Eva, BBB is pulling your leg just a little. LOL

Dys was wearing black sneakers and jeans!! Laughing He actually has an old injury that sometimes acts up, requiring shoes with more support than the leggings provide.

Besides being a terrible tease, BBB is a wonderful cook. We were wined and dined with gracious charm; with delicious food, coutesy of BBB--and incredible wine, coutesy of Asherman and Natalie.

Watching fireworks on the deck after dinner, made it a memorable evening. I love a2kers.

Pish on Diane
Oh pish on Diane for undoing my attempt to give Dyslexia a sophisticated, suave mystique about him that would make him a sex symbol to women, dogs and parrots.

As for Diane's description of the dinner I prepared for their visit, what she didn't tell you is that I decided to do it at the last minute and prepared what I had on hand in my freezer-refrigerator and pantry. They just lucked out that I didn't feed them a can of beans.

Well, I am back from D.C., and happy to hear that my illusions about Dyslexia are intact. Smile

Urs thank you for your concern. That movie was based on a real event here in Cali where an American business employee was kidnapped I think in the late eighties. A great account of the incident (and the basis for the movie) was published in Vanity Fair magazine a few years ago.
I'm in the mood now to make an exploratory trip to Ecuador to look into living conditions. My concern though is I hear all prices are doubled for gringos.

2003-10-22: A full page advertisement of a special super market in my newspaper in the morning offers a notebook with top equipment and low price and I know this is my day. No morning walk along our small river watching birds. Morning walk to my bank. 3 great bills that I held in my hand never before. Subway to the next chain store. My first notebook. PC No. 4 since 1990. At home again automatical configuration with orchestra. Later at my public library. Having lunch in the cafeteria with a friend from Ecuador. My Internet working place. A mail from my niece who cancels her visit. Mail to a local artist I met yesterday, with corrected text of her work list, exhibition list etc. for an biographical article in a great encyclopedia. Mail to the editors of this encyclopedia for I found a biography from 1778 about a till now very unknown or forgotten artist. Surfing wwar.com, abuzz.com, a2k.com. Outside the sun conquers a misty day. No cranes on heaven this time. Last week I saw about 800/1000 within half an hour on their way to the Spanish Extremadura. Have to go home soon for the „translation“ of an original travel diary from 1833 hand written by the wife of a famous geographer. Hard work to read.

Mistral, beautiful post. Welcome to a2k. Where do you live and where is the Spanish Extremadura?

Your work sounds fascinating. I have a friend who translates historic letters for a library in Connecticut. Even though they are in English, the handwriting, old idiomatic words and some of the old abbreviations make it slow going.

Dear Diary,
I'm going to the wedding of a friend's daughter in Virginia. This is a dear friend whom I haven't seen in several months, so I'm looking forward to it tremendously.

Her daughter is absolutely gorgeous--in fact, she has three stunningly beautiful daughters, so this should be a smashing wedding.

I also look forward to driving around the countryside, visiting old Civil War sites and just enjoying the scenery.

Pitter, I am looking forward to reading about Ecuador!

Husker, good thinking there...

Dear Diary,

Stefan and I are enjoying our free days. Yesterday, Stefan's sister Eva and her boyfriend Jocke arrived from Sweden. It is very nice to have them here. Eva's last visit was three years ago.

Unfortunately, the weather is not very good, it's even snowing a bit. So instead of going to the castle this afternoon we just stayed at home and relaxed. Not bad either! Tomorrow is Eva's 30th birthday so we will go out for a nice dinner. But before that we will visit my sister since they have not met yet.

The only downside is that poor Nisse is hiding behind the sofa and only comes out at night. The poor thing! So scared of strange men... Well, somehow I can understand him.

Mysan enjoys the company. But from time to time she joins Nisse under the sofa... Good girl!

Diane and husker, yes it is Spain. I have not seen it, but in my head is a picture of yellow grass, grey oaks, black cattle and blue sky. And the cranes in the wintertime. I live on the crane's line of flight between Sweden and there.

Dear Diary,

Things are getting better. For real this time.

I have a great new job, managing a small restaurant. We do some eat-in lunching and dining, and a whole lot of gourmet take-out and catering. It's a great little place, with good food, a lot of great organic ingredients, a wonderful staff, and the same owners (and hence the same bread and pastries) as Sweetish Hill Bakery. My place is called Portabla. Come visit some time!

I still work part-time at Victoria's Secret, one day a week.

That leaves me one day a week all for me. And Brian. Things are getting better between us, slowly but surely. We're getting along these days.

And things are getting better for Brian's grandmother, who has been in the hospital for several weeks. She was hospitalized for subdural hematoma (blood clots in the brain) and had neurosurgery to drain it a few weeks ago. We've been down to visit every free day since she was admitted.

She's talking a little now. Sitting up, opening her eyes, trying to communicate. Her speech is not clear, but she lets us know that she's pretty conscious, some of the time. She's awake for at least a few minutes a day now, which is more than before. And any improvement is a big improvement.

Things are exhausting, but I'm doing better. We're doing better.
