, the success is guaranteed. Actually, I think you would also like for Roberta to be there. Both of you are smart, tough ladies with exceptionally intelligent minds and the ability to hold your own in any conversation. Not too sweet, but just the right mixture of smarts and good manners.

Now everyone knows why I included Diane in my list of great dinner guests. She is smart enough to get her dinner table seat moved to my right, the seat of honor at my table.

Now don't be surprised if those rascals Dyslexia, Fbaezer, Blatham and Asherman compete for that honored chair.

Roberta is a new A2K personality to me. But upon Diane's recommendation I will have to check her out. Good networking, Diane.

Cav, the rest of our guests (including Lil Kim) will be dining at Kara's wee cottage in Ireland (as she tells it) ... not to worry, it's actually quite large, overlooking an incredible view down to the sea ... will that be sufficient motivation for you to be our very best chef ever?

I am everyone's best chef ever...that's my job Wink Ireland on the coast sounds quite nice indeed. I was thinking, that actress who played Faith on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (series), and the girlfriend in the movie The New Guy....I don't think she would be much of a conversationalist....but she's also hot. For 10 people, I will need at least two scullery maids.

Oh, goodness, now I feel bad...you're quite right, that is your job, huh? "everyone's best chef ever" Well, so as not to use you in that way as all the others apparently do, you will become Lil Kim's dinner partner, that way we will keep the guest list @ 10 and "everyone" will be happy. Okay? (besides, if we're still hungry, don't forget we are having BBQ @ Joe Nation's 1969 party directly afterwards!)

No need to feel bad...you can't cook professionally unless you love it to death. I don't mind cooking as long as I have my two hot scullery maids.

Gotcha, Boss (credit to Setanta!), but I want this to be your night as well, w/o responsibilities but w/the right to party ... all night long with your one, got it: one!, partner, Lil Kim - check out page 11 and, if you can't make it, do let me know so I can substitute someone else

Hmm...think I still need two dates, umm, 'assistants'....and don't worry about my party, you would be amazed at the 'behind the scenes' kitchen stories out there...Anthony Bourdain's book "Kitchen Confidential" comes to mind, and I could tell a few myself... Very Happy

alright, Cav, the fantasy is 10, count them: 10, party of 10 as chosen by moi; therefore, either you be satisfied with Lil Kim (who, in order to keep up with your demands had been invited only at your lust, I mean, request), or you're both out! Choose your poison ...
